What’s Changed in 2022Some details about our three existing plans have changed. Know Before You GoChoosing the right setting for your care—from vaccinations to X-rays—is key to getting thebest treatment with the lowest out-of-pocket costs. It’s important to understand your optionsso you can make the best decision when you or your family members need care. The followinginformation may help you decide where to go for medical treatment.Primary care providers (PCP)The best place to get consistent, quality health careis your primary care provider (PCP) . If you have amedical issue, having a doctor who knows yourhealth history often makes it easier to get the careyou need .24-hour nurse advice lineUrgent care centersUrgent care centers provide treatment for injuriesand illnesses that require prompt medical attentionbut are not life-threatening (sprains, minor cuts, flu,rashes, minor burns). These centers have doctorson staff and offer weekend/after-hours care.Example: Patient First, ExpressCare**When your PCP isn’t available, registered nursesare available 24/7 to discuss your symptoms withyou and recommend the most appropriate care .Call 800-535-9700 anytime to speak with a nurse .CareFirst Video VisitWhen your PCP isn’t available and you need nonemergency services, CareFirst Video Visit securelyconnects you with a doctor,* day or night, throughyour smartphone, tablet or computer. In addition,you can schedule visits for other needs such asbehavioral health support from a therapist orpsychiatrist, guidance from a certified nutritionistor breastfeeding support from a lactationconsultant . It’s a convenient and easy way to getthe care you need, wherever you are.Convenience care centersConvenience care centers (retail health clinics) offercare for non-emergency situations like colds, pinkeye, strep tests and vaccinations. These centersusually have evening and weekend hours .Example: CVS MinuteClinic, WalgreensHealthcare Clinic** on-hospital facilities andNsurgery centersX-rays, lab work and outpatient surgery will almostalways cost more in a hospital setting . Pay lessfor these services by going to a participatingnon-hospital facility or surgery center . Priorauthorization may be required for non‑hospitaloutpatient services.Outpatient hospital vs. Inpatient hospital Outpatient services are received in thehospital without being admitted, such assame-day surgeries . Inpatient services arethose received when you are admitted to thehospital . Prior authorization may be needed forhospital‑based services.Emergency rooms (ER)Emergency rooms treat acute illnesses and trauma .Go to the ER right away if you or a family memberhave sudden symptoms that need emergency care,including (but not limited to): chest pain, troublebreathing or head trauma . HDHPs and HSAs/HRAsOur HealthyBlue Advantage—HDHP Option may be a great choice if you want more controlover your health care spending or if saving for future medical expenses is a priority for you.HealthyBlue Advantage—HDHP Option pairsa high-deductible health plan (HDHP) witheither a Health Savings Account (HSA) or HealthReimbursement Arrangement (HRA) .Remember! You only have 30 days to sign up foran HSA, otherwise you will be enrolled in an HRA.To enroll in an HSA, visit carefirst.com/fedhmoand log into your My Account or use the HSA/HRASelection Form listed under Resources & Forms . We will deposit a portion of yourpremium in your HSA each month and you cancontribute additional funds to your HSA up to theIRS limits .Value of the HealthyBlue Advantage—HDHP Option (HSA) Reduce your taxes—you pay no taxeson contributions, interest, earnings, orwithdrawals for eligible expenses. Your HSA money grows tax-free over time. Your HSA funds rollover from year to yearto use on future eligible expenses includingretiree health expenses. When your HSA balance exceeds 1,000,you have the option to invest those funds.Earnings on these investments are also taxfree as long as withdrawals are used foreligible expenses. How HSAs and HRAs work With an HSA you are eligible for a premiumpass-through amount. We contribute 75 permonth for Self and 150 per month for Self One and Family to your HSA.You may also contribute additional amountsup to the maximum annual limit of 3,650for individuals and 7,300 for couples andfamilies as allowed by the IRS. A convenient BlueFund debit card givesyou quick and easy access to yourHSA funds. You can use your HSA to pay for anyeligible out-of-pocket health careexpenses. Once the annual deductible ismet ( 1,400 for Self; 2,800 for Self Oneand Family), CareFirst will begin to providebenefits for covered services. We fund your HRA account 900 for Self and 1,800 for Self One and Family. In-network preventive care is covered in fulland not subject to the deductible. Once youmeet your deductible, CareFirst begins to payfor covered services.
