WELCOME – Jeff EdwardsWelcome athletes,On behalf of the IRONMAN Asia team, I would like to welcome you to the 2022 DesaruCoast Multisport Festival.After a long two years we are excited to welcome you to the popular holiday destinationof Desaru Coast and bring you the first 5150 Desaru Coast race to Malaysia in 2022. Thecourse will take in the beauty of the coastline of Johor, with an ocean swim, smoothundulating bike course and run course through The Els Club Desaru Coast – Ocean Course.We understand the effort that you’ve made to prepare for this event, especially with allthe postponements, and our IRONMAN team stands ready to help you achieve your goalsand cross the finish line. Please take a moment on race day to reflect on what will be afantastic experience and lifelong memory.We’d like to extend our appreciation to the local government and all the event partners,volunteers, supporters and local community who have all played an integral part in thesuccess of this event and allowing it to happen in 2022. WELCOME – CG LimHello everyone! Welcome to the 1st edition of the 2022 5150 Desaru Coast, Johor Malaysia. It has been achallenging journey leading up to the event but we are so proud and happy to see it finally happening!Desaru Coast is a premier destination at the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia. This amazing locationcomes with a 17km of sparkling sand beach facing the South China Sea. 5150 Desaru Coast is a newaddition to the IRONMAN calendar.Our team has been working closely with Desaru Coast team since 2014 to create the most sought-afterevent in South East Asia. Our vision is to create a week packed with sun, fun and adrenaline. Thus, theidea of a Multisport Festival week was born. 5150 Desaru Coast is a fringe event for this Multisportfestival alongside IRONKIDS, Desaru Coast Sprint Triathlon and IRONMAN 70.3 Desaru Coast, an offeringsuitable to each member of the family.5150 Desaru Coast offers athletes a change of environment and race experience. Being in the mainlandof Peninsular, the travel to Desaru Coast is hassle free for those living in Malaysia. With a 4-hour drivefrom Kuala Lumpur and with its proximity to Singapore, athletes can travel to the venue with theirfamilies and supporters.The swim course in the open ocean of South China Sea is a one-lap triangular shaped course. The racewill be a rolling start format from the beach front of Westin Desaru Coast.The bike course is a rolling hill road along the coast of Desaru. The local authorities have agreed to closepart of the course from vehicular traffic, but we urge athletes to be aware of pedestrians from thevillages and residential areas along the course.The run course is an undulating course around the premises of Desaru Coast. The partly sheltered runcourse provides the athletes with great running experience and supporters can access the whole runcourse to cheer them on.On behalf of IRONMAN team, I would like to extend our appreciation to the management and team ofDesaru Coast Destination Resort, Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, Tourism Johor and localcouncils their support and collaboration efforts to make this event a success.I wish every one of you a good race and an enjoyable weekend. MESSAGE FROM RACE REFEREEWe are using the 2022 IRONMAN Race Competition Rules in alignment with the special IRONMAN Rulesand this is a NON-Drafting Event. To minimise the possibility of infringing the rules on race day andavoiding a visit to the Penalty Box, please observe the following:- Ride on the left side of the bike lane- Keep 12 metres between yourself and the cyclist in front of you – front wheel to front wheel- Pass on the right of the cyclist in front (never on the left)- Complete your pass within 25 seconds- If passed, drop back immediately 12 metres and ensure you have dropped back the full 12 metresbefore repassing- Conduct personal toilet stops at the on-course toilet facilities provided.- Remember to treat other athletes, volunteers and officials with courtesy and consideration asfailure to do so is Unsportsmanlike Conduct.Triathlon is an endurance race and it is your responsibility to fully understand the rules and avoidinfringements. A Technical Official’s ruling is final in the case of Drafting, Blocking, and Illegal Passinfringements (Judgment Calls) and these are not subject to either protest or appeal. Following are themost common rule infringements: Blocking – Riding on the right side of an athlete without passing or riding on the righthand side of the bike lane when clear of other athletes Drafting – Following a leading cyclist closer than 12 metres and failing to pass in 25seconds OR after being passed, failing to drop back 12 metres before re-passing Illegal Pass – Passing on the left Littering - Discarding items, e.g. tyres, bike bottles, gel wrappers etc. on any part of thecourse except within sight of an Aid Station Helmet – Always have your chin strap securely fastened when moving with your bikeA Technical Official will advise you of any time Penalty by calling your number, advising you of thenature of the infringement and showing you a Blue Card. It will then be your responsibility toserve the 5-minute time Penalty at the next Penalty Box. COVID SAFE – RETURN TO RACINGPreviously we announced our Safe Return to Racing event guidelines to make the current racingenvironment as safe and risk free for you as possible while still delivering exceptional race dayexperiences for everyone in our community. You can always refer to the Return to Racing resources,part of our IRONMAN Smart Program, here.Below is a summary of the key measures we are implementing this year. However please thoroughlyread the entire AIG.OVERALL If you or a close contact have COVID-19 symptoms from 3 July up to and including race day,please do not attend the event. Contact us at malaysia@ironman.com by 3:00pm Sunday 17 Julyto discuss your event entry options. Requests received after this time will not be considered.Wearing a face mask is compulsory in the race villageSanitizing stations are available at all points of entry to controlled spaces.PRE-EVENT Pre-event review/update of medical & emergency contact details check.Make sure you are fully vaccinated prior to race day.AID STATION Athletes are encouraged to be self-reliant on course, carrying hydration and nutrition onthemselves during competition. Aid stations are available for additional support and re-supply.Hydration will be provided in takeaway single serve bidons on bike course and takeaway singleserve cups at all others aid stations.Bike course products will be distributed by volunteers wearing gloves to moving cyclists. If you do not check in during the designated AthleteCheck-In hours you will not be permitted to race.ALL RACE PACKETS MUST BE PICKED UP BY 8PM ON 22 JULY 2022.WHERE:Desaru Coast Conference CentreWHAT TO BRING:-Photo IDOR-PassportRELAY TEAM CHECK-IN:Relay teams must be present together at Athlete Check-In, at the same time. No relay team will bepermitted to check in if all members are not present. All relay teams must check in during the postedAthlete Check-In dates and times – NO EXCEPTIONS.Each athlete that participates in a Relay will receive a shirt and medal. Medals will be distributed at thefinish line upon completion of the race.12

