Pro-C ControllerPRODUCT OVERVIEWA Complete Family of Full-featuredIndoor and Outdoor Residential andLight Commercial ControllersFor the end user, for the contractor.there hasnever been a residential and light commercialcontroller so remarkably easy to handle as this.Presenting the new Hunter Pro-C Controller.Borrowing the innovative concept ofmodular design from its big brother, the ICC,this latest addition to the Hunter productline-up is destined to become the leadingcontroller in its market segment in the years tocome. Starting with a base model of 3 stations,it is possible to expand the controller up to15 stations simply by adding plug-in modules. So, thereʼs no need to bring along a variety ofdifferent-sized controllers to see which one isbest for the job. With its ability to customizeto the particular size you need, the Pro-C willalways be the right choice. Being a modularsystem, the new Pro-C also makes inventorya breeze for contractors—there are only threedifferent units to stock (indoor cabinets, outdoor cabinets and station modules). But, modularity isnʼt all this controllerhas to offer, with great features such asthree programs with multiple start times, independent day scheduling options,“one touch” manual start and rapid advance,a programmable event day off, robust heavyduty locking plastic cabinet, and superiorsurge protection. The Pro-C controller: delivering maximumflexibility for landscapes that require aminimal number of stations.C O N TR E RL LP R OO-C1

FEATURES AND BENEFITSOutdoorsIndoorsOutdoor or Indoor Models AvailableA versatile controller, covering the needsof any installationThe Pro-C controller is offered as an outdoormodel when the need for weather resistance isrequired and as an indoor model for installations where protection from the elementsis available. Both models are listed with ULand CE.Modular DesignOne controller does it all; no need to stockor carry multiple unitsHunter is a leader infulfilling customerwishes and the Pro-Ccontroller simply thelatest in a long historyof quality irrigationproducts. Here is animpressive controller, with its modulardesign for inventorymanagement, three stations factory installed, and the ability to easily add more stations, this is one well-conceived controller that willsatisfy both contractor and end user alike.“Custom-tailored” to the Project. Startwith the PC-300 outdoor or PC-300i indoor3-station controller base model and thencustomize it to your project with the additionof the PCM-300 3-station plug-in modules. The PCM-900 9-station module can also beadded to expand the Pro-C station capacity to15 stations. One to three additional modulescan be added covering the zone requirementsof the majority of all residential and light2commercial jobs. No longer does the installerhave to spend extra money on a controller withextra zones that arenʼt necessary.Easy Inventory Management. Now, onlyone controller need be stocked for all projects. With its modularity, the Pro-C can be calledout as a 3-, 6-, 9-, 12- or 15-station controlleron most irrigation designs, making it the onlycontroller necessary to keep on hand. Simplystock the base unit for all jobs and keep abox of modules to easily add stations to thecontroller as required.Modular Design Eliminates ServiceHassles. When heavy electrical surges(lightning) hit a controller, the damage itinflicts can occur in the primary or secondarycircuitry. The Pro-C is the easiest controllerto service with its readily removable primarypower and station modules. Because ofthe modular design, when clock repair isnecessary, the simple repair process is toextract the damaged module from the unit andreplace. The contractor will find that there isno requirement to remove the controller fromthe wall.Future Expansion. Easy addition ofstations is a component of the modularconcept. When your customers add on to theirlandscapes in future projects, the Pro-C is upto the task. The PCM station modules can beadded, to make future expansion a breeze.Large LCD DisplayEasy to read for schedule review and entryThe large LCD display simplifiesprogramming, making it easy to read andverify. In low light conditions, a large displayis a welcome sight to any user.

Pro-C ControllerNon-volatile MemoryHolds programs indefinitely; excellentinsurance against unreliable powerThe Pro-C has what every user of electroniccontrollers has wished for: the ability to keepall programs in memory without a backupbattery. In the event of a power failure or ifAC power is suspended from the controller bythe user, the Pro-Cʼs non-volatile memory willmaintain programs forever, without need fora battery. Normal watering will resume whenAC power is restored. No Battery RequiredMaintain time of day up to four weeksThe circuitry of the Pro-C has such low powerconsumption that the controller will accuratelytrack the time of day for up to four weeksafter AC power has been removed from thecontroller by the user or in the event of apower outage. This timekeeping occurswithout need for a battery. Whenpower is restored the controller willcontinue to water, right on schedule. The controller will also reset itscircuits to allow another 4 weeks oftime keeping. The self-diagnostic system detects a highcurrent path—a “short”—through an operatingstation (the most common causes of shortsare faulty solenoids or when a bare valvecommon wire touches a bare station controlwire). When a short circuit is detected ona station, instead of blowing a fuse whichwould shut down the entire irrigation system, the controller will skip over that station andcontinue to water the rest of the zones inthe program. The controller will indicatewhat zone is shorting by showing the stationnumber followed by ERR in the LCD display. The controller will continue to “jump over”that zone during every watering until thezone is repaired. To remove the ERR messagefrom the display, just turn the dial or pushany button.Self-Diagnostic Electronic ShortCircuit ProtectionNo fuses to worry about; only faultystations stop wateringThe Pro-C automatically skips shortedstations allowing the rest of the systemto operate as normal. The self-diagnosticelectronic short circuit protection system isvery beneficial to the user because of its abilityto aid in identifying field wiring problems. It is almost as if the controller can troubleshoot the system itself.3

