The RotaryReviewDistrict 6880October 2019

From the Desk of DG SkipCan you believe it is October? We are 4 months into the clubyear, and I am amazed at the projects and fund raisers that are being executed across the district. YOU are AMAZING!I would like to share a few words about our District Grantawards for this year.We had 25 clubs make application for a grant and we were ableto fund each one. This is up from the 14 applicants we had last year. Forthe PEs reading this, the District Grant is funded from your contributions in preceding years. This is YOUR MONEY coming back to YOU!More about this at Mid-Year (Jan. 10-11, Fairhope). Requests rangedfrom a “Buddy Bench” to a Disaster Preparedness Van. Grant amountsranged from 1,000.00 to 8,500.00, nearly 80,000.00!This is a testimony to the clubs in the district as they sought out needs around their community and found a way to meet that need. Meeting the needs of the community through Service iswhat brought me to Rotary, and I believe it is what will define your Rotary experience as well. Itis what we do for others that sets us apart as both individuals and as an organization. How is yourclub meeting the challenge of “Service above Self”?Speaking of clubs, Rotary International has openly addressed one of the more soberingtopics: membership. While we continue attract new members, we also continue to lose and equalor greater number. The new membership model is being worked in our District by the Membership Chair and committee, but more must be done. As you have heard me say, it’s about retention, not accessions.I am asking that each club hold a club assembly in the next month (November) anddiscuss their own membership issues and brainstorm to see what activities or actions theycan take to help stem the tide of Rotarians leaving the club. Every club in the district facesthis issue and I believe solutions to this problem can be found within the clubs.Zambia Water Project Update: On October 6, 2019 the first district sponsored water wellwas dug and is now fully operational. The link here shows the impact this well will have on thisvillage and school in Wachema, AACemItzP5aF0KUU4qNKBe1da?dl 0I want to say thank you to each member and club that has provided financial assistance tothe District to make this dream a reality. We have approximately 4,000.00 in the account for asecond well but are 4500.00 short.Elsewhere, you will read of our efforts in the Beauregard community of Lee County withtornado relief and the ongoing efforts along the Gulf Coast to assist in the hurricane cleanup efforts.Looking forward to hearing from you .DG Skip

With the help of each Rotarian, Our District’s goal for The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund is certainly obtainable.Rotarians around the world give generously to their Foundation to accomplish a wide range of educational, cultural, and humanitarian programs. These gifts ensure that dreams of a better life become reality for thousands ofdeserving people throughout the world. The cornerstone of The Rotary Foundation is the Annual Programs Fund.Without the continuing annual commitments from Rotarians, there would beno Ambassadorial Scholars, no Youth Exchanges, no Matching Grants, no 3H Grants. The Annual Programs Fund allows the Foundation to support apredictable level of recurring programming.Contributions to the Annual Programs Fund through the Every Rotarian,Every Year (EREY) initiative are the primary source of funding for Foundation programs, which cover more than 160 countries and geographical areason seven continentsAll contributions to the Annual Programs Fund are spent wisely on qualityRotary projects. Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) is a reminder to ALLRotarians to contribute at least 100 every yearPlease be part of this very important initiative.Yours in RotaryBruce McNealDistrict 6880Annual Funds Chair
