Trinity TidingsAn Inviting Community Following Christ For LifeVolume 48, Issue 8September 2014FOR WE ARE GOD’S SERVANTS, WORKING TOGETHER; YOU AREGOD’S FIELD, GOD’S BUILDING. 1 CORINTHIANS 3:9The new Church year is upon us and it promises to be an amazing year atTrinity Presbyterian Church! As you read this, we are in the last stages ofour sanctuary refurbishment. During this program year, we will celebratethe 50th anniversary of our beautiful sanctuary and give thanks for theincredible work of our church family in beautifying our worship space. It isno exaggeration to say that our church members have given thousands ofhours to redoing our sanctuary. Many hands and hearts have been part ofthe labor. It has been a labor of love and has been a constant sign to me of what is adefinite part of Trinity's DNA. People have worked together to "build" awonderfully restored space for our worship. Now I know that I'm stretchingit to say build, but the reality is, many people have worked in the sanctuaryproject and given of their time, talent and energy for the good of all of us.That is the way Trinity works all the time: friends in Christ workingtogether for the glory of God. What we have been doing physically to ourplant is very much like what we do every year as a church family--we worktogether, building a family of faith through prayer and worship, study andmission. As we give thanks for the building we call our church home, we also beginanother year of building together our life in Christ. While not all of us havebeen able to paint or hang dry wall in the sanctuary, ALL OF US are able tobuild the family we call Trinity. As the new Church year begins, I pray thatwe will heed the Apostle Paul's words and continue to work together asGod's servants realizing that the building we are truly building is God's lifein our church. If you will join in that holy work, we will all have goodreason to be.Hoping Big,GregStaffPastor/Head of StaffThe Rev. Dr. GregoryC. FaulknerParish AssociateRev. Record Year for Trinity’s BarclayFarmstead Garden Plot!We have been blessed this year with beautiful growing weather and an amazing amount ofproduce which has been donated all summer to the Cherry Hill Food Pantry. As of August 15 thwe had given 516 tomatoes, 66 cucumbers and 29 peppers!! One week alone we took over167tomatoes! The Food Pantry is so grateful for our fresh produce to add to its clients‘ groceries.Due to the rain one week, some of the tomatoes were cracked, and we were hesitant to donatethem. But Janet Giordano, Food Pantry Director, said that people were so happy to get freshproduce, that a few cracks didn‘t matter to them. What a great mission this has been! Many thanks to our weekly Trinity garden volunteers: Sally Iacono, Karen Leonard Albrect,Mark Thuer, Melissa and Naomi Smith, Anyce and Mark Miles, Lydia Burgess, Elissa Goss,Nancy Valente, Janet Cohen, Bill and Karen Kain, Donna Croker, and Doug Gammie. Particularly with respect toIslam, how do we overcome the deep-seatedsuspicions and ignorance among many Christians andMuslims concerning one another? Perhaps a new wayof looking at the Bible can help to foster mutualunderstanding and cooperation.W. Eugene March―Who we are as a religious people is very much upfor grabs. If we are to move beyond the current statusquo. . .we will need to revisit our foundationaldocument, the Bible, in light of our new context. Withopen eyes and minds we need to reconsider if andhow the Bible can help us as we approach the issuesof diversity and pluralism.‖The ―new context‖ March is talking about is that it isonly in recent decades that western Christians havehad direct contact with people of other religioustraditions. Thus, questions about the ―truthfulness‖ ofnon-Christian religions are more relevant today thanthey have been in the past. For centuries the church has taught that faith in Christwas the only way to a relationship with God. Marchencourages readers to consider whether that is whatthe Bible actually teaches. He analyzes key passagesin the Bible to illustrate his point that there may bemany valid ways to consider who God is and to have10
