During the past 30 years, Nat Reeves has been one of thetop bassists in jazz. His supportive and stimulating playinghas uplifted a countless number of sessions and recordingdates (most notably with the great altoists Jackie McLeanand Kenny Garrett). Both as a performer and an educator, he has made a strongimpact on the jazz world. The St. John’s Youth Choir is a group of singers thathas fun while learning all about music reading, theory, vocal training, and the great sacred choralrepertoire, old and new. With worship at the core oftheir work together, the Youth Choir preparesanthems and other music twice monthly for the 10:30a.m. Sunday service at St. John’s Church. St. John’sYouth Choir is affiliated with the Royal School ofChurch Music, an international organization ofchoirs that sing in the English choir school tradition. Alongside professional and amateur adultsingers, they learn adult-level choral music and look beyond the words and music to communicatea message. The St. John’s Adult Choir is a semi-professional ensemble of 35 singers. Presentingmusic at St. John’s weekly services requires learning more than 100 choral works each year, whichthe choir does with joy and grace. Both choirs sing for Evensong and two major concerts at St.John’s each year, and for a number of special events at other venues. Last summer, the choirs sangin residence at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, and at the Cathedral of St. John theDivine in New York.
