Hebel - Betterfor building inbushfire zones

BUILDING WITH HEBEL IN BUSHFIRE ZONESBushfires are a fact of Australian life. When building ina bushfire zone, the most important consideration is thechoice of building materials. Hebel is the top choice whenbuilding your home in a bushfire zone. All Hebel productshave exceptional fire properties and meet or exceedthe requirements for all six Bushfire Attack Level (BAL)categories, making it the better choice for building in abushfire prone area.HEBEL AAC(AUTOCLAVED CONCRETE)Hebel AAC is a solid masonry productthat is versatile enough to be used forexternal and internal walls, floors, decks and fencing. All products arenon-combustible and won’t explode, even under extreme heat. Providingsolid construction, Hebel deliversthe right balance between thermalinsulation and mass-making it a betterchoice for building in a bushfireprone area.Architect:EcologieGroupEcologieGroupOver the past 20 years, Hebel hasdeveloped a full range of solidand lightweight framed buildingsystems with high resistance, offering assurance and addedsecurity for homeowners ofbushfire prone properties.Cover: Solar Solutions DesignSolar Solutions Design

Solar Solutions DesignHEBEL POWERPANEL XLHEBEL POWERBLOCK Hebel PowerPanel XL external wall system has beenspecifically developed to provide a secure solid masonryfacade that goes up fast.Solid masonry construction has long been regarded asthe ‘ultimate’ home building method. Hebel PowerBlock is the ideal alternative to double brick, providing anextremely solid construction with an amazing FireResistance Level (FRL) of 240/240/240 as well asexceptional acoustic and thermal insulation properties. The system consists of 75mm thick, steel-reinforcedPowerPanel XL panels, fixed vertically to steel horizontal tophats attached to the load-bearing timber or steel frame. The face size of a PowerBlock is 600mm x 200mm.External walls are typically constructed using 250mmthick Hebel PowerBlock whilst internal non-loadbearingwalls generally use the 100mm PowerBlock . The largeformat blocks are lightweight and, forming a single wall, are rapidly installed. A Hebel PowerBlock home is anincredibly comfortable living environment.Hebel PowerPanel XL combined with the perforatedsteel top hat and hex head fixing system, speeds up theinstallation process. It is ideal for houses and low-rise multi-residentialapplications, including extensions and re-cladding ofexisting homes. Hebel PowerPanel XL is easy to install ontwo-storey dwellings.PowerBlock together with Hebel PowerFloor forsuspended floors comply with the requirements for allsix BAL zones when constructed in accordance withHebel’s Design and Installation guides. You’ll love the rendered finish, clean architectural lines anddesign flexibility of Hebel. With Hebel you’ll achieve the extracomfort of a masonry home that’s better to live in and asustainable choice compared to bricks.PowerPanel XL is non-combustible system with an FRLof 180/180/180 and is termite resistant.Hebel framed constructionHebel solid constructionTimber or steel frameTop hatHebel PowerPanelHebel PowerBlock XLHebel SillBuilding wrap3 Coat Dulux texturecoating systemHebel Mortar on dampproof courseDamp proof course3 Coat Dulux texturecoating systemConcrete slabConcrete slab

HEBEL POWERFLOORPowerFloor is a highly versatile solid platform flooringsystem that gives you the feel of a concrete floor at asignificantly lower cost. PowerFloor is an ideal choice forfirst floor and suspended ground floors, as well as decksand balconies. Installed over conventional joists, thesystem of 75mm thick steel reinforced tongue and groovePowerFloor panels fit snugly together to form a strong, smooth floor.Hebel PowerFloor can be covered in a rangeof floor coverings. Decks must be tiled.Note: Please refer to the Houses, Low-rise,Multi-residential and Commercial FloorsDesign and Installation Guide for floorcovering details. It is simple and fast to install with less mess than pouringconcrete and has a superior solid feel compared toparticleboard and timber flooring.Hebel PowerFloor is the creak free solid alternative toparticle board, reducing sound transmission betweenfloors and eliminates the squeaking, bouncing and noiseoften associated with timber flooring substrates. It iseasily installed by on-site trades, such as carpenters, sothere are no delays to the building schedule.Screw fixing tosuite joist typeJoists (timberor steel)Hebel AdhesiveConstruction adhesive installedto manufacturers specificationsThe PowerFloor system is non-combustible and has provenfire resistant levels up to 240 minutes from above.BUSHFIRE ZONE REQUIREMENTSDefinition of BAL LevelsAustralian Standard AS3959-2009, Construction ofbuildings in bushfire-prone areas was introduced in 2009to improve the resistance of buildings to bushfire attackfrom burning embers, radiant heat, flame contact andcombinations of the three attack forms. The standardincludes a methodology for assessing categories of bushfireattack, called Bushfire Attack Levels (BAL), in respect ofa site situated in an area that has been designated by arelevant authority as bushfire-prone. A building surveyorwill use the BAL to check compliance with the constructionrequirements of the standard. All building approvals issuedin designated bushfire prone zones MUST build to BAL12.5 standards as a minimum, even if the site specific BALassessment is LOW. If it is above BAL 12.5 then the buildingmust be treated in line with the specific BAL range that itfalls into, as per AS3959:2009.Bushfire AttackLevel (BAL)Description of predicted BushfireAttack and levels of exposureBAL- LowThere is not sufficient risk to warrant exposureBAL-12.5Ember attackBAL- 19Increasing levels of ember attack and burningdebris ignited by windborne embers togetherwith increasing heat flux between 12.5 and19kW m2BAL-29Increasing levels of ember attack and burningdebris ignited by windborne embers together withincreasing heat flux between 19 and 29kW m2BAL- 40Increasing levels of ember attack and burningdebris ignited by windborne embers togetherwith increasing heat flux with the increasedlikelihood of exposure to flamesBAL-FZDirect exposure to flames from fire front inaddition to heat flux and ember attackHebel systems for each BAL LevelExternal WallsFloorsSubfloor SupportsVerandahs, decksHebel Block PowerPanelXL PowerFloor PowerFloor PowerBlock PowerFloor PowerFloor

A noncombustible material, Hebel block and panelsystems achieve Fire Resistance Levels(FRLs) from 60 minutes through to 240minutes (tested at CSIRO) and meet or exceedthe requirements for all six Bushfire AttackLevel (BAL) categories. When building withHebel, you’re building with peace-of-mindthat your home is safe and secure.COMFORTABLE LIVINGENVIRONMENTHebel panels have superiorinsulation qualities compared to othermasonry products. With better thermalresistance and thermal mass, Hebel is asmart choice for meeting Australia’s stringentbuilding regulations. And, for homeowners,it means there is less reliance on heaters orair conditioners – helping to save money andbeing kinder to the environment, too.HELIT064OCT15FASTER CONSTRUCTIONTIME & LOWER COSTSHebel is a strong and robustbuilding material that’s extremely costeffective. Given that Hebel panels can beeasily cut on-site using standard tools, construction times are slashed and there isless wastage. The result is lower labour costsand significant savings for the homeowner.BETTER ACOUSTICSHebel gives you more peaceand quiet. When compared topolystyrene and fibre cement externalwalls, and particleboard for flooring, Hebelsignificantly reduces sound transmissionbetween rooms and also reduces noise fromexternal sources such as traffic.AustralianDesignPROVEN ANDBACKED BY CSRHebel products and systemsare designed, developed and warranted inAustralia by CSR.
