A recent Bank of Ireland Student / GraduateCurrent Account Statement will be required asevidence in support of any claim made underthis policy.Cover applies for an unlimited number of InsuredJourneys with up to 120 days cover on any oneInsured Journey. The Insured Person must be aresident of the Republic of Ireland. Important InformationPre-existing Medical ConditionsThe following exclusions shall apply to SectionB, Medical & Other Expenses and Section C,Cancellation & Curtailment Charges.The Insured Person is not covered for any of thefollowing Pre-Existing Medical Conditions;a. a ny medical condition of which they have beeninformed or made aware of or for which they havereceived treatment at a hospital, clinic, or doctor’ssurgery (including repeat prescriptions and thelike) in the twelve months before they booked theirInsured Journey;b. if they are suffering from a heart related conditionand/or hypertension for which ongoing medicationis prescribed or have ever had a heart relatedoperation or a stroke, or arterial disease, kidneydisease, malignant disease (cancer), lung orrespiratory disease (excluding controlled asthmaunless they have received in-patient hospitaltreatment within the last twelve months),motor-neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease orAlzheimer’s disease; orc. any terminal illness which has been diagnosed.Further, this insurance does not provide cover if atthe time of booking the Insured Journey, the personwhose condition gives rise to a claim is either:i. n a hospital waiting list for treatment oroinvestigation or awaiting the results of medicaltests; orii. t ravelling contrary to medical advice orspecifically to obtain medical treatment; oriii. e xpected to give birth during the InsuredJourney or within two months of date arrivinghome; oriv. r equires medication or treatment which theyknow, at the start of the Insured Journey, willbe needed while outside the Republicof Ireland.How we use personal informationBy providing your personal information to AIG orpersonal information regarding other individualsyou represent that you have the authority to doso and consent to the collection and processing(including the disclosure and international transfer)of this personal information as stated in the PrivacyPolicy which is available at www.aig.ie, by e-mailing3

Law and JurisdictionThis contract will be governed by the laws ofthe Republic of Ireland whose courts alone shallhave jurisdiction.Claims EvidenceThe Insured Person must provide at their ownexpense any evidence in support of a claim.An Insured Person must undergo as many medicalexaminations in connection with any claim as theInsurer may require at the Insured Person’sown expense.Claims NotificationThe Insured Person must tell the AIG Claims Services(see page 19) as soon as possible of any potentialclaim. Where the Insured Person does not complywith any obligation to act in a certain way specified inthis certificate of insurance, this may prejudice theirclaim under this insurance.Medical EmergenciesThe Medical Emergency Assistance Company, AIGAssistance Services, will provide immediate helpif you are ill, injured or die outside the Republic ofIreland. They provide a 24-hour emergency service365 days a year. The contact details are as follows:Phone: 44 (0) 1273 771 909Email: uk.assistance@travelguard.comPlease have the following information available whenyou contact AIG Assistance Services so that yourcase can be dealt with swiftly and efficiently: Your name and address; Your contact phone number abroad; Y our policy number shown on your policyschedule; and T he name, address and contact phone numberof your GP.Please note: This is not a private medical insurance.If you go into hospital abroad and you are likely to bekept as an inpatient for more than 24 hours or if youroutpatient treatment is likely to cost more than 700,someone must contact AIG Assistance Servicesfor you immediately. If they do not, we may provideno cover or we may reduce the amount we pay formedical expenses.5

If you have to return to the Republic of Ireland undersection C (Cutting your trip short) or section B1(Medical and other expenses outside of the Republicof Ireland) AIG Assistance Services must authorisethis. If they do not, we may provide no cover or wemay reduce the amount we pay for your return to theRepublic of Ireland.Returning Early to the Republic of IrelandIf the Insured Person has to return to the Republic ofIreland under Section B (Medical & Other Expenses)or Section C (Cancellation & Curtailment Charges)they must obtain prior consent by contacting AIGAssistance Services. Failure to do so may invalidatetheir claim.Economic SanctionsThe Insurer shall not be deemed to provide coverand the Insurer shall not be liable to pay any claim orprovide any benefit hereunder to the extent that theprovision of such cover, payment of such claim orprovision of such benefit would expose the Insurer,its parent company or its ultimate controlling entityto any sanction, prohibition or restriction underUnited Nations resolutions or the trade or economicsanctions, laws or regulations of the European Unionor the United States of America.Territorial LimitsWorldwide (subject to Economic Sanctions aboveand General Exclusion j).WarrantyThe insurance provided by this certificate ofinsurance is subject to the warranty that the InsuredPerson will not book or commence any InsuredJourney contrary to medical advice or to obtainmedical treatment or after a terminal prognosis hasbeen made.General DefinitionsThe following words have the same meaningwherever they appear in this certificate of insuranceand are shown with an initial capital letter.AccidentAccident means a sudden and unexpected eventcaused by violent, external and visible means whichresults in Bodily Injury to an Insured Person andincludes exposure to severe weather conditionsresulting from a mishap to a conveyance in whichthe Insured Person is travelling.6

