PERCENTILESPercentile ranks represent the percentage ofstudents that score equal to or below the scorethe student obtained. For the total scores andthe section scores, percentile ranks are providedbased on two different reference populations. Onboth the paper and online score reports, studentsreceive a nationally representative percentilerank. On the online score report, students alsoreceive a user group percentile rank based ontypical test-takers.Nationally representative percentiles arederived via a research study sample of U.S.students in the student’s grade (10th or 11th),weighted to represent all U.S. students in thatgrade, regardless of whether they typically takethe PSAT/NMSQT. For example, a student’s scorein the 75th percentile means that 75 percentof the nationally representative group of U.S.students in the same grade would have hadscores at or below that student’s score.
