MARYLAND AMBULATORY SURGERYPROVIDER DIRECTORY2013The 2013 edition of the Maryland Ambulatory Surgery Provider Directory is thesixteenth edition of the Directory compiled by the Maryland Health Care Commission. Thisedition of the Directory contains data for the 2012 calendar year based on surveys of: (1) “Ambulatorysurgical facilities” defined in Maryland regulation as outpatient surgical facilities with two or moreoperating rooms; (2) other freestanding (not hospital-based) facilities with ambulatory surgical capacitybut no more than one sterile operating room; and (3) hospital-based ambulatory surgery services. TheDirectory provides a uniform data set for ambulatory surgical facilities for use by the Commission, healthcare providers, policy makers, health insurers, the public and other interested organizations. A list ofproviders by jurisdiction, information on specialties, and a list of freestanding facilities with hospital orhealth system affiliations are provided in the Directory. A statistical profile of ambulatory surgery inMaryland summarizes key data for 2012 and provides trend data on ambulatory surgery facilities,utilization, and revenues. Also included is a list of facilities that closed during the 2012 survey year andthe number of projected facility openings, by jurisdiction, for 2013. NOTES The number of operating rooms published in this Directory reflects data reported to theCommission in the 2012 Maryland Freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Facility Survey. Thenumber of hospital operating rooms comes from a separate survey, sent to each acute carehospital in June of the survey year. The information and data in this Directory are reported for calendar years. Where N/A is reported, the data is either “not applicable” or “not available.” Reported hospital cases reflect outpatient ambulatory surgery cases and do not includeinpatient cases. It is a report of cases that were performed in rooms of any type, i.e., sterileoperating rooms and non-sterile procedure rooms.Source: HSCRC Outpatient Data Set, 2012CHANGES TO MARYLAND HOSPITAL NAMES/HEALTH SYSTEM AFFILIATIONSIn 2013 two acute care general hospitals joined Health Systems. MedStar acquired oneadditional hospital during this time, and the University of Maryland Medical Systemacquired one acute care general hospital. Additionally, effective July 1, 2013, theUniversity of Maryland Medical System changed the names of previously acquiredhospitals. Profiles included in the following report utilize the “new” names of the acutecare general hospitals.
