Business Intelligence & Analyticsas a ServiceWarehouse logistics

Business Intelligence & AnalyticsBusiness IntelligenceAnalyticsBusiness Intelligence(BI) incorporates thecollection, storage, elaboration and analysisof data, as a form ofsupport for businessdecisionsAnalytics represent theanalytical steps andinstruments necessaryto conduct BIWarehousing BIWarehousing BI is aseries of activities usedto convert dataoriginating fromKPI, alerting, forecasting warehouses intoinformation which isFrom data to information modelsuseful for businesslogistics decisions2-----

The project: areas of analysisProductivity and Quality3 Productivity represents the area ofanalysis used to assess the output ofwarehouse operators and theirproductivity based upon an hourlybasis. Principal KPIs are calculated on thebasis of the times indicated for eachassignment and for the movementand equipping of warehouseoperators. The quantities moved byeach operator are also indicated. Quality represents the area ofanalysis used to monitor thebreakage and loss of objects andinefficient operations. Principal KPIs are calculated uponmeasuring the number of objects(packages and items) broken or lost.Other KPIs indicate the number ofspecific operations considered to beinefficient (eg. quota picking).ProductivityQuality

The project: areas of analysisGoods in Stock & Space Focus on analysis of goods in stockand space is used to monitor thesaturation of space withinwarehouses. Principal KPIs indicate thepercentage of saturation, measuredin terms of the compartments, spaces and volumes within eachwarehouse. Other KPIs are used tomeasure quantities in terms ofpackages, pallets, loading units andquintals of stock in each warehouse.Goods inStock & Space4

The project: areas of analysisLifecyle of Orders and LUs Analysis of orders and documentsis generally intended for theassessment of order dispatchtimes. Principal KPIs are used to measurethe duration of each phase orphases of the order dispatchprocess. These times are thencompared with estimated times inorder to assess time discrepenciesand relative punctuality.Orders5 Analysis of LUs is intended for themonitoring of the loading unitlifecycle. Principal KPIs are used to measurethe duration of the various phasesof the Loading Unit lifecycle, whichare then compared with the variousestimated times, in order to assessthe efficiency and punctuality of theprocesses.LU (LoadingUnit)

Definition of Analytics-----“Analytics is the process of obtaining an optimal orrealistic decision based on existing data”6

AnalyticsSummary indicators of the phenomena anddimensions of interest available in the database orcalculated by the user.Traffic light mechanisms which promptly indicatewhen predetermined or definable safety thresholdsare exceeded. The possibility to simulate scenarios and objectivesdepending on the conditions selected by the user, for the purpose of optimising the use of resourcesand supporting business decisions.7

Alerting and What If (1/2)ProductivityoWhat IfooooAlerting8How can resources be best distributed inorder to reduce waiting times? How would productivity levels benefit fromthe improved allocation of items incompartments? How many units need to be added to theworkforce in order to facilitate increasedproductivity? How would the productivity rate vary ifmovement times were reduced? What would be the impact of a reduction inresources in terms of hourly productivity?Operator activity monitoringQualityooooWhat advantages would be gained interms of productivity by optimising andreducing inefficient activities? What impact would the reduction orzeroing of inefficient activities have onthe number of resources required? What advantages would a reducednumber of breakages have on thegeneral qualitative index? What advantages would the eliminationof defects in the checking process havein terms of operator productivity?Timely and focused studies in order tounderstand the reason for anomalies suchas:o decline in the quality of an operator’sworko incorrect displacement of goods incompartments

Alerting and What If (2/2)Goods in Stock & SpaceWhat If Map simulation of goods in eachcompartment and assessment of relativeefficiency based on:o various distribution of goods duringstorage/exit phaseo optimisation of work and workerassignmentso optimised distribution of resourceso forecast of time savings and increasein productivity subsequent toimproved organisation of spaceAlerting9Assessment of warehouse stock levelsOrders and LUso How would an increase in qualifiedstaff numbers benefit the respectof planned times?o How would improved operatorproductivity benefit the punctualityof order dispatches?o How would more efficientmanagement of LUs benefit therespect of planned times?o By how much would thepunctuality rate increase as aresult of compressed waitingtimes?Monitoring instances where the maximumtimes foreseen for each phase are exceeded.
