The pressure switchon the digital input (enable) will stopthe advance of the feed cylinder if thesaw motor is bogged down and creatingexcessive torque. Using ramps on theoutputs will produce smooth accelerationand deceleration of the feed cylinder.The two independent PWM outputs can beconfigured for the FMDA 3/2 proportionalcontrol valves. The two FMDA proportional3-way valves are used as meter-in elementsknown as Sun’s cushion lock circuit. (Theflow path from the two counterbalancevalves is from the FMDA work ports to tank.)This circuit shows a combination of orifices toreduce the effective setting of pilot pressure(splitter orifice). It also delays the openingof the counterbalance valve. Both help tofurther dampen the circuit but requiressetup time and fine tuning on the machineand does cause leakage.CAUTION: Small orifices in the pilot line cantrap pressure and keep the load-holdingvalve in an open position. Toachieve this, oil from the rod end of thecylinder (CR) is added to the pump flow tothe blind end (CF), increasing the rate ofextension. It incorporates open-loop controlusing an XMD-01 and a 0–10-Vdc pressuretransducer as the sensor feedback.regenerative flow will decrease until rodend flow is fully diverted to tank (VR). Fullpump pressure is then applied to the blindend, generating maximum force.NOTE: The ideal cylinder ratio to use withregeneration is 2:1, with the blind end areabeing twice what the annular area is at therod end. Once resistance is encounteredand the requirement switches from highspeed to high force or torque, then thelow-pressure/high-flow pump is unloadedback to tank at minimum pressure. At thatpoint, all available horsepower is directedto the high-pressure/low-flow pump. 2021 Sun Hydraulics LLCThis assembly also provides a system reliefvalve.
