North Carolina Paralegal Association, Inc. Spring 2008President’sMessageChairman’sMessageKaye H. Summers, CLA, NCCPBeverly G. King, NCCPWear A New HatGreetings!!!As we approach our 2008 Annual Meeting andSeminar, I try to find a few minutes in the flurryof activity to reflect on the past year and whatserving as President of NCPA has meant to me. Ithas been a very busy year for me and at times, verychallenging. Even so, I have enjoyed every minuteof it. I welcomed the challenge to “wear a new hat” and proceededwith the goal to be the best leader that I could be. Every memberof the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, as wellas each Committee Chair and Co-Chair has worked very hardto accomplish NCPA’s goals for the year. I attended the NALAAnnual Meeting in New Orleans in July and met some incredibleparalegals from all over the country. I witnessed first hand howmuch respect paralegal organizations from other states have forNCPA. We are really held in high regard, which makes me reallyproud to be a member, as well as President. Our lives are all extremely busy and we often feel we cannottake on another task or “wear a new hat”. We are involved inso much these days that sometimes it seems difficult to stay inany type of “normal routine”. I’m still trying to figure out what“normal” means. Our profession is very challenging, yet rewarding, andwe have made great strides over the past few years to gain therecognition that we deserve. NCPA has been committed to notonly maintaining, but continually improving recognition forparalegals throughout the State of North Carolina.I challenge each and every one of you to “wear a new hat”this year and become involved in your organization, NCPA. Thereare many opportunities available; some that require less time, but are just as fun and rewarding.I look forward to seeing you at our annual meeting inConcord, and seeing what new hat you choose to wear.Wow - another NCPA year has come and gone. Aswe embark on another year in NCPA, I am excitedto see where 2008-2009 will take us - personallyand professionally.A little update on me. I will be starting a newadventure at the beginning of March. My supervising attorneyand I are splitting from our current firm and opening anotheroffice with just the two of us. Most of the time I will be working ata remote office in Mooresville, while he is working in Charlotte. Iam excited, but a little nervous at the same time. So many thingsleft to do and so little time to get it accomplished. I was in asmall office before joining Rallings & Tissue, PLLC, and it workedwell then. At least this time, unlike our previous split in Augustof 2006, this one is amicable and I think that the six of us that areleft at Rallings & Tissue, PLLC will remain in touch. All in all Ithink it will be good for all of us in the long run.I am looking forward to a wonderful year of educationalopportunities and networking within NCPA. Our educationalcommittee continues to amaze me by putting together suchwonderful seminars. I have had the opportunity to organize afew seminars, and trust me it is a lot of work. These ladies putin countless hours organizing and preparing to make sure theseminars run smoothly as possible. Yes, there are usually somebumps in the road but they handle them with such professionalismand skill that those in attendance never seem to notice.I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone whohas attended an NCPA event. Whether it was Annual, Mid-Year,or a District Meet and Greet, thank you for taking the time out ofyour schedule to be apart of one or more of these events. I hopeyou found them as exciting and educational as I have and we allhope to see you again real soon.Take care and best wishes to all.Kaye H. Summers, CLA, NCCPPresident2