Timing ChipYou will pick up your timing chip at Athlete Check-In at Desaru Coast Conference Centre on Friday,22 July 2022 from 2pm till 8pm.ID WristbandYour unique ID wristband will be fixed to your wrist when you Check-In onsite at the event. This is youraccess to Athlete only areas and MUST be worn at all times.Race Number (Bib)Your Race Number (Bib) needs to be worn on the Run leg of the event. We recommend bringing arace belt to attach to your race number.ATHLETES WILL RECEIVEBike Seat Post StickerYour Bike Seat Post Sticker is to be fixed under the seat of your bike. You will need to ensure you dothis before Bike Check-In on Saturday, 23 July 2022 between 5am – 6.30am.Bike Pump StickerYou will receive a small unique numbered sticker to affix to your bike pump. You will have access toyour bike on race morning between 5am to 6.30am. Your bike pump can be dropped at the specifiedStreet Gear Bag drop before the race. Bike pumps are not to be left in Transition during the race.Helmet StickerYour helmet sticker is to be fixed to the front of your helmet.Street Gear Bag StickerYou will receive a unique sticker with your individual race number to affix to your Street Gear Bag.This is to identify your street gear bag amongst other Triathletes when you drop off and collect.13

Swim CapYou must wear the swim cap provided to you at the Athlete Check-In, during the race. The swim capcolour provided to you will be according to your predicted swim finish.Zone 1Zone 2Zone 3OrangeYellowFlorescent GreenTattoosYou will receive two (2) tattoos in your Athlete Kit. Your number tattoo is to be applied to your rightupper arm. Your letter tattoo represents the Age Group category you are in and is to be applied toyour right calf.Street Gear BagYour Street Gear Bag (Maroon Bag) is used to hold any items you would like accessto directly after the race or anything you would like to wear before the race. You willdrop your Street Gear Bag at the designated area next to recovery on race morningprior to the race. You will then be able to access this once you have completed therace. You will receive a unique Street Gear Bag sticker with your individual racenumber to affix to your Street Gear Bag. This is to identify your Street Gear Bagsamongst other Triathletes when you drop off and collect.14

