UNIFIED PLANNING WITHORDER STREAMINGOrder Streaming technology makes Manhattan ActiveWM the only solution to continuously plan, learn and replan every task and resource simultaneously across retail, wholesale and direct fulfillment workflows. As soon as ordersarrive, they are streamed individually or sorted into wave-likecollections depending on the urgency, type of fulfillmentand customer needs. Rather than flood the floor with workall at once, Order Streaming technology ensures the rightresource with sufficient capacity is quickly identified, soorders get to the dock ahead of the carrier cut-off timesand promised service commitments. To maximize trailerutilization, Order Streaming continuously adds applicablenew orders to open shipments right up until transportdeparture.Order Streaming technology leverages machine learningdeveloped by Manhattan’s data sciences team to greatlyenhance the order orchestration logic. To complete a pieceof work in a given timeframe, Order Streaming considersreal-time insight into the capacity of both man and machine,as well as inventory availability and location. Although rushorders are dropped first, Order Streaming learns over time, creating better awareness of system capacity available tofulfill orders that might not need to be shipped for a fewdays. Consequently, both equipment and people can bemore fully utilized.8Work Release — the part of Order Streaming technology thatplans the fulfillment process — leverages optimization andmachine learning to drive the highest asset utilization possible. As it monitors utilization, it determines when to release thenext bit of work to keep those assets highly utilized, avoidingthe need to manage peaks and valleys in labor productivity.Work Release helps Order Streaming constantly listen forchanging resource capacity so it can determine the next setof picks or replenishments. Using techniques adopted fromtransportation management for route optimization, WorkRelease intelligently considers the layout of the distributioncenter to build tasks that minimize travel.Order Streaming creates an entirely dynamic orderfulfillment model, beyond the confines of wave or wave-less.It reconsiders the impact of demand and the capabilityto supply continuously, improving every aspect of labor, equipment planning, proactive location assignmentand replenishment. Benefits include better utilizationof automation, more efficient manual sortation, higherlabor utilization, more flexibility in order grouping andprioritization, and, ultimately, a more scalable warehouseat a lower capital expense. Order Streaming takes everyopportunity to consolidate picks, intelligently increasepicking density and minimize travel time between picks.

Order Streaming can even delay final task construction andassignment, including travel/pick paths, until the work is readyto be assigned. It can now also take advantage of advancedtask optimization and scheduling and unified picking, whichincludes the ability to build hybrid picking carts for significantimprovements in picking efficiency. Order Streaming isunleashed to fulfill its true potential, driving up utilization, reducing order cycle times and ensuring on-time deliverieswithout costly shipment upgrades.Manhattan Active WM plans and assigns tasks to usersin a completely new way, using insight from machinelearning within Labor Management to predict how longeach task will take. By evaluating historic data, ManhattanActive WM learns to make smarter decisions by applyingcurrent conditions to the historic data, so more accuratepredictions are made. Manhattan Active WM evaluateseach associate’s performance and aligns that associate toavailable tasks based on eligibility, roles, priority and otherfactors. A holistic schedule is created and consistentlyevaluated to adjust assignments and minimize “deadhead”travel distance across every task in the entire warehouse.Tasks are now interleaved to drive even more efficiency.Picks, replenishments, cycle counts and slotting movesare executed seamlessly together within the boundariesof worker and equipment eligibility and configurableconstraints. Intelligent task construction and optimized taskassignments mean a significant reduction in wasted travel inthe distribution center.Cubing — the process for packing outbound shippingcontainers — has been infused with intelligence beyond thesimple cubing algorithms utilized in most legacy warehousemanagement systems. Cubing is now natively optimized tominimize either the total number of containers or the totalvolume in order to decrease shipping costs.Manhattan Active WM also seamlessly manages crossdocking and flow through distribution opportunities, eitherat time of receipt or ahead of receipt. By matching inboundinventory with existing orders, it streamlines the movementof goods from the inbound trailer to the outbound trailer, minimizing touches and processing time.A new era of warehouse management gives your team thepower to:– Orchestrate work across both man and machine, maximizingutilization and increasing capacity– Execute the most efficient picking paths possible– Drastically reduce unnecessary travel across all tasks– Continuously optimize and prioritize workflow, reducingcycle times and shipping upgrades– Combine picks regardless of pick type or order type, significantly increasing efficiency– Enhance inventory management, increasing fulfillmentaccuracy– Streamline receiving and shipping for cross-docking andexpediting back-ordered products– Engage floor personnel digitally and directly, leveragingreal-time performance visibility– Increase inventory turn volume and velocity, boostingcustomer and financial performance– Adjust behavior of execution workflows, using data-drivenrules and workflow overrides9

