Important informationThe purpose of the PDSThe purpose of this Product Disclosure Statement(PDS) is to help you understand the insurance policyand provide you with sufficient information toenable you to compare and make an informeddecision about it.Welcome to VeroVero can trace its origins back to 1833 in Australia.Since then we have successfully protected ourcustomers’ personal and business assets. Vero aimsto provide our customers with certainty and peace ofmind, through innovative, specialised and expertinsurance offerings.We offer a range of insurance products includinghome building, home contents, private motor, traveland caravan insurance.Who is the insurer?Vero Insurance Limited ABN 48 005 297 807, AFSLicence No. 230859 is the insurer and issuer of thisPDS.You may contact Vero by calling: the telephone number shown on your schedule; your insurance adviser; or 1800 285 712or alternatively by writing to us at:Vero Insurance LimitedGPO Box 1619Adelaide SA 5001Cooling off periodWe understand that people may change their mindor decide that this insurance is not suited to theirneeds after all. You have the right to cancel thisinsurance policy within 30 days of the date it wasissued to you (“cooling off period”), unless you havealready commenced your journey or you make aclaim under the policy within the cooling off period.If it is cancelled in this time, we will return theamount you have paid.2

Duty of disclosureWhat you must tell usYou have a general duty to disclose to us everythingthat you know, or could reasonably be expected toknow, is relevant to our decision whether to insureyou, and, if we do, on what terms.However, your duty does not require you to discloseanything: that reduces the risk to be undertaken by us, that is generally well known, that we know or, in the ordinary course of ourbusiness, ought to know, or in respect of which we have waived your duty.Your general duty applies to renewals andchangesYour general duty applies in full when you renewan insurance policy or change an existing policyincluding when you extend or reinstate it.Your general duty is limited for new policiesWhen you apply for a new policy your duty ofdisclosure applies, but you do not need to disclosesomething to us unless we specifically ask youabout it. However, you must be honest in answeringany questions we ask you. You have a legal duty totell us anything you know, and which a reasonableperson in your circumstances would include inanswering the questions. We will use the answersin deciding whether to insure you and anyone elseto be insured under the policy, and on what terms.Who needs to tell usIt is important that you understand you aredisclosing to us and answering our questions foryourself and anyone else you want to be covered bythe policy.If you do not tell usIf you do not answer our questions honestly or donot properly disclose to us, we may reduce or refuseto pay a claim or may cancel the policy. If you actfraudulently in answering our questions or notdisclosing to us, we may refuse to pay a claim ortreat the policy as never having existed.3

How much protectiondo we provide?The insurance we offer you is set out in this PDS.It is important that you: read all of the PDS to make sure that it gives youthe protection you need, and are aware of the limits on the amounts we willpay you under this PDS.You will find these limits: stated in the PDS itself (these are our standardpolicy limits), and stated in your schedule.Foreign currency exchange ratesIf you are entitled to be compensated for atransaction that was made in a foreign currency, wewill pay you in Australian dollars using the exchangerate that applied at the time of your transaction. Ifyou are unable to provide us with evidence of theapplicable exchange rate (for example, using creditcard or bank statements), we will apply an exchangerate recommended by our financial advisors. Detailsof this exchange rate will be provided to you whenpayment is made.Choosing theinsurance you needWhen you buy this travel policy, you must selecteither a Single Policy or a Family Policy.A Single Policy, covers only the person named asthe insured on your schedule, and up to one child orgrandchild who accompanies them on the journey.A Family Policy, covers the person(s) named as theinsured on your schedule, and their husband, wife orde-facto partner, and their children or grandchildrenwho accompany them on the journey.Additionally, you must also select the region thatwill cover the countries you are visiting on yourjourney.The following list explains where you are coveredwithin each region.4

