Kansas City ProgramsThe HALO Learning Center celebrated its6-year anniversary, and The HALO KCHome pilot program celebrated its 1-yearanniversary.Served 701 children in Learning Centerprograms, making the total 3,006 youthserved since opening.HALO Center Staff trained 20 communitymembers and volunteers in TraumaInformed Care practices to better servethe children at HALO, also doubled as arevenue builder for the domestic program.Learning Center hosted a total of 178workshops, with the help of 110 volunteersto provide quality vocational, professionaldevelopment, art and life-skill buildingprograms. 2,579 volunteer hours!Began partnership with Fairfax LearningCenter, an alternative high school. HALObecomes ½ of a Fine Arts credit for theseteens, allowing them to step away from theonline learning within Fairfax, and use theirhands to create and practice life skills.Two HALO Center youth awarded theKansas City Security AssociationEducation Fund Scholarship for theirparticipation in The HALO LearningCenter. They were awarded 18k towardtheir pursuit of a 4-year degree.Restructured the ProfessionalDevelopment course to provide largestimpact in a shorter time commitment forhigh-transition youth, bringing in newprofessionals to teach teens importanttopics such as resume building, interviewskills, and workplace etiquette.Many teens secured jobs after theinterview skills class.Incorporated art into iEmpathizeProgram, serving 75 children in thisimportant program. Also instructedwithin a weekly group through a localshelter, for all at-risk children in theKansas City area, reaching 20 unaffiliated children through this oneprogram.HALO Program Staff trained in SuicideRisk and Assessment Prevention.11

Celebrated 1 year HALO KC Housing pilotprogram, designed to house two teens at atime, taking teens out of crisis mode, andgiving them tools to focus on long-term goalsand learn how to live independently.Brought on new Residential Supervisor toassist in this program. Served 6 parentingand non-parenting youth in the first full year.Secured financial volunteer, Nicole Russell, tomeet with housing youth monthly on theirfinances, helping them set and stick to asavings goal during their time in theprogram.Restructured Explore opportunities, makingavailable 20 different opportunities forchildren to learn and engage in differentcareer paths that are available for them.Implemented new survey and trackingsystem to better follow the needs, goals, andnumbers of our children. Began utilizing anew youth tracking software.Hosted 1st Annual Back to School Bash withPaul Mitchell the School in Overland Park.Distributed over 50 Power Packs to youth inneed, providing them with a backpack full ofhygiene essentials.Hosted Annual HALO Youth SummerShowcase. A new event showcasing thetalents and performances of KC youth. Opento the general public, raising 1,500.Hosted 2nd Annual HALO Thanksgivingthanks to the Schrader Family, bringingtogether 7 youth for a warm, family meal.12

Jefferson City ProgramsThe HALO Jefferson City Home launchesJanuary 2017, providing the only housingprogram for teens in Jefferson City,serving up to 48 children.In 2016, HALO JC provided safe housingfor 3 teen girls and 2 babies.Two of the teen mothers in the HALO TLPgraduated high school and successfullytransitioned out of the TLP.Established a volunteer-led weekly LifeSkills Curriculum for the TLP.Nearly doubled the number of internsworking on the JC Staff from localUniversities (5 in 2015, 9 in 2016).Developed a relationship with the SocialWork Departments at Lincoln Universityand University of Missouri-Columbia forBSW student practicum placement.Therapeutic Art Programs continue tobecome refined and established at theJefferson City Academic Center, JeffersonCity High School, and the Rape and AbuseCrisis Services. Began new programworking with the Middle School students atJCAC in 2016.Greatly expanded opportunities forcommunity outreach through talks,meetings, and presentations in thecommunity.HALO helps childrencolor their dreams.13