UNIFIED EXECUTIONManhattan Active WM has been re-engineered from theground up to eliminate the execution barriers of legacydistribution systems. From moving trailers in the yard toreceiving goods and shipping, the system orchestrateswork seamlessly and simultaneously across both man andmachine. Labor management and warehouse managementcapabilities are now unified in a single app to engagethe workforce and ensure they are operating in the mostefficient manner possible. This unification means morevisibility and control for supervisors, as well as real-timecommunication and performance feedback embeddeddirectly into the operations tools used by the associate.Extended device training for new and temporary users isa thing of the past, as all transactions in Manhattan ActiveWM have a common, intuitive user interface that employsdesign and execution patterns supported by the phonesand apps that users are already familiar with. Transactionsare executed on configurable, highly intuitive and interactiveworkflows with instinctive step-by-step flows, easy-tounderstand prompts, and the ability to display configurabletraining messages, item pictures and actions to take. Usersdo not have to remember or memorize task steps, and alltransactions are configurable to provide significant flexibilityfor personalization. Transactions can now define datadriven workflow overrides such as determining whetherhigher value inventory should undergo a greater degreeof validation compared to lower value goods, allowing agreater level of personalization than ever before.10It all starts in the yard. Trailers, arriving blind or based onpre-scheduled appointments may be checked in at theguard shack. Flows have been simplified to streamline thecheck-in process and guide drivers to a yard slot or dockdoor for pickup or unloading. Yard-jockey tasks gain morecontrol over movement of trailers within the yard as thesystem intelligently and adroitly moves the right trailers tothe inbound docks for unloading and receipt and emptytrailers to the outbound docks for loading. The inbound processes of receiving, putaway, sorting,license-plate-number (LPN) disposition and generalinventory management can be tailored for environmentsthat desire to move in eaches, full cases, pallets or anycombination thereof. Whether tracking lots, country oforigin, date of manufacture, expiration date or otherkey attributes, Manhattan Active WM has you covered.Traditional receipt to stock, lower touch flow-throughdistribution, or even cross-docking for maximum efficiency— it’s all supported. You can also choose how much orhow little of each to use. Everything is built with an eye forflexibility and personalization.

The outbound process has also been completely reimaginedto unlock unprecedented efficiency on the floor. Picking isno longer limited by pick type, order type or the processesthat follow downstream. Picks are organized around priorityand precisely sequenced to minimize travel. Retail orders, ecommerce orders and store replenishments can be pickedtogether, if desired, and placed within a new picking cartthat now accepts full LPNs, picks to an outbound LPN andpicks to tote, simultaneously. Picks can now be chainedtogether to minimize the distance and travel time betweenlocations. Outbound sortation automatically (or manually)directs inventory to the optimal area for packing, usingthe intuitive graphical pack station options. Based onconfigurable rules, outbound putaway intelligently directscompleted LPNs to the correct pickup or drop location, ordirectly to a consolidation area on the outbound dock whereitems can then be loaded onto the right truck.Designed to address the unique challenges that retailersface in the world of digital commerce, Manhattan ActiveWM pack station, returns processing and parcel integrationcapabilities increase efficiency and improve service. Our pack station interface provides fully configurablescreens that lead packing personnel through tasks usinglarge, easy-to-use touchscreens that include product imagesand robust exception handling. Pack station capabilitiesincrease efficiency and accuracy while decreasing ramp-uptime for new and temporary employees during peak periods. While processing returns can be a time-consuming task, atopline opportunity also exists in returning merchandiseto sellable condition as quickly as possible. That is whyManhattan’s modern returns processing interface supportsmultiple initiation workflows and rapid inventory dispositionto drive faster inventory recovery and more rapid customercredits.Parcel integration is simple with our robust integrationframework for third-party parcel connectivity, so your teamcan rate, ship and track parcel packages with absolutelyno rate and carrier-label maintenance. Parcel integration iscompatible with leading carriers such as UPS, FedEx, USPSand regional carriers, as well as most international carriers.11

UNIFIED CONTROLTo be most effective, supervisors need access to detailedreal-time data visualizations with the ability to take actionon that information in a single tool in the office or on thefloor. Unified Distribution Control delivers a visually pleasingexperience that starts with a network-wide summary ofperformance across all distribution nodes and hubs in theorganizational supply chain. Key metrics are displayed forthe entire supply chain or for selected facilities. The nextlevel down is a facility-level console that displays overallinbound status based on advanced ship notice (ASN) dataand outbound status based on orders. The console alsodisplays all users logged into every department and thestatus of their current performance compared to goals.Performance for each department is available, where theuser can drill down into key equipment metrics such asutilization, performance and dwell time. When appropriate, notifications alert users to exception areas such as outboundorders that may be at risk because a carrier cutoff time isdrawing near.12To investigate further, a supervisor can get a closer look on akey department showing lower than expected performance.A simple tap on the console reveals a departmental viewwith details on what the issue may be, all the way down tothe underlying tasks. With another quick tap, holding orreleasing a task or reassigning a task to a different user iseasy to accomplish. Similar capabilities are provided forinventory and orders. Additionally, a supervisor may need toview employee timelines or log an observation or interactionwith a team member, which is easily done within UnifiedDistribution Control. Should a supervisor need to find aparticular employee, a digital twin of the warehouse in mapform provides not only visibility into where all resourcesare, but also the ability to interact directly via the map withelements su
