A passionfor performanceTOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s history extendsback over more than 20 years.Initially the brainchild of Toyota presidentAkio Toyoda, it began when he introduceda revolutionary system that used photosto better engage with dealers and increasecustomer satisfaction when launching anew vehicle.The Japanese word for image is gazō,and hence GAZOO was born.In 2017, Toyota competed in the 24 hourNürburgring race to enhance thedevelopment of its cars. While this race wastaken on the belief that motorsports couldhelp strengthen both human resources andthe cars, it was also not an official Toyotaactivity. So rather than use the companyname, it became the GAZOO Racing team.Today, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is a symbolof revolution and challenge: a new challengefor a new age that begins here.4
A winningevolutionToyota has a long and proud history of competingat the highest level of international rally sport.It extends back to 1957 when a Toyopet CrownRS Deluxe competed in the gruelling MobilgasRound Australia Trial.Since those humble beginnings, Toyota has goneon to build an enviable record in the World RallyChampionship (WRC).The legendary Celica GT4 won the WRC DriversChampionship in 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1994.The Corolla WRC won the World Manufacturers'Championship in 1999.In 2017, Toyota returned to the WRC with Yaris WRCunder the guidance of Tommi Mäkinen and went onto win the 2018 World Manufacturers' Championship.It also won the 2019 World Drivers Championshipwith Ott Tanak and Martin Jarveoja after victory in6 events throughout the season, and again in 2020with Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia.TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has also won thelegendary Le Mans 24 hour race three yearsrunning – 2018, 2019 and 2020.The GR Yaris is built to continue this legacyof winning on and off the race track.5

Pure performance born fromWRC winning experienceThe 4-time WRC World Champion Tommi Mäkinenplayed a key role in the development of the GR Yaris,as did Akio Toyoda himself, who tested extensivelyunder his racing moniker “Morizo”.Designed and built from the ground up to performand excite, GR Yaris is a genuine hot hatch that isthe first Toyota WRC homologation model in over20 years.To ensure it lives up to its demanding performanceand quality goals, Toyota established a newmanufacturing line dedicated to building TOYOTAGAZOO Racing performance cars at the Motomachimanufacturing factory.The result is a car that achieves the initial aimof the project: to build a car that customerscan race almost without any modifications.7

SculpturedexhilarationDriven by motorsport’s obsessive pursuit for lighterbodies with impressive stiffness and strength,the GR Yaris features a carbon fibre polymer roofand aluminium body panels including the doors,bonnet and boot. The roofline has also been loweredby 95mm to further enhance the aerodynamics andhelp the GR Yaris to better slice through the air.The engine has been mounted further back withinthe body and the battery placed in the boot to helpimprove the chassis balance for more assuredhandling and response.The result is an outstanding power-to-weight ratio of156kW per tonne that helps launch the GR Yaris from0 to 100kmh in 5.2 seconds with an electronicallylimited top speed of 230km/h.13
World beatingpowerThe all-new 1.6L 3-cylinder turbocharged productionengine is the most powerful production engine inthe world for its size, producing up to 200kW ofpower and 370Nm of torque. This highly advancedDOHC 12 valve powertrain features a single-scrollball bearing turbo and is packed with the latestmotorsport technology including multi-oil jet pistoncooling, large-diameter exhaust valves and partmachined-intake ports, as well as dual mufflerssupporting the high performance exhaust system.From daily driving to serious competition, thislightweight engine delivers all the power you couldneed to enjoy dynamic acceleration, exhilaratingperformance and next-level driving pleasure.14
A force onthe roadA crisp six-speed lightweight iMT (intelligent ManualTransmission) harnesses the raw power and helpsprovide smoother shifting by automatically matchingthe engine and transmission speed to reduce shockas the clutch re-engages. The gearbox is seamlesslymatched to the new GR-FOUR continuous AWDsystem that continually adjusts the power to eachwheel for outstanding on-road performance,traction and response regardless of the road surface.It’s optimised for a broad range of driving conditions,with driver select modes for Normal, Sport or Trackto manually balance the torque distribution ratiobetween the front and rear wheels to matchyour preference.15
Finely tunedfor drivingRight from the start, the GR Yaris chassis wasdesigned to achieve maximum rigidity with theminimum possible weight. It features the latestdouble wishbone suspension on the rear wheelscombined with a MacPherson Strut system on thefront. Every element has been specially tuned tomaximise grip and meet the demands ofperformance driving with a high performanceconfiguration that helps provide outstandingon-road stability, assured balance and sharpertracking through curves.16

The wheelthingThe GR Yaris stands proud uponspecially cast lightweight 18" blackalloy wheels to ensure the smoothdelivery of the power to the road.Inspired by a traditional Japanesesword design, these highly rigidwheels made by ENKEI ,³ arematched with low profile Dunlop ³SP Sport Maxx tyres to ensuremaximum grip and confidenceon the road.18

Built bymastersTo ensure the GR Yaris is built to the exactingstandards required, Toyota established a dedicatedmanufacturing line to build TOYOTA GAZOO Racingsports cars at its Motomachi factory.Meeting the required production excellence requiresa highly specialised team using a large number ofprecise manual processes. For example, additionalstructural glue and an extra 200 welding points havebeen added to the GR Yaris to reach the necessarybody rigidity. The engine also requires a high level ofexpert manual engineering.Takumi Master Technicians inspect the work of thesehighly skilled technicians at every stage. If they’resatisfied it meets their precise standards, they apply aTakumi sticker to show they have approved that stageof construction, and the vehicle moves down the line.It’s the uncompromising use of human sensesand intuitive cross-checking quality and data thatdetermines when the GR Yaris is ready to leave thefactory to be delivered to you.29
