American Craftsman Installation GuideProject Requirements: Failure to follow these instructions may voidproduct warranty. Window must be installed to be plumb, leveland square. Read guide before starting installation. Readall warnings and cautions during installation. The replacement window should beapproximately 1/4" less in width and heightthan the existing window opening once the oldsash and components have been removed.Head expander can be used if up to 1/2" lessin height. Due to ongoing product changes, updated testresults and/or new industry best practices,this installation procedure may change overtime. Visit the manufacturer’s website forcurrent installation instructions. This product is designed to be used as areplacement window installed into an existing“old style” wood double-hung window frame. Installation must comply with all applicablebuilding codes. Existing window frame, wall and weatherresistant barrier must be adequate and windowframe and wall must be structurally sound. Instructions are given for installation from theinterior of the building. Contact local authorities or waste managementcompanies for proper recycling and/or disposalof removed window or patio door. Failure todo so may result in injury or death.Follow manufacturers’ instructionsfor hand or power tools. Always wearsafety glasses. Failure to do so mayresult in injury and/or product damage.Windows and doors can be heavy.Use safe lifting techniques and areasonable number of people to moveand install window and door productsto avoid injury or product damage.Sill weep doors are small parts and,if swallowed, could pose a chokinghazard to young children.Contains small parts. If swallowedcould pose a choking hazard to youngchildren. Remove and dispose of anyloose or easily removed parts.Support window in opening whileshimming. Failure to do so may resultin injury and/or product/propertydamage.Do not leave the window openingunattended, especially when smallchildren are present. A fall from thewindow opening could cause death orserious injury.Unless specifically ordered, this windowdoes not have safety glass, and ifbroken, could cause injury. Many lawsand building codes require safety glassin locations adjacent to or near doors.This window is available with safetyglass that may reduce the likelihoodof injury if broken. Propertydamage may result.The use of movable insulating materialssuch as window coverings, shutters,and other shading devices may damageglass and/or vinyl.Remove or cut ventilation holes inplastic shipping wrap if window isnot installed immediately or productdamage may occur.Do not store windows flat or in thesun or product damage may occur.Follow instructions of foam, sealantand flashing manufacturer regardingmaterial application and compatibilitywith this product.Use masonry screw when fasteningdirectly into masonry or through abuck into masonry.Do not apply any type of film to glass.Thermal stress conditions resulting inglass damage could occur.Buildings constructed prior to 1978may contain lead paint which could bedisturbed during replacement. American Craftsman Installation GuideFasteners:Metal fasteners and components may corrode when exposed to preservative-treatedand/or fire-retardant treated lumber. Use approved fasteners and componentsto fasten unit. Failure to do so may cause a failure resulting in injury, property orproduct damage.Finishing, Cleaning and Maintenance Instructions:Do not stain or paint weatherstrip, vinyl,glass or hardware. Product damagemay occur. Read and follow finishing productinstructions and warnings on finishmaterial.Acid solutions used for cleaningmasonry or concrete will damage glass,fasteners, hardware, vinyl and metalflashing.Protect unit and follow cleaning productinstructions carefully. If acid contactsunit, wash all surfaces with waterimmediately. Clean glass using liquid glasscleaner. Clean exterior frame, sash, andinsect screens using mild detergentand water with a soft cloth or brush. For hard to clean areas use anonabrasive cleaner, alcohol-andwater or ammonia-and-water. Do not apply any type of film toinsulating glass. Thermal stress andglass damage can result. Shadingdevices (insulated coverings,shutters, etc.) may also causethermal stress damage. Remove metal tracksand top sash together anddispose of properly.
