General OverviewESIC is an academic institution that iscommitted to its mission and values.The development of ethical values andcorporate social responsibility is carriedout by a unique Social ResponsibilityProject that aims to promote ethicalvalues amongst the entire group ofpeople that make up our institution aswell as amongst society in general.ESIC,aspartofitsSocialResponsibility Project, develops variousprogrammes that focus on four areas:Academic AreaSUSTAINABLE LEADERSHIPThe Social Responsibility Project, in itsacademic sphere, aims to educatepeople committed to society thatmaintain their ethical values during anykind of decision-making process. ESICwants to encourage professionalstowards an international market thatfollows responsible leadership. In the Postgraduate area,“Sustainable Leadership” and“Business, sustainability andenvironment ethics.” In Executive Education, g the annual conferences andseminars given by ESIC are, inaddition, themes related to ethicsapplied to specific business lifesituations.To this end, the Social Thinking Centreorganizes, as a complement to seminars that are open to students,teaching staff and interested membersof the general public dealing withsubjects related to the topic and inwhich specialized speakers andlecturers participate. In addition, theCentre publishes, through the ESICPublishing House, books of speechesand papers on the subjects of ethics,social thinking and related materials.In this respect, among the academicProgrammes offered by ESIC, thefollowing can be found: For Undergraduates, “BusinessEthics” is a compulsory subjectin all courses offered by theSchool.ESIC Social Responsibility Project 4

June 2016In the 2011-2012 academic year, ESICset up the Diversity Scholarships,aimed at bringing diversity to businessthrough the classroom and the BusinessandCareersDepartments.Thesuccessful students receive ESICscholarships their fees to allow themstudy their course.ESIC started its path to favour theequality of opportunities in the year2011, implement the Diversity Grants,aimed at bringing diversity to businessthrough the classroom and the Businessand Careers Departments. The DiversityProject has reached another stepforward with the signing of theFramework Agreement with the ONCEFoundation in June 2014.From the Diversity Project, there is asupporting service in ESIC for studentswith functional diversity as well ascurricular adaptation. Además, en 2015el Proyecto Diversidad ha celebradosesiones de formación impartidas por laFundación ONCE para alumnado,profesorado y personal de gestión, a lascuales asistieron un total de 270miembros del personal de ESIC.ESIC circulates among its employeesand students, the need for a greaterconscientiousness and effort in offeringpeople with different special needs theopportunities to successfully carry out,in equality terms, a dignified andcomplete life project.In addition, ESIC internally, andthrough conciliation and equalitymeasures, pushes for the elimination ofbarriers in order to achieve the totalintegration of women in the workplaceand equal opportunities for men andwomen.In 2010, the Equality and Diversity Plan2010-2013 was signed, a plan that hadthe total approval of Management, aswell as a willingness to promote anddevelop the actions set out in the planand using all resources necessary for itssuccess. The effect of the Plan can beseen by its incorporation into the ESICQuality Objectives.Strengthening social leadersESIC and the EXPIGA Associationaward three Master Programmescholarships with the goal of ilitiesinsocialorganisations that work for Peace anddevelopment in underdeveloped areas.Aimed at students who come fromcountriesorconditionswhereeducational opportunities of this typeare limited and who, after receiving theeducation,caninfluencethedevelopment of their society.Continuous Improvement SystemProgramme (CSR Plan)The ESIC Community is united underthecontinuousimprovementprogramme coming from its QualityManagement System, which allows thepromotion of relationships betweenstudent, lecturer and company, makingthem participants, through committees,in the improvements that must beintroduced in our Institution and that willimpact on improving society.The ESIC Quality System ,SocialResponsibility into its annual QualityObjectives. Social Action: activities are carriedout through the Volunteers thatpromote the commitment to help theless well off in society.The ESIC CSR Plan includes each andevery action area: Social Culture: the various interestgroups that make up ESIC dailypromote conduct and habits inaccord with a sustainable vision. Transparency & Accountability:ESICannuallypreparestheSummary Report according to theGlobal Compact standards, as wellas transparency in Academic andManagement Results through thecorporative web, following Aneca’sAUDITProgrammeandinagreement with the objectives andprinciples expressed in the qualityassurance Criteria and Directives ofthe European Higher erial on CSR in allprogrammes(Undergraduate,Postgraduate, Executive Education). Research: creation and promotionof lines of research centred on thedevelopment of the PRME andGlobal Compact principles. Dissemination in Society: ESICgeneratesdebateonsocialresponsibility questions amongstudents and lecturers in theclassroom,amongcompanymanagers through its ManagementBreakfasts and through eventsorganisedtopromotethesedebates. ESIC also collaborates inthedisseminationofsocialresponsibility in society throughBooks that deal with various topicsof social responsibility and arepublished by the ESIC PublishingHouse.The design of ESIC’s Quality System iscertified by the ANECA State Agency,whose role is to endorse the existenceof Higher Education Quality Systems inSpain and thereby meet the EuropeanHigher Education Area standards.ESIC Social Responsibility Project 11

