MeetingNew DemandsToday’s armed forces are facing a multitude of differentand complex challenges, with an increasing demandon operational readiness at any place and at any time. Thus, the importance of comprehensive and operationspecific training becomes more critical. At CAE, ourentire focus is on creating simulation-based solutionsthat address these evolving and emerging missiontraining requirements. From traditional training forcombat readiness to non-traditional roles such asoperations other than war (OOTW), peacekeeping andhumanitarian assistance, military operations in urbanterrain (MOUT), joint and multinational operations, andmore, CAE is supporting defence and homeland securityforces worldwide through innovation and technology.

The CAE GESI-SiTAClassroom ApplicationBy evolving CAE’s renowned CAE GESI constructive simulation system, CAE has created a highly flexible simulationtool called CAE GESI-SiTA (Simulation-based Tactical training for military Academies) to optimize student educationin the classroom environment. The CAE GESI-SiTA classroom application offers a unique foundation to experience and learn tactical basics atthe highest level of detail and interactivity. Specifically designed for military academies, CAE GESI-SiTA allows thestudent to become more immersed than ever before in real-world battlefield scenarios and in in-depth tacticaltraining. For the first time, clear and comprehensive illustrations of complex tactical situations are available, showing the relationship between forces, time and terrain. This makes CAE GESI-SiTA the ideal tool for in-depthlearning in a classroom environment.Core TechnologyCAE GESI core technology provides the platform for CAE GESI-SiTA and helps students meet the challenges fromthe most basic to the most complex of simulated military operations.Key features include:Î Fully customizable by the end-user(including weapons, scenarios and more);Î Field-of-vision algorithm;Î Display of weapon range and effects;Î Route calculation algorithms;Î Workflow models for logistics and medicalservices for holistic mission readiness;Î Single entity resolution with thousands ofÎ Operation, barrier and fire plan overlays;Î Weather modelling affecting battlefieldoperations;Î Simulation of an extensive range of missions(including joint operations, OOTW, MOUT and more);Î Interoperability to operational command andcontrol systems;Î Cost-effective and training efficient.elements and multiple parties; These features provide a comprehensive battlefield representation of modern warfare and include specificdetails that are particularly relevant in a classroom environment. Exercises evolve in real-time and with realworld realism, considering weapon system capabilities and environmental factors.Transparency and Dynamic InteractionUsing modern simulation technology, the tactical content expands upon previously limited teaching methods todeliver a higher level of transparency by visualizing the possibilities and restrictions on the battlefield. Comparisonscan easily be drawn between opposing forces at any time via statistics or simulation replays, thus deliveringbetter user understanding and comprehension. The classroom system allows for review of entire battles andillustrates key criteria such as force ratios, losses, lines of sight, logistic situations among other relevant dataof the involved parties. The detail provided through CAE GESI-SiTA reveals the fundamental reasons for tacticaldevelopments in battlefield scenarios. Consequently, results become retraceable and credible with the tacticaloutcomes more comprehensible.CAE GESI-SiTA Classroom Education3

Who is supporting defenceand homeland security forcesworlwide through innovationand technology? We are.Education PlanStudents can easily navigate through lessons using the education plan, based on the didactical architecturederived from tactical training at military academies. All contents are only a mouse click away, whether displayingan operation plan overlay on the map or launching a workgroup simulation to explore different solutions for amission. The education plan allows the student to easily open documents such as PDF files, network and webcontent or simulation-based applications by just clicking on the related menu item. Each item can be deactivatedor made accessible by the instructor at any time, providing students with a clearly arranged didactical path andallowing instructors the opportunity to combine classical documents and simulation resources in one easy-touse navigation tool.Feedback and PresentationResults and highlights of simulation-based missions in workgroups or single-user mode can be analyzed, discussedand prepared for presentation using the After Action Review tool.Key features include:Î Recording of complete exercises to debriefoptimization;Î Creation of event bookmarks (manually andas snapshots or dynamic replays including fullsimulation functionality;automatically) during the exercise for easyÎ Extensive statistical overviews;retrieval and analysis;Î Assembly of presentations.Educational NetworkThe educational network links student tacticalworkstations to the instructor’s desktop, thus enablingthe instructor to monitor the work of each individualstudent. Using the educational network, the speed ofthe entire training event can be synchronized to theindividual progress of students, giving the instructortransparency regarding where students stand, howworkgroups elaborate solutions and where support isrequired. In order to gain full attention, the instructorcan clear and deactivate all desktops with just onepush of a button. Additionally, the network can be usedto display the screen contents of individual studentworkstations using a projector for a subsequentdiscussion of results and solutions with the entire class.4Î Creation of tactical situation graphics, either

One Simulation,MultipleApplicationsThe CAE GESI constructive simulationsystem is the baseline for multiple CAEapplications, including CAE GESI-SiTAClassroom Education. Following is a briefoverview of how the CAE GESI system isbeing used for different applications.