Region 1. Worldwide. Region 2. Worldwide, excluding cover for USA,Canada, Japan and Africa. Region 3. East Asia: covering Borneo, BruneiDarussalam, Burma, Cambodia, China, HongKong, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar,Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Tibet,Vietnam and including Region 4 and 5 countries. Region 4. South Pacific: covering Cook Islands,East Timor, Fiji, Indonesia (including Bali), Nauru,New Caledonia, New Zealand, Norfolk Island,Papua New Guinea, Samoa (American), SolomonIslands, Tahiti, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Vanuatu,Western Samoa and including Region 5. Region 5. Australia: covering Australia (includingLord Howe Island, Thursday Island, ChristmasIsland, Cocos (Keeling) Islands & Coral SeaIslands Territory) only.Note: the cover provided under Section 2 - Overseasmedical and dental expenses, does not apply if‘Region 5’ is shown on your schedule. If you arecruising in Australian waters on a ship with on-boardmedical and/or dental facilities and require coverunder Section 2, then please select Region 4.If you have selected Region 1, 2, 3 or 4, we will alsocover any journey you make to any country orcountries outside your selected Region, but only fora 72 hour period commencing from your arrival intothe first country outside your selected Region.The policy type and region you select is shown onyour schedule.The amount you payfor this insuranceThe amount we charge you for this insurance policyis the total amount of the premium that we calculateto cover the risk plus GST (if applicable) and anyother relevant government charges (such as stampduty). These amounts add up to the total amountyou must pay.Once the policy is issued your premium and anyrelevant government charges are shown on yourschedule.If you change your policy in any way you may beentitled to a premium refund or be required to payan additional amount.5

We consider a number of factors in calculating yourpremium. For further details of the factors whichimpact your premium, please refer to our SecureTMTravel Insurance Premium, Excess and Claims Guideavailable at www.vero.com.au/PED. A copy of theSecureTM Travel Insurance Premium, Excess andClaims Guide is also available on request, at nocharge, if you contact Vero on 1800 285 712.Our contract with youThe contractIn the contract between you and us: we agree to provide you with the insurance youselect and which is shown in your schedule, andin return, you agree to pay us: your premium, GST, and any other relevant government charges.These amounts add up to the amount payable,which is shown in your schedule.You must pay this total amount when you take outyour policy.Your insurance only starts when you pay this totalamount. If you have not paid, you have noinsurance.Terms and conditions of the contractAll the terms and conditions of the insurancecontract are set out in: this PDS, and the schedule.These terms and conditions apply if you have tomake a claim — so it is important that you: read this PDS and the schedule carefully, check that your details on the schedule arecorrect and up to date, keep proof of ownership and receipts for itemsyou take on the journey or obtain during thejourney (it is best to keep these documentsseparate from the items they relate to), and keep the PDS and schedule together in a safeplace.6

About authorised representatives and distributorsIf an authorised representative or distributor of oursarranges this policy: they will be acting with the authority of Vero andbe our authorised representative or distributor,not your agent, in all matters concerning thisinsurance, they will receive a commission, and neither the authorised representative ordistributor nor any of its related companiesguarantees the benefits payable under thecontract.When cover isprovidedYou can claim as described under the “What you arecovered for” column of each Section, up to theamount specified in the “How much you are coveredfor” column, if: the event that gives rise to the claim occursduring the period of insurance, and with the exception of Section 1, the event thatgives rise to the claim occurs while travelling inthe region specified in your schedule, and with the exception of Section 1, the event thatgives rise to the claim occurs while you are onyour journey, and the claim is not excluded as described under the“What you are not covered for” column, and the claim is not excluded as described by theGeneral Exclusions listed on pages 48 to 50.You may also have to pay an excess for each claim.7

Pre-existing medicalconditionsDisclosure of medical conditionsWhen you apply for a policy you are required todisclose:1. the following medical conditions which you oryour travelling companion(s) have or ever had,even if you or your travelling companion(s) donot wish to be covered for them or no longerreceive treatment for them: heart (cardiac) condition; lung or respiratory condition (other than asthmaif it meets the criteria under the Tier 1 category –see below); kidney (renal) condition; reduced immunity; dementia or documented memory problems; and metastatic (secondary) cancer.2. any pre-existing medical condition(s) (defined onpage 58 of the PDS) suffered by you or yourtravelling companion and that you wish to becovered for – apart from conditions that meet thecriteria under the Tier 1 category (see below)which are automatically covered for noadditional premium.We will endorse your policy to specify eachcondition that we agree to cover. Cover for thecondition(s) will only apply after you pay anyadditional premium that we require.In each case, you will need to complete anAssessment Form (available by contacting Vero on1800 285 712) before we agree to issue a policy.Depending on the condition(s), we may decline orlimit cover, or agree to provide cover for anadditional premium.Pre-existing medical condition exclusionThis policy excludes claims arising from pre-existingmedical conditions (defined on page 58 of the PDS)you or other people have, unless: the condition meets the criteria under the Tier 1category (see below), where it is automaticallycovered; or8