June 2016Environment ProgrammeWithin ESIC there is a Recycling andEnvironment Policy for all employeesand students.In one way or another, ESIC tries toensure that the use of these serviceshas the least possible impact on theenvironment. Depending on the type ofresidue, it is given to an authorisedwaste management service or put inpublic containers or brought to a wastecollection point. Water: 100% is delivered to thepublic sewage system.Paper is given to an authorisedmanagement service; it is collectedeach night and later recycled.All computers used in ESIC are ona rental contract. All material ismanaged by a specialized companywith the necessary recyclingcertificates to allow ESIC meet itsrequirements under its QualityManagement System.Paints, adhesive residues, tonerand all other similar material aregiven to recycling managementcompanies.Fluorescent lights and oils: the usedmaterials are brought to a wastecollection point for recycling.Initiatives to reduce paperconsumption and improve energyefficiencyThe most important initiative carried outto reduce paper consumption was thepublication of all the academicprogrammes’ notes and documents ona virtual platform, and to promote itsuse among all the organisation’steaching staff and students.In addition, where photocopying isdeemed necessary, the number ofcopies has been adjusted to thenumber of participants and are printedon both sides. The environmentawareness campaign also encouragesESIC staff to reduce consumption intheir daily tasks (not print unnecessarydocuments, create digital archives,revise and correct documents onscreen, always print on both sides,etc.).Furthermore, to promote energysavings, the starting time for work hasbeen set at 08.00am, thus maximizingdaylight hours and saving per201532,03 KW. Commitment by principlesPrinciple 1PURPOSE: We will develop the capabilities of students to be future generatorsof sustainable value for business and society at large and to work for aninclusive and sustainable global economy.MissionESIC's aim is formulated in its Mission and Identity described below:The Mission of ESIC can be described under the following terms:To train professionals capable of creating companies and organisations orholding a management or technical position at any level, and acting responsiblyand efficiently in any area of activity within the company in the field of marketingat either a national or international level.To spread a culture of respect for ethical values and rationality in business in bothSpanish and international society, opening communication channels betweenacademic activities and corporate business environments and encouraging thebusiness vocation of our students (undergraduates, postgraduates and executiveeducation).To encourage scientific and technical research in business administration andmarketing, promoting not only the work of our own School members, but also providingthe means to promote reflection and activity on research outside the School ininternational environments.ESIC is a university centre attached to the Rey Juan Carlos University, a university withan innovative vocation that was founded in 1996 through an agreement between theMadrid Community Government and the Miguel Hernández University of Valencia, aneducational establishment that aims to serve society by offering quality teaching andresearch, with public service criteria. ESIC is authorised by the Community of Madridand by the Autonomous Government of Navarra to teach official curricula in the UnitedStates, and is also an attached centre of Florida Atlantic University (FAU).ESIC is a non-profit making institution, which belongs to the Sacred Heart FathersCongregation (Dehonian), whose fundamental aim, based on a Christian humanismperspective, is expressed in the School’s mission, mentioned in the previous section.The development of this mission from a community consisting of students, ex-alumni,teachers, administrative and services staff and ESIC management, is articulatedthrough a series of ethical values and corporate social responsibility.ESIC Social Responsibility Project 7

