Beard was elected as a Bishop in the North Central Jurisdictionon July 13, 2016. Prior to coming to The Illinois Great Rivers Conference, he servedas an ordained Elder in the Indiana Area of The United Methodist Church.Bishop Beard has a wealth of experience in a variety of ministry settings acrossThe United Methodist Church. He has served as a local church pastor, a DistrictSuperintendent, and as a Senior Pastor of a large congregation. He has served inpositions with the General Commission on General Conference, the General Boardof Higher Education and Ministry, and the General Board of Discipleship. He has alsoserved as a member of the National Black Methodist for Church Renewal.Bishop Beard is a gifted preacher and teacher and has a strong sense of community. He has a passion for Jesus Christ that is contagious. His primary focus isencouraging churches to be “on fire for Jesus.” His life quote is, “I want to be so full ofJesus that when a mosquito bites me it will fly away humming ‘there is power in theblood’!”Bishop Beard is married to wife Melissa, has two adult daughters: Eleanor &Emily, and will soon have three grandchildren. The Bishop is an avid Chicago BearsFan and an accomplished fisherman.
