Early Open EnrollmentGranite School District provides school choice enrollment in all schools where space isavailable. Parents are responsible for transportation when exercising school choice.Open Enrollment is necessary for students to attend a school other than their homeboundary school. There are two open enrollment periods: Early Open Enrollment andLate Open Enrollment. The Early Open Enrollment period is the recommended time toenroll for the next school year. Late Open Enrollment period for the current year and maybe applied for at any time.Early Open Enrollment period for the 2018-2019 school year begins on Friday, December1, 2017 and ends on Friday, February 16, 2018.Open Enrollment Applications are available at all schools and are processed inthe order received.Student residing within Granite School District boundaries are given priority. Enrollmentdepends on space available in the requested grade, class, or program. Open Enrollmentrequests do not require a release from the student’s home school or district. The application process is initiated at the REQUESTED school. A one-time, nonrefundable 5.00 processing fee, payable to the requested school, may be charged at thetime the application is submitted. This fee can be waived for qualified applicants. Each application will be screened and considered on an individual basis on availablespace by building, grade, class, or program. Applications may be denied to those whohave committed serious infractions of the law or school rules or have been guilty ofchronic misbehavior. Academic standing cannot be used for enrollment exclusion. Astudent may be excluded from open enrollment if the school has enrollment above theopen enrollment threshold. If your student is accepted for Open Enrollment, annual reapplication is not required –providing that the student remains in the same school and space is available. When astudent transitions from elementary school to junior high or from junior high to highschool, there is no automatic feeder system for Open Enrollment: therefore, reapplicationis necessary to attend a school outside of the student’s home boundary school.Applications are considered and granted o n an individual basis with no state or impliedguarantee to siblings. However, Granite School District will consider and try toaccommodate applicants who have a sibling in their requested school or district. UtahHigh School Activities Association guidelines and policies will be followed for studentswho want to participate in interscholastic competitions. For more detailed information, refer to the back of the Open Enrollment Applicationor Granite School District’s website: www.graniteschools.org; select Departments Prevention and Student Placement Open Enrollment Guidelines.
