Led by JosephB. Reilly, the Twentieth Anniversary CapitalCampaign raised a total of 845,968 to supportthe purchase and renovation of NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire’s new offices andhomeownership center on Elm Street in downtown Manchester, exceeding the campaign goalof 815,000 in less than one year.Gary Chicoine, Joseph B. Reilly & John MaddenA total of 145 gifts were made to the campaign, representing contributions from individuals, foundations, corporations and small businesses. All of the contributions to the campaign areoffsetting costs associated with purchasing the building and renovating the second floor space for thehomeownership program and staff offices. The reception celebrated the success of the campaign and provided an opportunity for guests tosee the space fully finished, with signage in place. Remarks were made by Joseph B. Reilly, CarolWilloughby, Campaign Leadership Committee member and Chair of the Board of Directors; andRobert Tourigny, Executive Director.Prior to purchasing the downtown building, NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire hadmoved a total of six times in our twenty year history, each time adapting less than ideal spaceto accommodate our program and staff needs. We finally have the space we need to deliver ourhomeownership services most effectively in the Manchester region and accommodate organizationstaffing. Our purchase of the building also has brought economic development to the downtownarea as we are fully utilizing second floor commercial space, and have brought two qualitybusinesses that were not previously present in the downtown area on the Elm Street storefront level.continued on page 2Matthew Kfoury& Carol WilloughbyPauline Ikawa, Patrick Smith &Robert TourignyRobert Dastin & Kimon Zachospage 1

Hall Family Finds New Home, Community, at Hidden PondMy heart was pounding for three days afterwards, it was adream come true, was Amherst tenant Brenda Hall’s reactionto the news her application had been accepted and she wouldbe moving in to the newly developed Hidden Pond Apartments inAmherst. After unsuccessfully vying for a spot in the Abingdon SquareApartments in Goffstown, the New Hampshire native spoke with staffat Stewart Property Management, the property manager for rentalproperties owned by NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire, about an alternative. They told her about a new development inAmherst, and that there was one spot left. After touring the new development and speaking with the propertymanagers and her potential neighbors, she knew it was for her. A singlemother of three, she was ready to be in a more suburban setting, whileremaining close to the urban amenities she also enjoys. It was not all good news, however. The representative she was workingwith at Stewart Property Management informed her the last unit hadgone to another family. “My heart sunk,” she said. That was until a few days later, when Fatima, her contact at StewartProperty Management, called back. “She said the family in the unit Ilooked at backed out, and she asked if I was still interested,” Brendarecounted. “I couldn’t believe it, and I said I would bring the depositright over.” She then drove back to Amherst to make the deposit, andafter the completion of the necessary paperwork, she found herself aproud member of the Hidden Pond community. The Hall family is proud of their new home and their new community.“I love the community here, everybody knows everybody, and they arevery welcoming too,” she says. She has always tried to be involved in her community. She worked at the Manchester Police Department, and earned her MBAfrom Southern New Hampshire University at the same time. After a crisis in her family disrupted her life, Brenda left the PoliceDepartment and picked up some work at Saint Anselm Library, all the while searching for affordable housing in a more suburbanenvironment. Getting out of the city was a priority for her and her boys, as her youngest has a disability and benefits from being in amore country setting.Brenda continues to work rush hours at Saint Anselm College, where she is pursuing employment on a permanent basis. Currently, she supplements her income by working for a Multi-Level Marketing company, but she is also looking for other ways to get involved inher community.“Volunteering would be very rewarding, I know you can volunteer at the library, the Police Department, and the town hall doingadministrative tasks,” Brenda enthused. She is excited to bring her experience to her new town, and though she has spent less than sixmonths in Amherst, she already feels at home. Her son Christian just started playing baseball for his school, and her youngest, Jakob, has thoroughly enjoyed learning Spanish at the town library.Annual Meeting 2014On April 23, the NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire staff, its Board of Directors and Trustees assembled with otherdonors, volunteers and business partners at Fratello’s Restaurant in Manchester for the organization’s Annual Meeting. Wethank Public Service of New Hampshire for generously sponsoring this breakfast meeting. To take a look at the presentation, please go online to www.nwsnh.org/about/videogallery.page 3
