LIGHTNING RIDGE CENTRAL SCHOOLPrincipal: Mr Kerry AdamthwaiteDeputy Principal: Mrs Margaret MorrissPO Box 294, Kaolin StreetLightning Ridge NSW 2834T 02 68290511F 02 68290137E lightningr-c.school@det.nsw.edu.auTerm 2 , Week 6 2018Principal’s ReportThis week our focus has been on reconciliation. All of ourclasses have had information on the theme of reconciliationincluded in all of their class programs. It’s important toremember that we live in a multicultural society and that itneeds to be peaceful and inclusive and one the messages ofreconciliation week is that we should treat every member ofour community as a valued friend no matter what their race. One of the great things about Lightning Ridge Central School is that ourstudents are truly inclusive. Like many in our community our students are notinterested in race or religion, only what an individual is like as a person. Goodpeople who try to do the right thing by others are treated with respect andfriendship and, if having difficulty themselves, are offered support and aassistance by many others. As adults, teachers and support staff try to model appropriate behaviour forstudents every single day but during reconciliation week it has become a veryhot topic.I’d like to thank Chris Murray who had the inspiration and then with his dedicatedteam of assistants helped to make our living sculpture of the reconciliation weeklogo into a reality on our school’s Primary Oval. I’d also like to thank MitchMcCabe who filmed the event and then, with his team of helpers, gave up theirtime to put together an excellent short film of the event. I hope to have the filmon our website and Facebook page for everyone to see.We also had our 7-10 Exams it was really great to see an increasing number ofstudents taking the exams very seriously and trying to do their best. Thestudents, the teachers and the support staff all put a lot of effort into learning inthe first half of this year and it’s really good to see some of the fantastic resultsbeing achieved by our kids this year. Some of our students have made such incredible gains this year that theirparents will be incredibly proud of their efforts when the reports come home.In particular I’d like to commend most of the students in our Stage 4project-based class, their hard-working teachers and Heidi who have been ableto transform the learning outcomes of some of our students. It just goes to show that Ridge Kids Can Do Anything. We have had people from the Walgett Shire Council and the RMS looking at thesafety of our students in the bus bay. Principal’s Report continued.some changes to signage, so keep an eye out for that. In the long term some major changes to the wayour bus bay is configured will happen to make it easier for buses to enter and leave and also for parents todrop students off at school. I look forward to those changes being put in place.Last weekend was a mid-term break and it was a great opportunity for parents to take their children awayfor medical, dental or optical appointments, simply visit friends or do some shopping that can’t be done inLightning Ridge. I know many of our staff took the opportunity to visit loved ones who live a long way awayor to book in medical appointments for services not available in town. It’s a great opportunity to point out that your children and our staff have about 15 minutes each day extralearning time to make up for the time lost during mid-term break. If parents had to take their students out of class to attend appointments or if teachers had to miss teachingtheir classes to attend appointments it would have significant detrimental effect on learning in our school. For both students and teachers Every Day Counts which is why we work extra every day to have amid-term break. If you would like to discuss anything mentioned in this newsletter or any other matters please feel free to come in and have a chat.Parents and community members are always welcome however; it is wise to make an appointment beforehand to avoid having towait.Deputy Principal’s ReportTuesday 26th June– please save the date this will be our Parent Teacher evening.Simply ring the office to make an appointment, your child’s report will be handed out atthe same time. This is a great opportunity to come along and get an update on yourchild’s progress. It is important that students are at school Every Day and on time (8:40am) Every Day.Learning begins at 8:40 and some students are missing out on important information, activities and skilldevelopment.Students should be in school uniform Every Day. Our P&C have requested that all students be in schooluniform Every Day. There are some students who wear a range of coloured jumpers and jackets– pleaseorganise for your child to wear either a plain black or red jumper/jacket.Every Day students must bring books, pens and their charged laptop. Those students who don’t bringtheir equipment are at a disadvantage. Make sure your child is equipped to get on with their learning sothey are able to work towards achieving their goals. So PLEASE take the time to ask your children if theyhave books and pens and do they take their laptop to school Every Day and lastly get them out of bedand to school on time.P&CUNIFORM SHOPOpen Monday’s andThursday’s8:30am - 9am