the condition has been disclosed to us, and wehave endorsed your policy to cover the conditionand you have paid any additional premium thatwe require.Tier 1. Pre-existing medical conditionsYou do not need to disclose the followingpre-existing medical conditions, which areautomatically covered for no additional premiumwhere you or your travelling companion meet thespecified criteria:Asthma — if the person is under 60 years of ageand there has not been any exacerbation requiringtreatment by a medical practitioner in the last12 months.Breast Cancer/Prostate Cancer — if the person wasdiagnosed over 12 months ago, has not had anychemotherapy or radiotherapy in the last 12 months,the cancer has not spread beyond the breast orprostate at any time, and your journey is less than 6months. In respect of Prostate Cancer the personmust also have a P.S.A. of 3.0 or less.Cataracts/Glaucoma — if the person has no ongoingcomplications, is not on a waiting list for eye surgeryand has not had eye surgery in the last 30 days.Coeliac Disease — if the condition has not requiredtreatment by a medical practitioner in the last6 months.Diabetes/Glucose Intolerance — if the person wasdiagnosed over 12 months ago and has not had anycomplications in the last 12 months. The personmust also have a Blood Sugar Level readingbetween 4 and 10 and also be under 50 years of age.Ear Grommets — with no current infection.Epilepsy — if there are no underlying medicalconditions (e.g. previous head trauma, stroke) andthe person has not required treatment by a medicalpractitioner for a seizure in the last 2 years.Gastric Reflux — if the condition does not relate toanother underlying diagnosis (e.g. Hernia/Gastric Ulcer).Gout — if the gout has remained stable for the last 6months.Hay Fever (Allergic Rhinitis) — if the condition hasnot required treatment by a medical practitioner inthe last 6 months and the person has no knownrespiratory conditions e.g. Asthma.Hiatus Hernia — if no hernia surgery is planned.9

Hip / Knee Replacement — if performed more than6 months ago and less than 10 years ago.Hypercholesterolemia (High Cholesterol) — if theperson has no known heart conditions.Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) — if the personhas no known heart conditions and the currentBlood Pressure reading is lower than 165/95.Menopause — provided the person does not sufferfrom Osteoporosis.Peptic Ulcer — if the condition has remained stablefor the last 6 months.Underactive Thyroid — if not as a result of a tumour.24-hour emergencymedical and travelassistanceAll insured persons have access to our emergencymedical and travel assistance team. This experiencedteam work around the clock assisting our customerswhen they are in need of help. The majority ofrequests for assistance are for customers requiring: Medical treatmentOur team of doctors, nurses and case managerscan assist in helping you to find medical facilitiesand monitor your medical care. Payment of hospital billsOnce your claim is approved we will pay yourhospital bills directly to the hospital wherepossible. Evacuation or repatriationWe can assist with and co-ordinate an evacuationor repatriation where we determine it isappropriate. Assistance when passports, travel documents orcredit cards are lost or stolen.If you need assistance in contacting the issuer ofthe document, we can help. Assistance with rescheduling travel arrangementsas a result of an emergencyWhere relevant all services are subject to a claimbeing accepted under the policy.10

This assistance is provided by International SOS onour behalf.To obtain emergency assistanceShould you require emergency medical or travelassistance you can contact our emergencyassistance team on the number below. When youcall please advise us of your: policy number, and contact phone numberPlease call an international operator and request thatthey call Australia reverse charges on:Phone: 61 (2) 8987 1625Free extension of theperiod of insuranceIf we agree that you are unable to return to yourhome in Australia within the period of insurance,and that inability arises from a claimable event thatoccurred under Section 1, 2, 3, 5 or 6 of this PDS, wewill extend the period of insurance to allow you tocomplete your journey by the next available andconvenient means of transportation. The maximumduration we will extend the period of insurance is 6months from the date of expiry shown on yourschedule.11

Section 1 – Cancelledtravel and accommodationexpensesWhat you are covered for:How much youBenefits of this Section.This Section has 3 sub-sections.Benefit LimitsSingle Policy1.1 We will pay your cancelledtravel and accommodationexpenses if:(a) these expenses are incurreddue to any unforeseencircumstances outside yourcontrol, and(b) you have already paid theexpenses you are claimingfor, andyou cannot recover these(c) expenses from anyone else,and(d) these expenses are incurredduring the period ofinsurance, and(e) you have not alreadyundertaken that part of thejourney you are claiming for,andwe have not already paid a(f) claim under Section 3 thatarises from the same event.12Unlimitedreasonableexpenses.
