Wehave continued our “Back to Basics” programming theme throughoutthese next two sessions here at Sweetwater. You will find many of yourfavorite classes and workshops, and we hope you take advantage of the“next step” in your preferred medium or dare to try something new!Over the next five months, we will host six different exhibitions inour Gallery. We were excited to take part in the 52nd annual conferenceof the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts in Marchand featured ceramic and pottery exhibitions. In April, we will take partin the annual Sewickley Spring Gallery walk and host a pop-up jewelryboutique sale called Spring LUXE. Before we know it, summer will beupon us! We are getting ready to welcome another 1,000 campersthroughout the months of June, July, and August. We can’t wait towelcome members of your family to take part in half and full day campsof art creation, exploration, and celebration.As always, we are so very thankful for your continued supportand dedication to Sweetwater. RegistrationInformationClass Registration: Payment is due uponregistration. Sweetwater does not hold aspot in a class until payment is received.Online: Students are able to register forclasses online at sweetwaterartcenter.org. Sweetwater encourages you toregister online rather than by traditionalmeans. Set up an online account at www.sweetwaterartcenter.org/classes. Once youhave created a User ID and Password, youwill then be able to log on to our onlinesystem and register for classes. Onlineregistration is not available for privatemusic lessons or private art lessons. Otherexclusions may apply.By Phone: You may register by phone onlyif you will be paying by credit card. Weaccept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, andAmerican Express.In Person: You may register in person atthe Sweetwater office. Please see page1 for building hours. Classes are filled inthe order registrations are received. Wedo not send a confirmation letter. It is theresponsibility of the student to appear inclass on the correct day and time withoutadditional notice.Transfer Policy: Students may transferwithout any charge from one class toanother by calling Sweetwater. Transfersmust be made at least 3 business daysprior to the start date of class initiallyregistered for. Transfers can only be madeto classes in the same session. Classesare nontransferable between students.Students are responsible for any pricedifference in tuition for the transfer.Students must call 412.741.4405 totransfer to a class; transfers cannot be doneonline.10 SPRING/SUMMER 2018 GUIDELate Registrations: Students may registerfor any class, space permitting, beforethe second class. We do not prorate classtuition due to late registration.Membership: Cost of a membership is 50 for an individual; 80 for a familyand 25 for a student. Memberships lastone year and are non-refundable. Familymemberships apply to immediate familymembers only. Individual memberships arefor 18 years of age and over only.Materials: All materials, unless otherwisenoted, will be supplied by students attheir own expense. A list of necessarymaterials can be found online at www.SweetwaterArtCenter.org/classes. Click onthe “View/Register for Classes Online” link,enter the appropriate information, and click“Search.” Click on your class to view therequired materials. If no materials are listed,they will be provided.Sweetwater Course Policy: Sweetwatermakes every effort to maintain the scheduleof courses as indicated in the catalog.However, we reserve the right to cancelcourses, change instructors, and combineclasses when necessary without priornotification.Gift Certificates: Gift certificates mustbe used at the time of registration.Sweetwater does not offer refunds for giftcertificates after the student has registered.Gift certificates can only be used whenregistering over the phone or in person.Online redemption is not available.Cancellations & Refunds: Sweetwaterdoes not offer make-up classes or tuitionreimbursement for student absenteeism.Sweetwater does not prorate tuition forclasses that the student cannot attend.If Sweetwater must cancel a class due toinsufficient enrollment, registered studentswill be notified one or two days before thestart date, and tuition will be reimbursedwithin 10 business days of notification.If the student must cancel his/herenrollment in a course, the followingcancellation policy will apply: Classcancellations must be made at least 3business days prior to the start date ofclass. Students may receive a partialrefund ( 25 cancellation fee per class willbe applied) OR a credit voucher in thefull amount if they cancel no less than 3business days before the class start date.No refunds or credit vouchers will be givenwithout 3 business days notice. Creditvouchers are non-transferable betweenstudents and may only be applied towardsclass tuition. Refunds will be processedwithin 10 business days.Inclement Weather Policy: Sweetwatermakes every effort possible to keepits programs running during periods ofinclement weather. Closing decisions arebased on weather alerts, road and schoolclosings, and the ability of the Sweetwaterstaff to get to and from the Center andoperate the facility safely. In case of closingand/or program cancellations, Sweetwaterwill update its website’s homepage, mainvoicemail, and Facebook page. In theevent that Sweetwater cancels a class dueto inclement weather, a make-up class willbe scheduled. If a make-up class cannot bescheduled, students will be issued a creditvoucher or refund for the cancelled class.Child Drop-Off and Dismissal Policy: Thefollowing policy applies to children enrolledin Preschool, Children’s, and Teen classes(ages 4-15): In order to keep your child safe,please escort him/her to class every day. Ifanyone other than yourself is to pick yourchild up, please write a note and give it tothe instructor at class. A photo ID must beshown when picking up children from class.If you give your teen permission to walkhome or to meet you outside after class,then you must write a note stating this andgive it to the instructor.Accessibility at Sweetwater: Sweetwaterwelcomes individuals with disabilities toour facility and is committed to providingthe best access possible to our events andprogramming. We encourage questions,requests, and suggestions to help usachieve our ongoing goal of creating acomfortable, enjoyable environment suitedto all unique needs and abilities.Building: Accessible entrances to ourbuilding include the Bank Street entranceand Sweetwater’s parking lot entrance.The Bank Street entrance may be used toaccess the lower level of our building. Our perceptions andthoughts deceive us constantly. The exhibition Corners of Thought asks artists tocreate site specific installations throughout our building that investigate our awarenessof what is happening on the peripheral of our lives, and what determines if we notice,ignore, remember or forget.All exhibitions held at Sweetwater Center for the Arts, unless noted.ExhibitionsSummer Solo ExhibitionAugust 11 – September 7, 2018Sweetwater will once again be offering our gallery space to a regional artist to presenttheir own solo exhibition. The artist presenting will be from within a 200 mile radiusof Pittsburgh, PA. We are excited to offer this opportunity to artists in our region andare looking forward to seeing who the artist will be that presents a solo exhibition. The site/sightexhibition will present photographic works from artists across the US who areinvestigating humanity's complex relationship to place.The exhibition site/sight is juried by Ashley McNelis, Curatorial Assistant for the CarnegieInternational, 57th Edition, 2018 at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. McNelisis a New York-based writer, curator, and art historian specializing in photography. She is acontributor to BOMB Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, The Heavy Collective, and sMountain MuseJune 23 – July 30, 2018Reception: Saturday, June 23, 6:00-8:00pmThere is a long history of creativity and craft making in the Appalachian Mountainregion. Traditional crafts have thrived among its residents since the first settlementsemerged. Today there are many artists living and working in the region who continueto use traditional processes and techniques but choose to create contemporaryworks that reflect current concepts and aesthetics. These works establish a dialoguebetween the rich and heavy history of the media and object itself, with the conceptsrevealed through the works. Mountain Muse will bring together contemporary works intraditional media by artists who reside in the Appalachian Mountain Region.
