Application FAQsDo you require a master’s degree to apply toa PhD program?No. The vast majority of our graduate programsaccept applicants with a four-year bachelor’s degreeor its equivalent. Exceptions are the PhD programsin the Divinity School and the School of Social ServiceAdministration. However, in some fields it is becomingincreasingly common for students enrolling in aPhD program to already hold a master’s degree.When should I apply?The vast majority of our programs accept applicationsonce per year for the following autumn quarter, withdeadlines for most PhD programs falling in December.Master’s program deadlines vary, but many programsaccept applications through March.What are your application requirements?Applicants apply directly to the program of interest viathe online application, and each program has a separateadmissions process. Typically, applications require:n Unofficial transcriptsn Statement of purposen Three letters of recommendationn Official test scoresn TOEFL or IELTS scores for international studentsn Application feePrograms in humanistic and social sciencefields also usually require a writing sample,while those in the sciences may require GRESubject Test scores.
