Speaker Bios:Dr. Anthony AnnettClimate Change and Sustainable Development AdvisorThe Earth Institute, Columbia University, and Religions for PeaceAnthony Annett is a Climate Change and Sustainable Development Advisor at theEarth Institute, Columbia University, and Religions for Peace. He works on theintersection of ethics and economics, and is a specialist in Catholic social teaching.He has acted as an informal consultant to the Pontifical Council for Justice andPeace, and co-authored the remarks delivered by Dr. Carolyn Woo at the launch ofthe encyclical, Laudato Si'. He also participated in on online course centered onLaudato Si', produced by the educational platform of the UN SustainableDevelopment Solutions Network at Columbia University. He received his Ph.D. from PrincetonUniversity, where he held fellowships from the Danforth and the WhitingFoundations. After taking teaching positions at Virginia Tech and the University ofVermont, he joined the UD faculty in 1985.As a scholar, Dr. Benson specializes in contemporary ethics and social philosophy,and has an international reputation for his research on personal autonomy. Prior tohis appointment as Interim Provost in July 2014, Dr. Benson served as Chair of the Department of Philosophy,Associate Dean, and Dean of the College of the College of Arts and Sciences. She has been involved with GreeND,Notre Dame's only environmental club, as well as Fossil Free ND since myfreshmen year. Although she has had a sustained passion for environmental justiceher entire life, she was able to discover the root of her passion through hereducation at Notre Dame. Environmental and climate justice are issues of socialjustice, and environmental degradation is degradation of human dignity. As amember of society and especially as a Catholic, she believes we are all called to actto uplift human dignity and alleviate human suffering. She pursues this goal throughher role as president of GreeND and actions with Fossil Free ND, and hopes toinspire others to lead meaningful change.

Dr. Ellen DorseyExecutive DirectorWallace Global FundEllen Dorsey is an impassioned advocate for international human rights andenvironmental sustainability. Since 2008, she has served as executive director ofthe Wallace Global Fund. Under her leadership, the Fund adopted a new approachintegrating grant making and investment strategies to promote its mission. Ellencame to the Fund from the Heinz Endowments, where she was the senior programofficer in the Environment Program. She previously served as Executive Director ofthe Rachel Carson Institute and Associate Professor at Chatham University andfounded the Human Rights and Environment Program of Amnesty International.She has served on the board of numerous non-profit organizations, including theUS Human Rights Network, Global Initiative on Economic and Social Rights,Shared Interest and Amnesty International USA, where she was Chair of the Board of Directors.Her educational career includes a doctorate in political science from the University of Pittsburgh and a FulbrightFellowship in South Africa during that country's historic transformation from Apartheid. Father Martin SolmaProvincialSociety of MaryMarianist Father Martin Solma, SM, 63, has served as provincial of the MarianistProvince of the United States since July 1, 2010. Fr. Martin's ministry experienceshave taken him from Kalamazoo to Kenya. He began his career teaching religiouseducation and English at Msgr. John Hackett High School in Kalamazoo, Mich.(1971-1975) and Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati (1979-1982). In 1982,Fr. Martin began more than 25 years of ministry in Eastern Africa. He first servedas assistant novice director at the Marianist novitiate in Ekpoma, Nigeria, andbecame director of the Marianist novitiate in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1985.Fr. Martin was appointed regional superior for Eastern Africa in 1992, a position heheld until 1998. He served five years (1999-2004) as director of the Marianist scholasticate in Nairobi before beingappointed to a three-year term as district superior of Eastern Africa in 2004. Fr. Martin served as manager of Our Ladyof Nazareth Primary School in Nairobi where he was actively involved in the school's development for more than 13years. OLN is a school for 1,900 children from the Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in Nairobi.Fr. Martin was born in Cleveland, where he met the Marianists while attending St. Joseph High School. Upon graduationin 1966, Fr. Martin entered the Marianist novitiate at Marcy, N.Y. He professed first vows in 1967 at Marcy andperpetual vows in 1973 at Mount Saint John in Dayton. Fr. Martin was ordained in 1978 in Dayton. He received abachelor's degree in philosophy and English in 1971 from the University of Dayton and a master's degree in religiouseducation in 1975 from Boston College. In 1979, Fr. Martin received a master of divinity degree from the University ofSt. Michael's College in Toronto.Erin SuttonStudentBoston CollegeErin Sutton is a current senior studying physics and mathematics at Boston College.She grew up outside of Boston, and is looking forward to continuing her physicsresearch at the graduate level. After an adolescence of worrying about the climate andinequality, she became involved with BC's fossil fuel divestment campaign in 2013. She is primarily responsible for advancing the organization'sPublic Policy & Advocacy Priorities, mobilizing grassroots advocacy efforts and developing partnerships in thecommunity. Among many policy priorities, she manages environmental and sustainability issues, including climatechange, energy, water, and toxic chemicals; as well as social justice issues, including immigration reform, humantrafficking, and homelessness.Ms. Wenger has developed strong collaborations and partnerships at the local, state, national, and international arenasto seek and build common ground in support of health care system transformation and healthy communities. She hastestified before the California State Legislature and has worked with the White House Administration and Members ofCongress on climate issues.
