kwikset lock prequalification1Using a small ruler, check the deadbolt or door knobopening for backset length as shown below. Measurementis from the center of the deadbolt/knob to the edge of thedoor. In addition, determine if the latch opening is tubularin shape. If both of these meet the criteria pictured below,proceed to step two.tubular doorstrike opening2-3/8” (60mm)or2-3/4” (70mm)2Visually check the door for any warping. Is the door niceand straight against all areas of the frame?3If installing a deadbolt, open and close the door. Check thedoor to ensure it closes properly and that the door knoblatch secures the door in the closed position.4Now check the deadbolt by turning the latch to determine ifit correctly aligns with the strike plate in the door frame. Doyou have to push on the door to get the latch to engage?5If no, then it is safe to sell the lock and the installationshould be smooth.If yes, then the door knob latch strike plate may need aslight adjustment towards the exterior or interior of thedoor open lock installation in order for the deadbolt toalign with the latch and secure the door to the frame.
