Education CentersWestmoreland maintains education centers that serve all of Westmoreland, Fayette and Indiana counties. Day and evening classes areconducted at Bushy Run, Export; Fayette, Uniontown; Indiana, Indiana; Latrobe, Latrobe; and New Kensington, New Kensington. Inaddition, online courses are offered to students at these sites. Student services such as counseling, advising and financial aid are alsoavailable at scheduled times. Students can also pay tuition and fees and purchase textbooks at the centers.Bushy RunBushy Run is located at 6707 Mellon Road near Murrysville. AdmissionsHigh school graduates or those who hold a GED high school equivalency are granted admission to the college. Individuals 18 years ofage and older who have not earned a high school diploma or a GED may be admitted to the college if they can demonstrate their abilityto benefit from the college experience. After successfully completing 30 credits at Westmoreland, they may be eligible to petition for aCommonwealth Secondary School Diploma. Forms for Commonwealth Secondary School Diplomas are available at the Department ofEducation, GED, Harrisburg.Requirements for Admission1.2.3.4.If you are a new student, submit the online Application for Admission at westmoreland.edu. If you have previously attendedWestmoreland for college credit, then please contact the Student Records office to update your academic record.Upon receipt of the Application for Admission, the AdmissionsOffice will send information on placement assessment and registration.Take the placement assessment and register for classes.Submit transcripts.A. First-time college students: request your high schooltranscript be sent to Westmoreland (includes homeschool).B. GED students: request GED scores to be sent toWestmoreland.C. While still in high school, students can complete up to 30semester hours of general education coursework or even earn acollege certificate by enrolling in regularly scheduled online and/or on-campus courses at Westmoreland. Students considering theEarly College Program must be in their junior or senior year of highschool, have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale,and meet the college’s requirements for entry into the course.Dual EnrollmentStudents can receive college credit for specific classes withouteven leaving high school. Unlike the Early College Program,students take dual enrollment classes in their regular school withhigh school teachers who have been certified to teach the course.This program allows high school students to fit college coursesinto a busy schedule while taking classes in a familiar environment.Interested students must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and meet thecollege’s requirements for entry into the course. AdmissionsSOARSOAR (Students Occupationally and AcademicallyReady) is a career and technical educational planthat prepares students for college and careers in a diverse, highperforming workforce through articulation with the PennsylvaniaDepartment of Education and local Career and TechnologyCenters (CTC). Students who have completed their Programof Study at a CTC with a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade pointaverage are eligible for college credit for up to three years aftergraduating from high school. Students interested in this programare encouraged to work with their CTC teachers to complete theofficial POS paperwork.The SOAR logo on an academic program description in thiscatalog indicates that for that degree, the college offers toaward free college credit to qualifying graduates of Pennsylvaniasecondary Career and Technical Programs of Study accordingto a statewide articulation agreement with the PennsylvaniaDepartment of Education (PDE). Under these Perkins IV StatewideArticulation Agreements, the college will award college creditsto students who have met all of the criteria for qualification andhave submitted all required documentation under the terms andconditions of the agreement.
