Nursing is defined,especially as it relates to promotion and restoration of health. Roles of the nurse are explored.Professional nursing is examined from historical and contemporary perspectives, including thephilosophy and theoretical foundations that define professional nursing practice. Students willexamine personal, professional and cultural values as influences upon nursing practice. Compare various pathways to nursing education.2. Analyze nursing theories or philosophies that have influenced nursing education andpractice.3. Identify verbal communications for application in healthcare settings.4. Examine the primary development phases of nursing informatics as a specialty area innursing.5. Demonstrate Internet and library knowledge of database research by writing a nursingtheory paper using (2) online library databases.Completion of outcomes will be measured using a rubric. Students must earn at least 70% oneach assignment, discussion, or quiz to complete the course.TEACHING METHODSThis course is a web-based course taught online through Blackboard using learning modules.These modules are outlined in the course calendar in this syllabus and in Blackboard. Theteacher‟s role includes facilitating the student‟s learning and serving as a resource person toguide the student in the learning process. Other teaching strategies include online assignments,online discussion boards, a scholarly paper, and quizzes.STUDENT PARTICIPATIONParticipation Policy:The student is expected to participate in weekly online discussions by making initialpostings with responses to other classmates as assigned.Students are responsible for beginning their participation on the FIRST CLASS DAY bylogging on and completing assignments according to the COURSE CALENDAR. Failureto submit online assignments between the first day of classes and the “university censusdate” (according to the university schedule) will result in an ADMINISTRATIVE DROPfrom the course.Discussion Board Standards:Please see the Discussion rubric in this syllabus.

Drop/withdraw forms missing any of the required information will not be accepted by theRegistrar‟s Office for processing.