Bodily InjuryBodily injury means accidental bodily injury which:1. Is sustained by the Insured Person during theperiod of an Insured Journey;2. Is caused by an Accident; and3. Solely and independently of any other causeexcept illness directly resulting from medicalor surgical treatment rendered necessary bysuch injury, occasions the death or PermanentDisablement of the Insured Person within twentyfour calendar months from the date of theAccident by which such injury is caused.Curtailment or CurtailedThe cutting short of an Insured Journey once anInsured Person has departed from the Republic ofIreland, for any of the reasons outlined in Section C(Cancellation & Curtailment Charges).Insured JourneyEach journey shall be deemed to be a separateinsurance, each being subject to the terms,conditions, limitations and warranty contained herein.In respect of all sections other than Section C, theperiod of cover for each journey shall commenceat the time the Insured Person leaves their usualplace of residence, in the Republic of Ireland, at thecommencement of their journey for the purposeof travel outside the Republic of Ireland and shallterminate on return to their usual place of residence,in the Republic of Ireland, on completion of thejourney. For the purpose of Section C, the period ofcover shall start from the time of booking the journey.In no case shall an Insured Journey exceed 120 daysunless as a result of a mishap beyond the controlof the Insured Person, in which event this certificateof insurance will remain in force until return but notexceeding a further 21 days. No individual journeymay last longer than 120 days and journeys whichexceed 120 days in duration will invalidate cover fromthe time of booking the journey.Insured PersonThe Bank of Ireland Student Credit Cardholder.InsurerAIG Europe Limited.Loss of LimbsLoss by physical separation of a hand at or above7

the wrist or a foot at or above the ankle, and includespermanent, total and irrecoverable loss of use of ahand, arm, foot, or leg.MoneyCoins, bank or currency notes, bankers drafts, billsof exchange, letters of credit, luncheon vouchers,credit, debitor charge cards, phone cards, postal ormoney orders, travel tickets, petrol or other couponswith a monetary value, or credit vouchers whichbelong to or are in the custody and control of anInsured Person and are intended for travel, meals,accommodation and personal expenditure only.PartnerAny man or woman living with the Bank of IrelandStudent Credit Cardholder as a couple at the sameaddress for a minimum period of six months.Period of InsuranceThe period of this insurance shall be from the dateof election to the Bank of Ireland Student CreditCard, occurring during each 12 month period themaster policy issued to the Bank of Ireland is in force.Cover will continue during the currency of the masterpolicy and cease on cancellation of membership ofthe Bank of Ireland Student Credit Card or 30 dayswritten notice given by the Bank of Ireland to the lastregistered address of the cardholder or when themaster policy is not renewed.Permanent DisablementPermanent total loss of sight of one or both eyes,total loss of one or more limbs or PermanentTotal Disablement.Permanent Total DisablementDisablement which entirely prevents the InsuredPerson from attending to any business or occupationof any and every kind and which, having lastedat least twelve calendar months is, at the expiryof that period in the opinion of a qualified medicalpractitioner beyond hope of improvement for theremainder of their life.Pre-existing Medical ConditionsIn respect of an Insured Person:a. a ny medical condition of which they have beeninformed or made aware of or for which they havereceived treatment at a hospital, clinic, or doctor’ssurgery (including repeat prescriptions and the8

like) in the twelve months before they booked theirInsured Journey;b. i f they are suffering from a heart related conditionand/or hypertension for which ongoing medicationis prescribed or have ever had a heart relatedoperation or a stroke, or arterial disease, kidneydisease, malignant disease (cancer), lung orrespiratory disease (excluding controlled asthmaunless they have received in-patient hospitaltreatment within the last twelve months),motor-neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease orAlzheimer’s disease; orc. any terminal illness which has been diagnosed.Public TransportBus, coach, ferry, sea vessel or train which operatesaccording to a published timetable.WarWar, whether declared or not, or any warlikeactivities, including use of military force by anysovereign nation to achieve economic, geographic,nationalistic, political, racial, religious or other ends.General ExclusionsThe following exclusions apply to all sections of thisinsurance and are in addition to the exclusions undereach individual section.The Insurer shall not be liable for:a. A ny claim arising out of War, civil war, invasion,insurrection, revolution, use of military power orusurpation of government or military power.b. Loss or destruction of or damage to any propertywhatsoever or any loss or expense whatsoeverresulting or arising there from any legal liability ofwhatsoever nature, directly or indirectly causedby or contributed to by or arising from:i. ionising radiation or contamination byradioactivity from any nuclear fuel or fromany nuclear waste from the combustion ofnuclear fuel;ii. t he radioactive toxic explosive or otherhazardous properties of any nuclear assemblyor nuclear components thereof.c. Loss, destruction or damage directly occasionedby pressure waves caused by aircraft and otheraerial devices travelling at sonic or supersonicspeeds.d. Any claim arising directly or indirectly out of,financial incapacity or disinclination to travel.9

