Admissions RequirementsFreshmanIf you have graduated or will graduate from an accredited or approved high school andhave not earned college credits after graduation, you may fulfill the following admissionrequirements to be admitted to UNLV. (Note: All freshman must submit official compositeACT or SAT scores and official transcripts.)1. Have a weighted 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in the following high school academiccore units: English, Mathematics, Social Science, and Natural Science. OR2. A combined score from the SAT Critical Reading and Math sections of at least 1120(new version--March 2016 and later) or 1040 (old version) OR3. An ACT composite score of at least 22 OR4. A Nevada Advanced High School DiplomaTransferIf you have earned college credits after graduating from high school, you will be considered atransfer student and must fulfill the following requirements to be admitted to UNLV:1. Have earned at least a 2.5 GPA in transferable credits. OR2. Have earned an AA, AB, or AS from an NSHE 2-year institution.*Transfer students with fewer than 24 transferable credits should be prepared to submit highschool credentials to meet the freshman admission requirements.InternationalIf you require an F-1 student visa to study in the United States, review admissionrequirements and complete the international application for undergraduate admission atunlv.edu/admissions/international.Returning StudentsIf you have attended UNLV in the past as a degree-seeking student, and have had a breakin enrollment longer than 2 consecutive semesters (not including summer), you will beconsidered a returning student. SUBMIT YOUR TRANSCRIPTS- You must submit official transcripts from your high schooland all colleges/universities you have attended. Official transcripts must be either mailed oremailed from the issuing institution to the Office of Admissions. High school transcripts arenot required for transfer students with 24 or more earned transferable credits.SUBMIT YOUR ACT AND/OR SAT SCORES Submission of official ACT and/or SAT scoresis required for admission for incoming freshmen. Test scores must be either sent directly fromthe testing agency to the Office of Admission or listed on your official high school transcript.After You Apply for AdmissionCHECK YOUR APPLICATION STATUS Check your application status and view anyincomplete items on your MyUNLV “To Do List” in the Student Center. Academic AdvisingThe University of Nevada, Las Vegas supports 11 academic advising centers. Eachof the academic advising centers is housed in a college so that students who enroll inparticular majors are able to meet with academic advisors who are knowledgeable aboutevery major in the college. There are four methods of obtaining academic advising: 1)face-to-face appointments, 2) telephone appointments, 3) online academic advising,and 4) group academic advising. Please contact the academic advising center of yourmajor to determine which of the four methods are available in your advising center.UNLV also has a Pre-Professional Advising Center that advises on the processesto apply to schools for Medical, Dental, PA, PT, OT, Pharmacy, Optometry, andVeterinary Medicine, as well as the UNLV/CSN Transfer Office for CSN students whoare preparing to transfer to UNLV upon graduation from CSN.By far, the preferred method of academic advising is experiencing face-to-faceappointments. Seventy-seven percent of UNLV students desire to meet in personwith an advising professional to discuss degree plans, course rotations, and timelygraduation. At this point, the average wait time to meet with an academic advisorduring the high traffic seasons is two weeks.Because academic advisors are interested in the success of every student at UNLV,it is important to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor in the intendedmajor as soon as possible. Regardless of your major, there is an academic advisingcenter housed in each college at UNLV.Specifically, academic advising offers a supportive environment for accomplishing thefollowing: Reviewing four & five year graduation Finding answers to your questionsplansabout your major(s) and minor(s) Accessing degree audit records Seeking information that will keepyou connected with the campus Connecting with faculty in yourcommunitydepartment Understanding policies regarding your Customizing a course schedule basedadmission statuson a balance in your academic andpersonal life Assisting with access to your midsemester grades so academic Connecting with an advocate for yourintervention may be possiblesuccess Collaborating with your academic Providing registration adviceadvisor to establish a graduation goal Learning about referrals to appropriate Enhancing your career developmentservices and opportunities for yourknowledge and skillsinvolvementThe primary goal of academic advising is to meet with students on a one-on-onebasis to discuss personal and professional goals and to develop a plan for meetingthem.
