2021 COMMUNITY GRANTSThe Hobsons Bay Community Grants Program is designed tosupport our community.As we respond to the COVID-19 environment, there has never been moreneed for a strong and vibrant community sector.The Hobsons Bay Community Grants Program supports local not for profit groups and clubs, networks andcommunity organisations. It aims to assist our community to deliver diverse programs and projects. Grantsare intended to assist to: build capacity, help with expenses, provide equipment, support services, growinitiatives and enable new ideas.In the current context community connection is vital and community groups are a key part of that connection.The Community Grants Program is here to support groups with normal and new needs. The process isdesigned to be simpler and faster, to get funds to a broad range of community groups and needs quickly.GRANT PRIORITIESThe grant program supports applications that respond to the followingpriorities: Community building in the context of COVID19- support responses from all local clubs,community groups and organisations, particularlythose who need assistance to continue, adapt,build resilience and engage through the COVID-19pandemic. Health and wellbeing - support thedevelopment of projects which meet acommunity need, promote health, wellbeing andconnections and are consistent with the strategicdirection of Hobsons Bay Community Vision2030 Organisation/group capacity building - assistlocal groups to build capacity, fosterindependence and skill development to respondto current and emerging challenges andopportunities Social inclusion and participation - assist localgroups to develop inclusive projects that focus ondiverse populations, promote community wellbeing,connection and participation in community life Networks and partnerships - encourage thedevelopment of supportive community networksthat contribute to the development andstrengthening of local communitiesCommunity building priorities in response to COVID-19 include: Continuing our work, getting back to it Adapting to changing needs Resilience building Engaging and re-engaging of members, community or partnersCouncil is committed to supporting projects through community grants that support social inclusion andfocus on diverse and priority populations, including young people, seniors, culturally and linguistically diverse,LGBTIQA , Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islanders, people with disability, newly arrived, women and vulnerablepopulations.1Community Grants - Guidelines

This can include digital assets.Vibrant Community GrantsUp to 5,000Until Dec 2021Funding to enable initiatives, projects,services and activities that respond toCOVID-19 situation, promoteneighbourhood and community vitality,enhance health and wellbeing, buildsocial connection and/or strengthensocial support.Invested Together GrantsUp to 10,000 over 2 years2 yearsFunding to help deliver partnershipprojects that meet an identifiedcommunity need; designed to beimplemented over an extended period.Council acknowledges the support of the Toyota Motor Corporation Australia which, through the ToyotaCommunity Foundation, contributes to our community by providing 30,000 to the Toyota Equipment and/orResources category.Successful applications will focus on meeting needs that can’t be met by other grants programs (eg stategovernment programs), and that are most appropriately supported by Council. TIMELINESTimeframes have been adjusted to better support community and funding recipients applications are open until 30 June applications are assessed in July 2020 funds are released from August 2020Projects are due to be completed by December 2021. If projects are impacted by further COVID-19 restrictions,this will be flexible, with extensions available.SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSThe local economy continues to be impacted by COVID-19 restrictions. Grant applicants are encouraged tosupport local business by sourcing and shopping local.HOW TO APPLYGo to www.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/communitygrants to find a link to the online application form alongwith extra information about the program.ASSESSMENT PROCESSAll submitted applications will be put through the following assessment process: eligibility check by Council officers individual application assessment and recommendation by Council Officers overarching review and shortlist review and decision by management and CouncillorsToyota equipment and/or resources category applications are assessed by a panel of Toyota Australia staffASSESSMENT CRITERIASmall expenses grants are assessed against the group’s eligibility.All other applications are assessed against the following areas:Demonstrated need How well does the application identify and respond to the need for the project?Project and budget design and planning How well has the project and budget been outlined and is it achievable Does the applicant demonstrate the required capacity to deliver the project?Project Outcomes Are the outcomes and benefits clearly identified and achievable?Alignment to Council Community Grants priorities How well does the application align with the five key Council grants priorities?Applications that demonstrate community strengthening through continuity, adaptation, resiliencebuilding and engagement will be given high priority.Council will endeavour to ensure the distribution of grant funds is fair and equitable. GET SUPPORT – INFORMATION AND GRANTWRITING WORKSHOPSAs part of the program, Council offers applicants assistance and advice on how to prepare their application.Applicants are encouraged to take up this offer. It is a requirement for applicants in the Invested Together Grant(2 year grant) category to be in contact with the Community grants officer prior to their submission.To learn about this year’s grants program and how to write a grant application, join a free online workshopfacilitated by grant expert Debby Maziarz and Hobsons Bay Community Grants Officer, Cathy Miles.Two online zoom workshops are currently scheduled: Wednesday 3 June 10am to 12.30pm Wednesday 10 June 6pm- 8.30pm Thursday 18 June 10am to 12.30pm Tuesday 23 June 6pm to 8.30pmBookings are essential. Instructions will follow and support can be provided to use the online zoom platform.Contact the Community Grants Officer to make a booking or for support to apply for a grant atcommdev@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au or phone 9932 1235ELIGIBILITY CRITERIAApplicants that are eligible to applyfor funding: Community groups/clubs and not for profitorganisations (includes co-operatives andschools) based in Hobsons Bay or providingprograms based in Hobsons Bay that areincorporated or supported by an auspice.
