Always follow-up with that employer if you choose not to interview or decideto decline a job offer. Employers respect that candidates may choose anotheremployer, however, notification of your decision is expected.Not responding to an employer’s job offer leaves a bad impression of you as acandidate and may impact future opportunities.At any time, if you have concerns or questions regarding the interview, job offeror acceptance deadline, do not hesitate to contact the employer. People andresources are in place to assist prospective candidates.BACKGROUND CHECKEmployers perform background checks on all hiring candidates. It is very important that candidates be honest when sharing information. If youhave a past situation in your background and are honest about that circumstanceon your application, an employer like Ford still may offer employment.If you withhold background information that the employer discovers, anemployer like Ford may decline to offer employment. Give the employer achance to evaluate the background situation and how it affects your candidacy.If you have a new situation between the time your application was submittedand when you start employment, it is better to share that information yourselfthan to have it discovered and risk having your job offer rescinded.MEDICAL SCREENINGA key part of the hiring process is the medical screening. Thisincludes a drug test. Don’t let a drug test be the roadblock between you and the professionalopportunities that your GPA, internship experience and overall professionalprofile will provide you.Although some substances have been recently legalized in various states, theirappearance in your drug test may still have an impact on your hiring results.

WHEN LOOKING FOR A JOB.Research the best time of year to look for a job in your industry. 72% of ouremployers hire employees in the fall.Find keywords in the application from your prospective employer, and usethem as you refine your resume. The employer’s recruiting software willsee the connections and flag your resume for further review.Complete the online application before contacting employers.Use the NSBE Career Center! Doing so early gives employers more time toprepare to talk with you at the Career Fair.Remember that government contractors may only receiveyour resume online.Monitor your social media profile! Make sure you don’thave public images or content that would distract or,worse yet, deter hiring managers or recruiters fromwanting to hire you. Don’t provide red flags for recruitersand hiring managers.
