DAY 1GOD, THE CREATORBIBLE STORYBIBLE VERSETODAY’S POINTDavid Praised God the CreatorActs 13:21-23; Psalm 104God created us. He planned workfor us to do.Ephesians 2:10 (paraphrase)God is the amazing Creator.LEADER DEVOTION“In the beginning God created . . . ” (Genesis 1 :1). Thismight be where you expected to start this week aswe talk about God as the Creator. We certainly do notwant to overlook those vital first five words of Scripture, but God’s creativity is not limited to Genesis 1–2. Hiscreativity is on display throughout all of God’s Word. AsScripture unfolds we gain new glimpses into the majestyof God’s creativity. Many of the psalms, in fact, show usinsight into God as the marvelous Creator through theeyes of David the poet/songwriter. This is where Day 1takes us. Let’s look together at God, the amazing Creatorof all things, to see His creation as an expression of Hisinfinite creativity and sovereignty. Before getting to Psalm 104, we’ll need to set up whoDavid was and why he is important to the overall storywe are telling this week. We see from Acts 13:21-23 thatGod was working out His plan for the nation of Israel, which ultimately included David being anointed as king.More on that on Day 2.“How countless are your works, Lord! In wisdom youhave made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”(Psalm 104:24)At the heart of Day 1, we want to encourage preschoolersand kids to notice God’s creation. Then we can leadthem to follow David’s example, and praise God as theCreator of all things. God is good. His creation is good. And He is still at work, even now, in the world around us.REFLECT Have you looked out of a window or taken a walkrecently and allowed God’s incredible creation to leadyou to praise God as Creator? If not, plan some timethis week to do just that. Perhaps you could write yourown psalm of praise in a journal. What are some ways you can begin planning to helpyour preschoolers observe God’s creativity in Hiscreation during VBS? Be sure to jot down a few notesto call on during your VBS.Take a few minutes to open your Bible and prayerfullyread all of Psalm 104. Notice two expressions of God’screativity in this passage. The more obvious are the worksof God in the sky (v. 2-4), the earth and water (v. 5-9), thesprings and the animals (v. 10-14), the trees and birds (v. 1617), and much more. The second expression of creativitymay not be as obvious at first. Consider the words Davidused to paint a picture for us to see in our minds. It isGod’s creativity at work being displayed through David’sdescriptions as he reflects on God’s creativity throughoutthe psalm. As David points to God the Creator, we seeGod’s creativity reflected in David’s poetry.3s–PRE-K LEADER GUIDE9