June 2016ProjectsAmong the projects developed topromote a better society, some of themrelated to the educational area andothers through other activities, we canfind:the community to the critical question offresh water today.The Commitment to Justiceand PeaceThrough SCJ ESIC promotes, using itsprofits, help to eradicate poverty incountries such as: Albania, Argentina,Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Belarus,Cameroon, Canada, Chile, Croatia, D.R of the Congo, Ecuador, England,Finland, France, Germany, India,Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg,Madagascar,Mexico,Moldova,Mozambique, Holland, Philippines,Poland, Portugal, Scotland, SouthAfrica, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland,United States, Ukraine, Uruguay,Venezuela.This is our social commitment in the jobfor Justice and Peace. Clean waterfor a healthy worldEn 2010, the Day for Water will becelebrated worldwide. It was organizedby the United Nations in 1992 as aresult of the Rio de Janeiro Conferenceon climate change, held in June of thatyear. Each year a theme is selected.This year’s theme is Clean Water for ahealthy world.We invite our fellow to celebrate thisday to widen the movement around thistheme and to sensitize the attention ofEradication of poverty throughSCJWe would like to highlight some of theprojects that are being financed fromSpain in developing countries.- San Miguel Arcángel (Venezuela)In the Venezuelan capital, the communitiesprovide treatment in a medical center.- Mariara (Venezuela)The community provides a children's free mealsprogramme, a professional training school andsoon will provide treatment in a medical centre.- Tinaquillo (Venezuela)The communities provide several children's freemeals programs and treatment in the "SanMartín de Porres" medical center.- San Carlos (Venezuela)We mainly work with a professional trainingschool.- Bahía de Caraquez (Ecuador)The communities help in health work, children'scare, renovation of neighborhoods, etc. - Quito (Ecuador)We undertake social welfare work. June 2016Principle 2VALUES: We will incorporate into our academic activities and curricula the values ofglobal social responsibility as portrayed in international initiatives such as the UnitedNations Global Compact.Declaration of ValuesThe Declaration of Values of the ESIC Community was approved by the DirectorateGeneral of ESIC on November 17th, 2008, but the Declaration of Values is open andflexible to the possible changes in both the ESIC community and society in general.Listed below are the 10 values that make up the Declaration of Values of ESIC, and foreach one of them, evidence of specific actions promoting them is given.ESIC’s educational activities ethics Study plans that combine intellectual rigor and practical application in order to promotea love for knowledge, training in the values of rationality and a work commitment.A reduced number of students per classroom (between 39 and 40 students per class)A faculty that, in addition to relevant academic qualifications, have professionalexperience as business people or company managers and that have both teaching andcommunication skills.Open and participatory methodology, using "case study" and similar methods, individualand group work.The use of resources and facilities that likewise provide high quality training.Respect for and development of human rights Absence, in the access to studies, in students’ development or in the support whenfinding a job, of any kind of discrimination based on gender, race, religion or culture.Development of attitudes of respect for others, exchange of ideas and academicfreedom in the classroom and beyond.Personal and professional development of the members of ESICConcerning current students: Continuous individualised tutoring for the student once enrolled (1 tutor per group in thefirst three years of the degree programme, and 1 tutor for each postgraduateprogramme) and after completion of programmes, through the Association of Exstudents and the Career Guidance Department.Special tutoring for foreign students. A specific department to mentor foreign students(Department for International Relations).Participation in academic progress through class delegates.Open door policy to faculty and management staff for students. Any student can offertheir personal opinion about ESIC activity regardless of their professional status.Accessibility: ESIC facilities are open to students on the main campus 24 hours a day,365 days a year.ESIC Social Responsibility Project 9

Here are some ofthe indicators achieved over the last 5 years: Redeployment policy for staff members who are currently in other jobs.High percentage of improvements in Faculty Work Contracts.Contracts for a large number of interns: ESIC hires a large number of personnelinvolved in school internships.ESIC Staff loyalty. Full time ESIC staff have worked in the institution for an average of10 years.Professional and personal Reconciliation Programme: Work posts are filled by peoplewho fit the required profile, taking their personal needs into account (100% of peoplewho apply for it have flexible work schedules if their personal needs require it).Collaboration in the development of the community where theschool is integrated:ESIC maintains, in all its activities, partnerships with local, professional and institutionalcommunities into which it integrates: With the local community, organising and promoting cultural activities (lectures,classical music concerts, plays, etc., all with free access) as well as supporting sportsand cultural activities organised by the local community.ESIC Social Responsibility Project 10

June 2016 With companies, linking itself as closely as possible to the business community throughopen and in-company training for businesses, the Executive Education training area,through the Board of Directors composed of entrepreneurs and managers, by havingteachers from public and private companies, organising student placements inenterprises to supplement their training, etc.With Management universities and schools: ESIC is attached to the University ReyJuan Carlos, Madrid and the University Miguel Hernández, Elche. ESIC works withthese and with other Spanish universities and universities in other countries in themaintenance of Research Magazines such as ESIC-Market, ESIC Spanish Magazinefor Marketing Research, as well as being an active member of Spanish Universities.With Schools and Institutes, ESIC holds free annual training events at each of theircampuses for the directors of schools; "Pre-university Seminars and the Company."Participation in Fairs in Schools and Public Institutions (UNITUR).With students and professionals in Spain and other countries through the BusinessMarketing Competition organised by and involving teams of students and professionals.Social Commitment: The results obtained annually at ESIC are partly invested in social and educationalactivities in developing countries.Microcredit Plan for small company development: ESIC-AVIVA Plan "Orbayu Project."Annual volunteering programmes in developing countries.Respect for the environment in all parts of ESIC campuses.Internationalisation:In a globalised world, ESIC wants to be an international mobilisation channel for its students.Here are some indicators of what has been achieved: Department of International Relations,international agreements with other schools, students completing international programmes,numerous agreements with multinational companies for training programmes, agreements withmultinational companies through the Internship and Professional Careers Service and ESICbelonging to the most prestigious International Associations in the World (EFMD, AACSB,EMBA COUNCIL, CEEMAN, CLADEA, among others)ESIC Social Responsibility Project 11

the Principles for Responsible Management Education, promoted by the United Nations. In addition, ESIC is also a member of the Socially Responsible Excellence Project, a workgroup promoted by the Excellence in Management Club and made up of top-level Spanish companies which are highly involved in Corporate Social Responsibility and