ATHLETE WRIST BAND:A wristband printed with your race number will be affixed to your wrist at Athlete Check-In. This bandwill identify you as an official athlete and must be worn during race week. The wristband is required formedical identification purposes and allows you access to both transition area and post-race athleterecovery areas. Any wristbands from previous events must be removed.TATTOOS:You will receive 2 separate tattoos within your race kit.Race NumberCategory LetterRACE NUMBER TATTOOWearing your race number tattoo is compulsory. You must have your race number displayed on yourright bicep. If you are wearing a long sleeve top or short sleeve Tri-Suit, place the tattoo on your rightforearm.CATEGORY TATTOOYour category letter tattoo identifies which Age Category you are in. This must be displayed on yourright calf.BEST WAY TO APPLY YOUR TATTOO’SThe tattoos can be easily applied by peeling the clear film off, placing the number face-down on yourbody, firmly pressing the paper side with a damp cloth or sponge, holding for 60 seconds and gently peelback the paper.In the case your tattoo becomes faulty please see the information staff who will be able to assist bywriting your number/letter on with a permanent marker15

TIMING:Your timing chip will be in your athlete packet. Make sure to look out for it during Athlete Check In. Thetiming chip must be worn on your left ankle at all times during the race. If you do not start the race, youare responsible for returning the chip to an IRONMAN staff member or timing team member. Failure todo so may disqualify you from participating in future IRONMAN events. It is essential that we knowwhere you are on the course at all times for your safety and our peace of mind. If you are transported toany medical station, the medical staff will take responsibility for chip. If you lose your timing chip duringthe event, you are responsible for obtaining a replacement at one of the following locations: swim start,swim exit, bike exit or run exit. Failure to wear your timing chip on race day, or pay the replacement costof your lost timing chip may disqualify you from future IRONMAN events. Replacement chips will becharged back to the athlete of USD150.16

PRE-RACE INFORMATIONBIKE CHECK- INMandatory bicycle check-in is 23 July 2022 from 5am to 6.30am at Transition next to Westin Hotel. Youmay bring your gear into transition race morning. All bicycles must be checked in by Saturday, 23 July2022. You will not be allowed to remove your bike from transition until the start of the bike portion ofthe race.SHUTTLE TRANSFERSShuttle buses from designated pick up points on race week is for athletes and supporters. For moreinformation, please proceed to our website.BIKE MECHANICSThe Official Bike Mechanics for this event will be available during the IRONMAN Sports & Lifestyle Expolocated at the Desaru Coast Conference Centre on 22 July 2022 and will be a paid service.On Saturday, the bike mechanics will be located at the entrance of Transition and only minor adjustmentservices will be available (terms and conditions apply).17

RACE DAY INFORMATIONRACE DAY SERVICESTRANSITION OPENING TIMESTIME: Transition will be open from 5am – 6.30amPlease ensure you leave yourself enough time on race morning as all athletes will are required to be outof transition by 6.30am.STREET GEAR BAG DROPLOCATION: Westin HotelTIME: 6amStreet Gear Bag Drop is located at Westin Hotel. Your Street Gear Bag will be at the Street Gear Tent,located near the Recovery.Please ensure that you have the gear bag sticker (located in your race kit) clearly stuck on the front ofyour bag. Your Street Gear will consist of any clothes you require post-race. You must only use theStreet Gear Bag provided. Any other bags used will not be accepted on race morning.Bike pumps will also be accepted at Street Gear Bag Tent on race morning. Please ensure it is clearlylabelled with your Bike Pump Sticker.CUT-OFFSThe race will officially end 5 hours after the final athlete enters the water via the rolling start. Aid stationstops, transitions, etc., will be included in your total elapsed time. Splits will be recorded for eachsegment of the race. The following cut-off times apply for each segment of the race:SWIM CUT-OFFThe swim course will close 60 minutes after the final athlete enters the water. Each athlete will have 60minutes to complete the 1.5km swim. Athletes who take longer than 60 minutes to complete the swimwill receive a DNF. IRONMAN officials reserve the right to pull athletes off the course who exceed anyestablished course time cut-offs.BIKE CUT-OFFAll athletes must start the bike course by 8:35am. The bike course will close 3 hours and 20 minutesafter the final athlete enters the water. Each athlete or relay team will have 3 hours and 20 minutes tocomplete the swim, transition and bike course regardless of when they start the swim. There are threeintermediate bike cut-offs at:1. Bike Transition Exit (Athletes must pass the mount line and be riding, Approx. Km 0) at 8:35am2. Athletes must have passed Jalan Ladang Siang turnaround point, Approx. Km 20) at 9:42am3. Bike Transition Entry (Athletes must have dismounted their bike and passed the dismount line,Approx. KM 40) at 10:50am.The bike course will close at 11:00am. Any athlete or relay team that takes longer than 3 hours and 20minutes to complete the swim, transition and bike course will receive a DNF.18