e. A ny claim directly or indirectly occasioned by,happening through or in consequence of aviation,other than as a fare-paying passenger in a properlylicensed multi-engined, passenger carrying aircraft,flown by a properly licensed crew and operated forthe transportation of passengers.f. Any claims where the Insured Journey hasexceeded 120 days in duration.g. Any claim resulting from the tour operator, airlineor any other company, firm or person becominginsolvent, or being unable or unwilling to fulfil anypart of their obligation to the Insured Person.h. Any indirect losses, costs, charges or expenses(meaning losses, costs, charges or expenses whichare not listed under sections A to G).i. Any claim resulting from the Insured Persontravelling to a country where the Departmentof Foreign Affairs have advised against all butessential travel.j. Any claim arising under this insurance if youare on any official government or policedatabase of suspected or actual terrorists,members of terrorist organisations, drugtraffickers or illegal suppliers of nuclear,chemical or biological weapons.CoverSection A – Personal AccidentIn the event of an Accident causing Bodily Injuryto an Insured Person during an Insured Journeywhich results in death or Permanent Disablement,the Insurer will pay to that Insured Person or to theirexecutors, administrators or assignees the amount(s)set out as follows:The following covers apply to Bodily Injury sustainedonly whilst on an Insured Journey outside of theRepublic of Ireland.ScheduleSum Insured(a) Accidental death 5,000(b) Permanent total loss ofsight of one or both eyes 5,000(c) Loss of Limbs (one or more) 5,000(d) Permanent Total Disablementother than loss of sight of oneor both eyes or Loss of Limbs(one or more) 5,000DisappearanceIt is agreed that subject to all the terms, limitations,conditions and exclusions of the certificate of10

insurance except as specifically provided herein, ifthe Insured Person disappears during the InsuredJourney and their body is not found within 90 daysafter their disappearance and sufficient evidence isproduced satisfactory to the Insurer that leads themto the conclusion that they sustained Bodily Injuryand that such injury caused their death. The Insurershall pay the death benefit under the certificate ofinsurance provided that the person or persons towhom such sum is paid shall sign an undertaking torefund such sum to the Insurer if the Insured Personis subsequently found to be living.Section B – Medical & Other ExpensesThe Insurer will indemnify an Insured Person, duringan Insured Journey, in respect of:1. T he cost of reasonable medical, surgical orhospital treatment (including emergency dentaltreatment for the immediate relief of pain only)necessarily incurred during the Period of Insurance(as defined) whilst outside the Republic of Ireland.The Insurer reserves the right to repatriate when inthe opinion of a qualified doctor and the Insurers’medical advisers the Insured Person is fit to travel.2. T he cost of transporting the remains of an lnsuredPerson to their usual place of residence in theRepublic of Ireland or the cost of a funeral in thecountry where death occurs outside the Republicof Ireland.3. T he cost of return to the Republic of Ireland of aninjured or sick Insured Person by air ambulancewhere in the opinion of the Insurers’ medicaladvisers such repatriation is medically necessary.4. T he reasonable additional cost of continuedoccupation of accommodation and additionalexpenses in returning to the Insured Person’splace of residence in the Republic of Ireland(including the cost of accommodation and flightsof one relative or friend required on medical adviceto travel to, remain with or accompany an InsuredPerson) necessarily incurred and resulting from:a. t he Bodily Injury to, or illness or death of theInsured Person;b. the Bodily Injury to, or illness or death of theparent, parent-in-law, spouse/Partner, child,sister, brother, fiance(e) or close businessassociate of an Insured Person whethertravelling with an Insured Person or not.11

5. I n addition to the hospital charges payable underthis Section, the Insurer will pay to the InsuredPerson a benefit of 130 per complete day (upto a maximum of 1,300) in the event that theInsured Person is admitted to a hospital outsidethe Republic of Ireland as an inpatient du
