Who has designedtraining systemsfor the greatestvariety ofhelicopters? We have.CAE has simulated helicopters from virtually all themajor manufacturers, including Airbus Helicopters, Bell,Boeing, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Kaman,Leonardo Helicopters, MD Helicopters, NHIndustries, and Lockheed Martin/Sikorsky.

Helicopter AircrewTraining Partner of ChoiceHelicopter pilots today are operating highly specialized, complex helicopters for an array of missions, includingattack, tactical support, troop transport, search and rescue, reconnaissance, anti-submarine warfare and more. The changing nature of warfare over challenging terrain and in demanding environments, combined withhumanitarian support requirements, has made the flexibility of helicopters even more important for military forces.Simulating rotary wing aircraft and designing a training program to meet training objectives is a major challenge.Helicopters maintain some unique characteristics in areas such as aerodynamics and vibration that makehigh-fidelity simulation a difficult task. The varied operational uses of the helicopter combined with specializedtechnical challenges place unique demands on helicopter training and simulation.CAE is the ideal partner for all training and mission rehearsal needs of today’s helicopter aircrews. From entry-level training devices to the networking of advanced multi-mission helicopter simulators operatingin an interactive threat environment, CAE has earned a reputation as the leader in delivering helicopter aircrewtraining. We provide innovative simulation products and comprehensive training services to help prepare helicopteraircrews for their demanding missions. In fact, no other company has designed training systems for a greatervariety of rotary wing platforms.AW109AS365 DauphinAW139AB205AW189AS332 Super PumaAS532 HH-52ALynx Mk3Lynx Mk8Super -67UH-1D/HUH-60L/MUH-72Helicopter Aircrew Training Solutions3

Technology LeadershipCAE is focused on designing and developing the most advancedsimulation-based training systems. Our focus on training, simulation, and missionfor helicopter training. The CAE Medallion-6000XR isrehearsal, as well as the skill and imagination of ourthe latest member of CAE's powerful Medallion imagepeople, has helped us pioneer many of the innovationsgenerator family and was developed with full supportrelated to helicopter simulation over the past severalfor the Open Geospatial Consortium Common Databasedecades. Our technology leadership is evidenced in the(OGC CDB). The CAE Medallion-6000XR deliversfollowing areas.exceptional image quality and scene density particularlyimportant for low-level helicopter simulation-basedtraining.Blade Element Rotor ModelCAE’s Blade Element Rotor Model (BERM) is the basisfor modeling the blade aerodynamic characteristics ofall helicopters. The BERM models the complex airflowaround the rotating airfoils and accurately simulatesthe blade hinge and hub articulation, as well as all ofthe power-drive linkages. In addition, the accuratesimulation of blade malfunctions is a fundamental andintegral part of the BERM.Vibration PlatformWhen accurately stimulated, vibrations combinewith visual and sound system cues to ensure thatthe aircrew develops proper control strategies whileexperiencing representative workloads. Vibrations inhelicopters, in addition to creating a harsh operatingenvironment, provide the aircrew with rotor dynamicfeedback critical to their ability to control the aircraft.CAE’s high performance 3-DOF (degree-of-freedom)vibration platform, installed under the cockpit, subjectsthe entire cockpit to vibration cues that are validatedwith actual helicopter recorded data. In addition, on ourfixed-based devices our revolutionary dynamic seat forvibration and motion cueing delivers maximum realismof the training experience.Visual SystemsCAE offers extreme field-of-view display systems andpowerful image generators to create a realistic andimmersive out-the-window virtual environment critical4Who is the leadingprovider of highfidelity helicoptertraining systemsand services? We are.

Open Geospatial ConsortiumCommon Database (OGC CDB)The Common Database (CDB), a CAE-led development,is designed to significantly reduce the timeline it takesthe interaction of the helicopter’s tires and landing gearwith the ground must be accurately simulated. CAE hasdeveloped advanced ground handling models thatfaithfully simulate the helicopter’s on-ground directionalstability and control characteristics.to get a fully correlated database in operation withina range of training and mission rehearsal systems.Correlation of multiple databases in varying formatshas been one of the major obstacles facing militaryforces wanting to practice and rehearse missions insimulation. The CDB architecture effectively removesthis obstacle by allowing all users, or “clients,” of thedata required to access the information from a commondatabase source and do so in real-time. These clientsinclude not only the out-the-window visual scene ina simulator, but also other systems in the simulatorrequiring data, such as sensors, computer-generatedforces, and communications systems. Since thecompletion of the original contracts under which theCDB was developed, the CDB specification has beenmaintained and updated by an industry-led board. In September 2016, the Open Geospatial Consortium(OGC ) an independent, international consensusbased standards development organization, formallyapproved the CDB as a standard and it is now referredRoll-On/Roll-Off Cockpitsto as the OGC CDB. The adoption of the CDB as an OGCCAE pioneered the development of a full-missionstandard brings together the geospatial intelligence andhelicopter simulator with a revolutionary roll-on/modelling and simulation industries to establish greaterroll-off cockpit design, which enables cockpitsinteroperability in the use of geospatial data.representing various helicopter types to be used ina “mothership”.
