APRIL 28, 2019SUNDAY OF DIVINE MERCYSpecial Easter ThanksSo many parishioners had-a-hand in adding to thebeauty and splendor of our Easter celebration in each of the sixchurches of the Lower Allegheny Valley grouping of parishes.Thank you to everyone who helped to decorate the altars andsanctuaries inSaint Francis of Assisi Church (Harmar),Saint Edward Church (Blawnox), Saint Scholastica Church(Aspinwall), Madonna Church (Sharpsburg), Saint Mary Church(Sharpsburg), and Saint Joseph Church (O’Hara). Your hardwork does not go unnoticed and it is vey much appreciated. To the musicians, cantors and choir members: HolyWeek and Easter would not have been the glorious celebrationthat it was without the glad sound of your voices and skill at thepiano, organ and other musical instruments.Dear Parishioners,Seeing is believing so the saying goes. Thomasthe apostle was not content with the word of his peerswho told him that the Lord was alive. He wanted to see forhimself. And even more, he wanted to examine the nailprints in the hands and feet of Jesus. How much easier it was for Thomas than it is for us.Seeing Jesus in the flesh prompted him to utter thosefamous words of faith: “ My Lord and my God.” Wouldthat we were so privileged to be in the real presence ofthe Lord and be able to examine the living person of Jesus Christ. There would be no hesitation on our part inspeaking the same words which came from the mouth ofThomas. Our sight is everything and it moves us forward. Oureyes are open to all that can be seen and words that canbe read. How frightening it is, therefore, when our sightfails and eyeglasses no longer serve their purpose. Theworld becomes a dark and fearful place. In the death and burial of Jesus, life for Thomas andthe other apostles became a dark and fearful place.Without Jesus it was as though they could no longer see.But then, it was learned that the tomb was empty andwitnesses spoke of Jesus as risen. Suddenly, thedarkness vanished and there He stood in the midst ofthem, extending the assurance of peace.Sisters and Brothers, with our eyes wide open we areasked to move forward in faith and speak the words “ MyLord and my God,” as though we can see the LivingChrist in the flesh. In the darkness of our lives, in thefearfulness of a world stumbling along, we must believethat Jesus is in our midst and speaks the assurance ofpeace. The peace that only He can give.May your faith grow ever strong and may you livealways in the assurance of the Lord’s peace.Father Dale DeNinnoTo those who assisted at the many Masses and otherliturgical services during Holy Week and Easter Sunday asLectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Greeters andUshers: thank you so much for your faithful service. To the behind-the-scenes money counters who spendmany hours in counting the generous donations made byparishioners, family members and friends. Your commitment oftime is most important and appreciated. To everyone who made special donations to the EasterFlower Fund in memory of loved ones. Your generosity makespossible the beauty of flowers that adorn each of the altars andsanctuaries of our churches. And finally: the priests of the Lower Allegheny Valleygrouping of parishes want you to know how grateful they are foryour prayers, support, Easter cards and gifts, and the sincerity ofyour care for them.May God continue to bless us one and all.LAV PARISH NEWSYouth Ministry “House” Fundraiser:This is the lastweekend.