RUN CUT-OFFAthletes must begin the run course by 10:55am. The run course will close 5 hours after the final athleteenters the water. Each athlete or relay team will have 5 hours to complete the entire course. Anyathlete or relay team that takes longer than 5 hours to complete the entire course will receive a DNF.There are additional run course cut-offs at:1. Run Transition Exit (Athletes must have passed the run exit arch and have started the run course,approximately KM 0) at 10:55am. Anyone not starting the Run Transition Exit (Athletes musthave passed the run exit arch and have started the run course) by 10:55am will not be permittedto continue.2. Athletes must have passed Jalan Danau turnaround point, KM 5 at 11:42am.3. Finish Arch, KM10 at 12:30pm.The run course will close at 12:40pm.IRONMAN reserves the right to remove an athlete from the course and DNF the athlete if our coursestaff determines there is no possibility of an athlete finishing the given discipline (swim, bike, run)before the posted cut-off times based on an athlete’s location, time and average speed up to that point.Based on permits for the roads on the course and the safety of athletes involved, cut-off times must berespected for all 5150 events.AID STATIONS:Aid stations are approximately every 13KM-17KM on the bike and approximately a 2KM apart on therun. TRANSITIONTRANSITION TIMESTransition will be open from 5am to 6.30am on race morning, 23 July 2022. Please ensure you leaveyourself enough time on race morning as all athletes will need to be out of Transition by 6.30am.RELAY TEAM PROCEDUREAll Relay team members must exit Transition by 6.30am. At the discretion of the Transition Manager,cyclist will be able to re-enter into transition at approximately 7am via the Transition team holding area.Relay Team Members (cyclist and runner) will be required to stand at the Transition team holding areaand await their team member, collect the team band (that acts as a baton) before starting the next legof the race.BIKE CHECK-OUTBike Check-Out is from 11am to 2pm. You are required to claim your bicycle and gear after the race. Youmust have your athlete wristband on in order to claim your bike and gear. If your bags are not claimedfrom 11am to 2pm, 5150 Desaru Coast will not be responsible for any items left behind.20

If unable to, a dropoff point will be available at swim start.SWIM CUT-OFFSThe ROKA swim course will close 60 minutes after the final athlete enters the water. FINISH LINEFINISH LINE POLICYFriends and family members, including children, are not permitted in the finish chute or finish area. Weask that all athletes respect the finish line area and ensure that celebrations do not interfere with otherathletes finish line experience. POST RACE INFORMATIONRECOVERYAs you cross the finish line, volunteer catchers will be there to escort you to the secured recovery area.You will be presented with a finisher medal. These catchers will endeavour to briefly assess you as youproceed and may need to take you directly to the Medical Tent for treatment. If you do not require anytreatment, you will be able to proceed to the Recovery facilities.Unfortunately, you will not be able to re-enter Recovery one you have exited so make sure you arecomfortable prior to this point. Please remember volunteers and the medical team are there to help youat any point should you require.Medical assistance will be available if you require further attention.AWARDS2022 5150 Desaru Coast Awards presentations will be held on 23 July 2022 at 11am at Desaru CoastConference Centre.
