OUT of AFPaRrk I&CSaAfari The History of The humble beginning. In 1988, Dean and Prayeri Harrisonfounded Out of Africa Wildlife Park, apreserve born from their single-mindedobjective of bringing God, people, andanimals together in a natural setting.Married in 1980, neither of them couldpredict what adventures would unfoldwhen they first met. Dean began learningto interpret animal behavior from hisreptile friends during his childhood, whilePrayeri shared a fascination with anassortment of cat, dog, and bird pets thatshe grew up with. This deep-rootedfascination of the animal world was theunderpinning of what would one daybecome a 104-acre wildlife preservefeaturing hundreds of exotic animals, alocation filled with serenity andadventure. It all began in Southern California whenDean and Prayeri welcomed a babyAfrican leopard named Saja into theirhearts and home, sharing everything fromtheir bed, their food, and their life. Inreturn, this wild and survival-orientedcreature provided them the pricelessexperience of understanding life from awild animal’s point of view, and in sodoing, created a companionship betweenhuman and animal.Saja revealed what was to become theircalling, that of illuminating for others thegenuine connectedness between humanand animal spirituality. As Saja grew, sodid her need for companionship withother similar creatures, thus directing theHarrisons to gradually add other big, exotic cats to their family, including atiger, a cougar, and a lion, all of whomwere raised from cubs. This necessitated a move to an adequate, fully integrated, human/animal abodewhere the animals could freely roam theirown outdoor habitats, or chose to spendtime with Dean and Prayeri inside theirhome. It was that decision that led them toOregon. To some, co-existing with the wildest oflarge land predators may seem foolish, yetit was necessary to do things in a nontraditional, non-cultured way, to earnestlylook from the predator’s eyes as theylearned from them and fulfilled theirneeds. Dean and Prayeri refrained fromstandard procedures used in circuses orzoos, equally out of respect and love forthe animals as their research goals. Therewould be no whip or chair routine, andthe boredom of a zoo setting had to bereplaced with purpose and relationships. The lessons learned, and the satisfactionreceived, have been more than worth it, asevidenced in the spirit of Out of AfricaWildlife Park today.During this time the Harrisons becameknown for their beautiful animals andmeticulous care of them. They openedtheir home and facility to the public, calling it Tigerville, USA. But, theHarrisons wanted to live in Arizona sothey eventually moved to the Phoenix areawhere the original Out of Africa WildlifePark was formed in Fountain Hills, AZ in1988. After 16 years, the park was moved90 miles north to a much larger propertyin the high desert foothills of the MingusMountains in Camp Verde, AZ. As thepark grew from 16 acres to 104, so didOUT of AFRICA4020 North Cherry Rd. Camp Verde, AZ 86322 T: 928.567.2842 F: 928.567.2839 WWW.OUTOFAFRICAPARK.COM info@outofafricapark.com

Thepark opened to the public in May 2005.Visitors and the animals alike enjoy thepark’s look and feel of Africa, as thevegetation and landscape bear a strikingresemblance to many parts of Africa.Dean and Prayeri’s knowledge andunderstanding of animal behavior andinstinct has intensified with each new,“global” resident. They’ve becomeexperienced in preventive veterinary care, learning best practices in contemporaryallopathic thinking as well as in the moreesoteric options available in holisticmedicine. They also have extensiveexperience in evaluating and collaboratingon medical treatment and assisting atsurgeries for injuries and illness.Dean and Prayeri have traveled to Africamany times on photo safari tours. Thisexperience has imbued in them anoverwhelming physical and spiritualsense of “home” and of being one with allof life. These trips have helped themconstruct authentic habitats, enablingvisitors to the park to get a sense of anauthentic Africa. Providing others withthe opportunity to awaken to this concepthas become their greatest pleasure.Every day this concept of oneness isillustrated with unsurpassed majesty. It’s been over 30 years since theirgrand experiment began. Theenthusiasm Dean and Prayeri havedisplayed for over three decades nowcontinues to this very day. They havemade it their life’s calling to share whatthey have learned by demonstrating theseunique relationships to the public, whileplaying a role in the preservation of exoticanimals, many of which are threatenedtoday.Today, the Harrisons live on the groundsof the park year round, so they can beclose to the animals in their charge thatthey love. Out of Africa Wildlife Park hasgained great distinction as a highlyrespected wildlife park for its uniqueapproach allowing its residents to thriveand flourish because of spacious habitats, preservation and rehabilitation efforts, education, research, and interaction. From the beginning Dean and Prayeriwanted to know the big cats on a personalbasis. \OUT of AFPaRrk I&CSaAfari Sustaining the SanctuaryOut Africa Wildlife Park is dedicated to wildlife and the wild places that sustain all of us. As many of those wild places aroundthe globe are diminishing, we have heeded the call of developing and maintaining this 104-acre, animal sanctuary that offers ahaven to those who have no home. Perpetuating this real living and breathing planet we all inhabit with all of its wildlife beautyis something we feel is worth devoting our lives to, and it starts in our own back yard. Building and maintaining natural, spacious habitats allow our animal residents to not just survive, but thrive. And as an added benefit, we get to observe theirnatural behavior, up-close.As many of the wild places of the planet are disappearing and wildlife reserves and zoos become the last sanctuary for much ofthe world’s wildlife, Out of Africa Wildlife Park offers a place for animals that have no other. The Wildlife Park is working to tipback the scales for animals that have lost so much and have no voice. Through educating the public, Out of Africa Wildlife Parkhelps to ensure the sustained existence of wildlife species throughout the world.Discovering an exotic creature in person can be a life-changing event, no longer some cold, and virtual image on a computerscreen, or a page in a text book. When a tiger chuffs at you as to say hello or a giraffe comes within inches of you to snatch acarrot stick from you, suddenly you begin to experience a connection with the animal in a very personal and meaningful way. There is a transcendence that occurs, one of being uplifted. You, like so many, may be quickly overcome by their purity and senseof purpose and even feel oneness with them. Many people bond with a particular animal, as does the animal with them, and thatshared experience is repeated on subsequent visits never to be forgotten.Adopt-an-Animal ProgramWe owe it to each other and to the majestic creatures with which weshare this planet to teach, educate and inspire generations to come.By supporting Out of Africa Wildlife Park through your attendance 50.00 Caring Animal Companionand various contributions, you are helping us continue our neverPackage includes a certificate of adoption, fact sheet of youranimal including personal history, 5” x 7” color photo of youranimal.ending efforts in support of conserving nature and its most beautiful 100.00 Keepers of the Animalsand sanctuaries and habitats around the world, you may wish toAll of the benefits of the Caring Animal Companion package.
