NETS AND CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK PORTFOLIO CHARTName:Program:Adviser:Permanent Email:David RobertsonEdS in Instructional TechnologyDr. Danilo Baylendrobertson777@aol.comNETS-TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP STANDARDS (hot-linked for your convenience)Instructions: For each standard indicator below, name and hyperlink to an artifact that demonstrates performance of the standard; listthe course in which (or due to which) the standard was completed; list the semester of the course; include a brief reflection explaininghow the standard was met and its impact on your growth; list the conceptual framework descriptor that best aligns with the artifact andstandard; and write a brief reflection explaining how the conceptual framework descriptor fits. (The conceptual framework descriptorsare listed at the bottom of the page).TL-I. Technology Operations and ConceptsEducational technology leaders demonstrate an advanced understanding oftechnology operations and concepts. Educational technology leaders:Performance Indicatora. Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and understandingof concepts related to technology (as described in theISTE NETS for Teachers 2000).COE Conceptual FrameworkIndicatorKnowledgeable: The candidate shouldbe able to demonstrate generalknowledge inherent in a liberal artscurriculum, advanced knowledge incontent areas, and specific knowledgein professional education for theimplementation of transformationalsystemic change.Reflective: The candidate should beable to demonstrate critical thinkingskills in the diagnosis and prescriptionfor transformational systemic change.Artifacts and ReflectionsArtifact: Course Electronic PortfolioCourse: MEDT 7462: Internet ToolsSemester: Summer / 2011NETS Reflection: This artifact required new skills, newsoftware, and new tools to complete. I completed the followingCamtasia video tutorials: Video 1: Organizing Files and FoldersVideo 2: Using Cute PDF

Video 3: Creating a webpage in NVUVideo 4: Uploading files to the web server (usingWinSCP)I also watched the optional video: Modifying a picturefor faster downloads (again)I downloaded the following required software onto myWindows 7 PC: Cute PDFNVU for WindowsWinSCPI am blessed to have two monitors at my workstation so it waseasy to have the Camtasia tutorial on one screen and NVUand WinSCP on the other to follow along the step-by-stepinstructions to complete this module’s assignments. I had a lotof fun learning how to customize a basic but functional NVUweb site for my course portfolio. The value to me of this module is to experience first-hand howto teach students to prepare an electronic portfolio. Whether itis using a web site as in this module, or a wiki, or aPowerPoint in conjunction with a Dropbox or SugarSyncaccount to preserve their files in the cloud long-term, this is asuper skill that every student can benefit from.Conceptual Framework Reflection: This artifact meets theKnowledgeable and Reflective COE indicators because itshows how I can rapidly learn new technology (NVU, WinSCP,etc.) and build web-based course portfolio with personalreflections on each assignment of the entire course. In thelarger scheme of education, providing skills such as the abilityto produce an electronic portfolio is transformational in natureto students and creates positive systemic change.b. Demonstrate continual growth in technologyknowledge and skills to stay abreast of current andemerging technologies.Leading: The candidate should be ableto demonstrate effective leadershipskills to initiate and facilitatetransformational systemic change.Artifact: Assignment 3.10 – Using Adobe ConnectCourse: MEDT 7462 – Internet Tools, Resources, and Issues

Collaborative: The candidate should beable to develop skills to work effectivelywith various stakeholders involved inthe educational process that will bringabout transformational systemicchange.Semester: Summer / 2011NETS Reflection: Using directions provided by Dr. Bray, I usedAdobe Connect to participate in a synchronous audio/videoconferencing session. My first online experience with AdobeConnect was a positive one! What fun to see and interact withthose whose posts I have been reading all semester. This typeof hybrid experience of meeting "face-to-face" in a virtualmeeting room harnesses some powerful technology tofacilitate communication, relationships, business goals, and/oreducational outcomes. Students, for example, who are socialcreatures by nature, tend to enjoy this type of out-of-the-boxcommunication tool. Once an Adobe Connect host gets thehang of it, I'm certain online meetings involving several peoplefrom various locations can enjoy productive meetings. Thechat feature, ability to raise hands, etc., and a place formeeting agendas, notes, and other presentation materials - allin one screen - makes for a potentially exciting and productiveexperience.Conceptual Framework Reflection: The Leadership indicatorwas most pronounced as I took the new skills I learned in thisclass and exported them to my job. There I was now equippedto bring strong leadership to a Collaborative environmentinvolving webinars (which I took initiative to host) and wikis(which I created) to form an online weekly staff webinareffectively eliminating the need for face-to-face staff meetings.TL-II. Planning and Designing Learning Environments and ExperiencesEducational technology leaders plan, design, and model effective learning environments andmultiple experiences supported by technology.Educational technology leaders:Performance Indicatora. Design developmentally appropriate learningopportunities that apply technology-enhancedinstructional strategies to support the diverse needs oflearners.COE Conceptual FrameworkIndicatorAdaptive: The candidate should beable to demonstrate flexibility andstrategic planning appropriate to a widevariety of learners for effectiveArtifacts and ReflectionsArtifact: Distance Education Instructional Design PlanCourse: MEDT 7472 – Introduction to Distance Education