CAE GESI - Command andStaff Trainer and BeyondToday’s armed forces are facing complex challenges with increasing demand on operational readiness at anytime and any place. Missions not only include traditional multi-domain military actions force-on-force, but alsohumanitarian assistance and stabilization operations, operations other than war (OOTW), joint and multi-nationaloperations, network centric warfare, military operations in urban terrain (MOUT), asymmetric warfare, catastropherelief operations, and more. New factors such as social media (with local and worldwide impact) and cyberwarfare play an increasing role.CAE’s GESI is an advanced, multi-purpose constructive simulation system for comprehensive training, wargaming, decision support, concept development & experimentation (CD&E) and beyond. It is designed to run complex and comprehensive exercises from a company up to division level, both in acomputer-assisted exercise (CAX) and classroom environment, ultimately improving commanders and their staffin their decision-making capabilities. Using the CAE GESI system, commanders and their staff can conduct trainingexercises in their regular command posts using original equipment in a most cost-effective and efficient manner.CAE GESI-EM - EmergencyManagement TrainingAnalyze, decide and command – efficient emergency management requires decision makers to anticipate thepotential consequences of crisis situations and to use any available resource effectively to bring the situationunder control. The multitude of possible threats and risks makeachieving this task a serious challenge to governmentalinstitutions, aid agencies, local authorities andcorporations, in particular those managing criticalinfrastructures. The best measures to prepare forcrisis situations are emergency plans that answer thequestion “what if” and are supported by a team of welltrained crisis and emergency managers.CAE’s GESI Emergency Management (EM) simulationenvironment is an essential aid to meet these challenges. It simulates comprehensive emergency situations, providing an environment to develop emergency plans, and to train/prepare crisis and emergency managers. Its layout and functionality is continuously updatedconcurrently with the development of the CAE GESIcore application.CAE GESI-SiTA Classroom Education7

The GlobalSimSolutionCAE and ROLANDS & ASSOCIATES (R&A) collaboratedto develop a federated constructive simulation solutioncalled GlobalSim. The GlobalSim solution combinesCAE's GESI command and staff training system withR&A's Joint Theater-Level Simulation (JTLS).

GlobalSimThe GlobalSim solution from CAE and R&A is a unique combination of two well-established systems, providinga comprehensive constructive simulation environment from the theater-level down to the tactical simulationlevel. Users can train in an integrated constructive simulation environment without requiring separate solutionsfor the “big picture” operational environment and the detailed tactical-level environment.GlobalSim can be used for command post exercise support, contingency/management plan testing, coalitiontraining among both military and civil agencies, budget-based wargaming, decision support, decision analyses, experimentation, and emergency preparedness training.GlobalSim uses an open architecture and industry standards for interfacing with other systems to allowintegration and experimentation with operational components. Some of the key features ofGlobalSim include:Some of the key benefits of theGlobalSim solution include:Î ightly linked and integrated federationTbetween a theater-level aggregatesimulation (JTLS) and a tactical, entity-levelsimulation (GESI);ÎI ntegration of theater/strategic leveloperations with tactical unit operationsthus allowing theater-level scenarios withtactical-level inserts;Î upports the industry standard High-LevelSArchitecture (HLA) to facilitate integrationand interoperability;ÎSingle, integrated and more realistic view ofthe complete operational environment;ÎÎ ombination of two of the world’s leadingCconstructive simulation solutions: eneration of realistic and unexpectedGconsequences as well as other synergeticeffects by combining the strengths of JTLSand GESI into one exercise;ÎEasy-to-use exercise editors andcomprehensive after-action reviewcapability;ÎOpen architecture and standards for easeof integration and experimentation;ÎOptimization of the number of operatorsand operating expense.