FEATURES AND BENEFITS (continued)Intuitive Dial ProgrammingFor easy program entryFor contractors and homeowners alike, thePro-C provides step by step programming. No complicated entry functions or repetitivekeystrokes. Just turn the dial to the sectionof the program that needs to be changed anduse the plus, minus and next buttons to makethe adjustments. No other programmingmethod is easier.3 Programs (A, B, C) withMultiple Start TimesDifferent watering requirements are metwith independent programmingThe Pro-C allows for many differentirrigation applications using three completelyindependent programs. This is ideal forvarious types of plants that have separatewatering day requirements. Each program hasthe ability to water up to four start times perday. The user has complete flexibility withwatering schedules for new seed or sod lawns, multiple cycles for low infiltration-rate soils, slopes, morning or evening irrigation and otherwatering window restrictions.Up to Six-hour Station Run TimesAllows accurate watering for all types ofplant materialRemovable Front Panel forRemote ProgrammingSet the controller up without having tostand in front of itA removable hinge designallows easy removal ofthe front panel withoutdisturbing field wiring. With the use of a 9-voltbattery, you can set theprogram away from thecabinet location. Thistimesaving feature allows the contractor toprogram before going out to the job (alsoserves as a great sales demo when talking to apotential client). The contractor can also givethe homeowner the front panel while the jobis being installed to allow the homeowner totry the programming functions early on. Whenit comes time to actually set up the controller, the homeowner is completely clued in, makingthe whole programming process a verysimple one.4Each station will operate up to six hours of runtime in any or all three programs. Run timesfrom 0-120 minutes program in one-minuteincrements and then in ten-minute incrementsup to six hours. The factory default for allstations is set at 0 minutes to eliminate anyunneeded stations before programming.Note: Using the water budget feature, stationrun times may only be increased to amaximum of 6 hours.Choice of Independent DayScheduling OptionsDays of the week or 31-day interval formaximum flexibilityThe watering dayschedules in programsA, B or C may be set upindependently from eachother. In each program, the choice of Custom (dayof the week), Interval (up to 31-days), Odd orEven days may be selected. This allows theuser to water on certain days of the week suchas Monday, Wednesday and Friday or water ona repeating day cycle (Interval) such as everythird day, or odd/even days in any or all threeof the programs.

Pro-C Controller365-day Calendar with LeapYear IntelligenceTrue odd or even day programmingIn many areas of the United States, summerwater rationing is a way of life. With its365-day, leap year intelligent calendar thePro-C makes programming true Odd/Even daywatering possible, automatically correcting for31-day months. Interval or Day of the Weekscheduling is possible as well, to cover anywatering day restrictions that may be enacted.Superior Surge ProtectionAll microcircuits are protected fromelectrical spikes/lightningThe Pro-C is equipped with electroniccomponents called MOVs (Metal-OxideVaristor). These MOVs are designed to shuntelectrical surges away from microcircuitsthrough the controllerʼs grounding circuit. The Pro-C uses theseMOVs to protect thecontroller from minorpower surges comingin through the primary(110/230VAC) inputside and also thesecondary output side(24VAC).Global Water Budget/SeasonalAdjustmentChanging run times could not be easier, from 10% to 150%The water budget/seasonal adjustment settingallows the user to make global changes to therun times of each zone from 10-150 percentof the original programmed run time in 10percent increments. This feature is perfect formaking small changes that are necessary asthe weather changes, without reprogrammingthe entire controller. A unique bar graph(thermometer display) in the large LCDdisplay lets the programmer know at a glancewhat percent from the original settings thecontroller is operating the station run times. The ability to immediately view the recalculated run times for each of the zonesis another unique feature built into theseasonal adjustment.Note: The controller should always be initiallyprogrammed in the seasonal adjustmentin the 100% position.MetalOxideVaristorsNote:For proper results, the ground circuit mustmeasure 10 ohms or less.5

