The recenteconomic boom has strengthened Dublin’sprominence as a cultural center for literature,theater, and the arts, and has elevated it to atruly international city. Students enjoy thelively atmosphere of the historic St. Stephen’sGreen, Grafton Street shops, restaurants,and the clubs of Temple Bar.Republic of IrelandcorkBoston College has a permanent base at TheCentre for Irish Programmes on St. Stephen’sGreen. Located in a beautiful Georgian building, the Centre serves as a focal point for BC’swork in Ireland, the UK, and throughout Europe. It operates on a multidisciplinary basisand is open to the entire BC community. TheCentre organizes a wealth of cultural and academic events, has wireless internet access andworkspaces, and also allows students to watchBC games. The Centre offers a six week summer internship and has expert staff ready tooffer support to all BC students in Ireland.Founded in the sixth century by St. Finbarr,Cork has retained its charm, friendliness, andalso remnants of its Viking past. The tree-lined main streethas thatched roof, stone-fronted houses andswans swimming in the Royal Canal. Maynoothis best known for St Patrick’s College, established in 1795, that was once one of the largest Catholic seminaries in the world and isnow part of the National University of Ireland(NUI).
