Students who participate in this DISU, with guidance from instructorCarrie Eikler, will take Bolsinger’s work further to apply these concepts to theirlives and ministry. Students will receive one M/MS unit.Minister as Theologianonline courseSeptember 7-November 1, 2022As a minister in a church, you are often both the “resident theologian” and“minor poet”. You are a “resident theologian” because people look to you topreach, pray, teach, and, perhaps, sing the Good News of Jesus Christ. You area “minor poet” because practical theological wisdom requires minds that are flexible, winsome, connective, and creative. As an introduction to theological thinking, instructor and BethanySeminary faculty member, Dr. Joelle Hathaway, will cover some of the “big topics” that Christianstalk about, including: God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, humanity as the image of God, andChristian hope. We will read multiple genres, including sermons and poetry, to help us explore thedeep, imaginative interconnections between various aspects of the Christian faith. Students willreceive one B/T unit and are eligible for a Bethany Theological Seminary Experience. For more information, please see the course brochures at:www.bethanyseminary.edu/brethren-academy

The ScrollSpring 2022Page 10Director’s PageIt was an odd sort of Holy Week this year. Of all the things my husbandand I had intended to do, nothing went to plan. Just as Love Feast wasbeginning, we received a phone call from a family member in crisis, which took precedent over the beloved ritual. On Good Friday, insteadof attending a noontime worship service, we found ourselves tending to a family of sicksquirrels in our backyard, waiting for our local wildlife expert to bring medicine and advice. And on Easter, we saw sunrise from the bedside of a sick parent, feeling grateful that she hadmade it through the night. Easter Sunday found us filled with deep emotion, grief boundtogether with joy.And so, it was not a lovely Easter, but it was a sacred one. It held few elements of what mightbe considered a traditional Holy Week. And yet, all of it all felt holy.We serve a risen Christ who is with us always – amid sacred rituals and life’s emergencies, amid beautiful worship spaces and in our own backyard, amid sunrise services and the longdark nights that precedes the dawn. Amid all of life, Christ is there. Always.