FEATURES AND BENEFITS (continued)Weather Sensor CompatibleBuilt-in bypass switch eliminatesextra wateringThe Pro-C allows easy connection of anyrain or weather sensor device includingthe Hunter Rain-Clik , along with otherHunter sensors. With the sensor circuit on thecontroller, wiring is fast and easy. Thereʼs abuilt-in bypass switch to turn off the sensorfor maintenance. Best of all, the controller willdisplay Sen Off in the LCD display indicatingwhen the sensor is interrupting irrigation. In allcases, use of the sensor does notalter any programmed wateringschedule. The hookup is assimple as removing the jumperthat is attached across the SENterminals of the controller andRain-Clik connecting the sensor wires tothe terminals.Programmable Event Day(s) OffMaximum versatility when keeping thewater off is importantNeed to make certain that the controller doesnot water on a specific day or days of theweek? The Pro-C handles this task with ease. When Interval programming has been selectedas the Day Schedule this event day offprogramming overrides the interval functionto keep the controller always off on the day(s)selected. For example, an interval programis scheduled to water every third day butSaturdays have been designated as a “mowday,” so no watering can occur. Under theEvent Day Off selection, Saturdays can beturned off. Sports fields, community centers, schools and parks will find this feature satisfiestheir requirements in this regard.6One Touch Manual Start andRapid AdvanceSimple operation for a quickcheck of zonesThe One Touch Start andRapid Manual Advance featureincreases user-friendliness ofthe controller by using fewersteps to activate stations. Thisfeature is great for a quickcycle when extra watering isneeded or if you would like toscroll through the stations toinspect the system.Remote ReadyProvide your controller with simpleand reliable operation away from itsmounting locationThe Pro-C is remote ready! A SmartPort harness is supplied with the Pro-C controllerto permit the attachment of a Hunter SRR orICR remote receiver. The SRR remote controlis great for residential/light commercial sites, and offers features that other remotes canʼtat a price that canʼt be beat. The ICR remotecontrol provides the installer maximum rangecapability (up to 2 miles) for large commercialsites. These easy to install remotes can savetime and money by allowing remote valveoperation away from the controller.

Pro-C ControllerHeavy-Duty CabinetBuilt to overcome the elements—for a long timeProgrammable Delay Between StationsSlow closing valves and well recovery willnever be an issueThe Pro-C is built using a robust heavy-dutyplastic UL listed and NEMA 3R rated cabinet, which is not subject to UV degradation orcolor changes. For faster installation, thecabinet door hinge pin is removable when thedoor is unlocked and open. In addition, thecabinet uses the same professional key lockon the outdoor model as the Hunter ICCcommercial controller. The Pro-C cabinet isalso designed with a ¾"-1" knockout optionon the back of the cabinet, and a 1" openingfor low voltageand a ½" openingfor high voltagein the bottom ofthe cabinet toaccommodate thewiring needs ofany job.A programmable delay between stations solvesthe problem of slow closing valves because ofa hydraulic overload condition. The delay alsosolves the problem of a system operating off ofa slow filling well, allowing the well to recoverbetween zones. The Pro-Cʼs programming willallow it to fit into any situation where a delayis necessary, as the delay is programmable upto four hours. Delays from 0 to 60 seconds areallocated in 5-second increments and then upto 4 hours in 1-minute increments. Note: If theMV circuit is programmed to operate on thezone, it will stay hot for the first minute of anyprogrammed delay.Programmable0-7 Day Rain DelayNo need to return to the controllerto turn it back onThe Pro-C allows you to turn off thecontroller for a predetermined period oftime (1-7 days) during rainy weather. Allprograms are affected, as this delay is global. After the specified period has elapsed, thecontroller will return to automatic mode andwater as scheduled. This delay feature is veryconvenient because when the controller isturned off for an event such as rain or a socialactivity, the operator will not have to make atrip to the site to reactivate the controller. Inresidential systems, when the operator uses thewatering delay featurethereʼs no need to worryabout remembering thatthe controller has beenturned off.7

