Your academy will let you know exactly what this means for you but here’s a summary:Primary academies Face coverings should be worn by staff and visitors in situations outside of classrooms where social distancing is notpossible (for example, when moving around in corridors). The reintroduction of face coverings for pupils, students or staff may be advised for a temporary period in response toparticular localised outbreaks, including variants of concern.Secondary academies Face coverings will no longer be recommended for pupils in classrooms or communal areas in all schools. Face coverings will also no longer be recommended for staff in classrooms. In all schools we continue to recommend that face coverings should be worn by staff and visitors in situations outside ofclassrooms where social distancing is not possible (for example, when moving around in corridors). The reintroduction of face coverings for pupils, students or staff may be advised for a temporary period in response toparticular localised outbreaks, including variants of concern. Children and young people aged 11 and over must still wear a face covering on public transport. In accordance withadvice from PHE, they must also wear a face covering when travelling on dedicated transport to secondary school orcollege. This does not apply to children and young people who are exempt from wearing face coverings.

Posters make prizes!We were delighted to hear that Middlestown's Niamh camesecond in Wakefield Council’s climate change survey andposter competition! We’re told the standard of posters wasincredibly high and Councillor Hemingway was blown awayby the entries, so this is a brilliant achievement for Year 6'sNiamh whose poster will be used on climate change socialmedia posts in the future!The prize for second place was a massive 300 worth ofnature and environment friendly goodies, including trees,flowers, seeds, shrubs, bug hotels, bird boxes, bat boxes,equipment to make a wildlife pond, and gardeningequipment .Well done Niamh!!Professor Bubbleworks!This week, Horbury Primary pupils have taken part in aScience workshop, led by Professor Bubbleworks! Theyfound out about steam powered machinery, the internalcombustion engine and electricity in action. Pupils had afantastic time, learning all about the role Science plays ininventions!Walk to School WeekFrom Monday, Horbury Primary will be taking part in Walk toSchool week, where a new superhero will be introduced eachday of the week! Tree planting projectHorbury Eco-Warriors enrichment club have been busy potting on treeseedlings which are destined to be part of the big Horbury Academytree planting project.Over the next few years, Eco-Warriors are planning to enrich theirscience and geography studies by learning all about native eco-systemsas they plan and create new and improved wildlife habitat in the schoolgrounds to help replace the habitats that are continually beingdestroyed by tree felling, building and intensive farming.Eco-Warriors is run by Mrs Church and Miss Koritsas and takes place on a Tuesday afterschool in A3. It’s open to all year groups and future sessions will include pond clearing,soil testing and fruit bush planting with wet weather fall back sessions planning theirhabitats, calculating ‘canopy cover’ using itree, planning fundraising, mapping the schoolsite and making tree labels!