FEATURES AND BENEFITS (continued)Pump Start/MV Circuit,Programmable By StationActivate a pump or master valveonly when neededA programmable pump start circuit canactivate a pump relay or master valve byindividual zone. For systems that requireonly certain zones to receive a boost inpressure from a pump (such as rotor zones)this programmable MV circuit feature is theperfect solution, since it allows the pump toonly operate when needed.Internal Junction Box(on Outdoor Model Only)Primary power connection madeinside the controllerNo extra trips to the distributor for a forgottenelectrical box. The Pro-C comes with aprimary power junction box built inside thecabinet. Installation time is reduced because aJ-Box does not have to be fitted and screweddown tight. All that is required for properinstallation is electrical conduit.InternalJ-Box24VAC Valve TestEasy arrangement of zones duringwire hookupWhen wiring up the controller so numberedirrigation zones will run in sequential order, installers find that an “always on” 24VACvalve test terminal post simplifies this process.Touching the valve wire to a hot 24 voltterminal to determine numbered zones withouthaving to program a ʻmanual startʼ in thecontroller makes wire installation quickand efficient.8Primary Voltage Source ChoicesIndoors or outdoors, operates off a varietyof power sourcesPro-C models can be supplied with a115VAC/60 Hz transformer for domestic useor a 230VAC/50 Hz transformer for international use. This versatile transformer selectionenables users to install the Pro-C anywhere inthe world.AM/PM or 24 Hour Clock SettingsChoose your favorite methodof timekeepingOperating the controller in eitherAM/PM mode or in 24-Hourmode is selectable by the user. The Pro-C allows the user topick the time format that is mostdesirable. Wherever you are in theworld, the Pro-C can operate underlocal time keeping preferences.Single Station Manual StartIf all that is needed is a little extra on asingle zone! Many times throughout the year and for manyreasons (e.g., watering fertilizer or pesticidesinto the soil, spot seeding), the user will wantto add extra water to a particular zone. Withsingle station manual start, the Pro-C is ableto accomplish that task. Just turn the dial toManual-One Station, use the arrow buttonto move to the desired station, then turn thedial to the Run position. The user may alsoincrease or decrease the run time settingif preferred. After the zone is finished, thecontroller will return to automatic mode withits original schedule, even if modified for themanual operation.

Pro-C ControllerStart Time StackingPrevent hydraulic overloadPreventing hydraulic overload is veryimportant when designing irrigation systems, especially residential ones. All electroniccontrollers such as the Pro-C allow the user toinput start times into the programs that couldcause the controller to overlap station runtimes. This occurs when the station run timesadd up to more minutes than the amount oftime programmed between the start times. Inthe Pro-C, the start times will stack and notbegin to actually water until the previous starttime has completed its run through of all zonesprogrammed. This great feature will eliminatethe possibility of more than one zone operatingat a time, causing the system to perform poorlywhen water pressure and flow are minimal.Multi-language CapabilityUser friendly in all parts of the worldThe Pro-C line is available as a multi-languagecontroller family. Separate customization kitsare available in Spanish (INT-451), French(INT-452), Italian (INT-453), and German(INT-454). These kits include an ownerʼsoperation manual, door instruction card anda faceplate overlay that replaces the Englishversion included with the controller.Assign Zones to Any or All ProgramsComplete versatility for anywatering requirementAny station can be assigned to any orall programs in the Pro-C, making thePro-C a truly versatile controller. This featureallows zones to have more than one wateringschedule if required by the landscape.Automated Chronological Ordering ofStart TimesNo more “phantom” starts! When more than one start time is enteredinto a program, in any order of sequence, the Pro-C automatically shifts the start timesin ascending order from the earliest start timeto the latest start time. The Pro-C will alsoshift or “rubber band” the start times if timeswere inadvertently added after empty starttime slots. The controller will fill the start #1slot first, and then the #2 slot second, andso on making it easier for the user to checkall times. No “phantom” starts will occur froman unknown start time buried deep inthe program.Operate Three 7.2 VA SolenoidsSimultaneouslyAble to accommodate larger watervolume systemsThe Pro-C has the power capacity to operateup to three 7.2 VA solenoids simultaneously. There are times when the need to operate twovalve solenoids off of one station terminal (andone solenoid on the pump start/MV terminal)is required. This type of operation may be theresult of reduced watering windows, a retrofitwith a city water system switching over to awater well system, or low volume (drip) zonesadded to regular zones. Whatever the reasonmay be, the Pro-C can handle it.9

FEATURES AND BENEFITS (continued)Easy Access Wire CompartmentSimplified wire hookupsThe Pro-C permits fast and easy connectionof wiring in the spacious wiring compartment. With the sturdy terminal block, the wirecan be insertedwithout bending forsimplified installation. The primaryterminal block hasdedicated terminalscrews for both asensor hookup and a24VAC connectionfor accessories. Each terminal willaccommodate two20-12 gauge wires.Upgrade to Centralized ControlNetwork through IMMS to makeprogramming changes and monitorsystem conditions from your computerThe Pro-C can be networked to your computerthrough the Hunter Irrigation Management andMonitoring System (IMMS). The IMMSallows the user to program controller functionsthat would typically be handled directly ateach controller. Scheduling days to water, runtimes, start times and more can be done froma single computer at a desk miles away fromthe installation. A key function of the IMMS isits ability to monitor changing conditions withthe aid of such options as flow sensors, rainsensors, and other weather-sensing devices. Nosystem available today is more cost effectivethan the Hunter IMMS. Best of all it is able toteam with any or all of the Hunter controllers, including the Pro-C.10Test ProgramSimple test program feature allows forquick system checksThe Pro-C has a built-in test program featurethat allows the user to run all stations for apredetermined number of minutes. This featureis great for conducting a quick system checkon all zones or to activate valves duringwinterization. The one button activation and single runtime entry makes the test program simple andeasy to use.