transformational systemic change.Semester: Spring / 2011Reflective: The candidate should beable to demonstrate critical thinkingskills in the diagnosis and prescriptionfor transformational systemic change.NETS Reflection: Creating my own learning module inCourseDen – additional supporting artifacts include: Learning Module SyllabusInstructor Narrated BioWhat a thoroughly interesting assignment this turned out to be.I had never planned – in advance – a web-based experienceinstructional design down to every detail including everyworking link. This project provided me with hands-on designpractice where I could be coached by my professor andcritiqued by my peers. To meet the rubric, I found myself having to learn new tools asI went along like Jing, Impactica, and narrated PowerPoint.Beyond the technology, I used real-world teacher skills likewriting objectives, lessons plans, and developed six modulesworth of lessons complete with quizzes, discussion boardquestions, and additional resources. I even was able toexperiment with providing (fictitious) students with a mutlioption final project menu from which to choose from. Thisassignment was a high water mark for me in my online skillsdevelopment.Conceptual Framework Reflection: This artifact challenged meto use the Adaptive COE indicator as I built my first learningmodule and adapted it to a fictions online academy. Myultimate goal includes launching a virtual educationalcommunity in my own organization and adapt what I havelearned here at UWG to bring about truly transformationalsystemic change.b. Apply current research on teaching and learning withtechnology when planning learning environments andexperiences.Adaptive: The candidate should beable to demonstrate flexibility andstrategic planning appropriate to a widevariety of learners for effectivetransformational systemic change.Artifact: Google DocsCourse: MEDT 7462 – Internet Tools, Resources, and IssuesSemester: Summer / 2011

NETS Reflection: Google has become the global superpowerthat is has because their creative team has brought complexprogramming and coding capabilities once reserved for aneclectic minority within a finger’s reach of billions of ordinaryend users. The small pockets of humanity that don’tunderstand the words “Coca-Cola” and “Google” are becomingas scarce as fresh water in the Sahara desert. The revolutionary ease of using Google Web 2.0 tools likeGoogle Forms is astonishing. In one sitting, a “newbie” cancreate a handsome and productive survey, quiz, or form thatautomatically pours its results into a utilitarian spreadsheetthat can actually be interpreted by a grocery store clerk.Click File New in any Google Doc and a new world opens upwith instant access to Web 2.0 tools like: Documents Presentations Spreadsheets Forms Drawings TemplatesCustomization tools allow online collaborators to add HTMLcode with the touch of an icon. Hyperlinks are a point-and-clickaway to bring the entire resources of the Internet to yourdocument: (example) My UWG (University of West Georgia).Google Docs: So much more; so much fun!Conceptual Framework Reflection: I definitely have learnedthe value of being flexible and Adaptive. I took what I learnedin this exercise and created a new system of collecting datathrough Google Forms, and posting and sharing documentsonline in my organization. This exercise led to transformationalsystemic change.c. Identify and locate technology resources andevaluate them for accuracy and suitability.Reflective: The candidate should beable to demonstrate critical thinkingskills in the diagnosis and prescriptionfor transformational systemic change.Artifact: The Big Three QuestionsCourse: MEDT 8463 – Issues in Instructional Technology

Semester: Spring / 2011thNETS Reflection: This artifact called for an APA 6 editionformatting and styling paper to be written addressing threequestions every media specialist needs to consider whendiffusing innovation:1. What does this technology really do?2. What specific and necessary problem will this piece oftechnology solve?3. What cheaper/better/easier technology already existsto solve your problem and in what way is the proposedinnovation an improvement over other options or theexisting way of doing things? My proposed technology to run through the grid of thisframework was an online storage service called Dropbox. Inthis paper I made my case that this innovation was not onlyjustifiable to diffuse, but a preferred method given students orteachers can obtain 2 gigabytes of free space through theservice for online storage.Conceptual Framework Reflection: The COE indicator ofReflective applies to this project because transformationalsystemic change continues to the present with this technologyI introduced to my organization. I use Dropbox to my personal, professional, and education advantage. I have shared it withothers in these three categories and it is weaning them fromthe portable USB thumb drive and allowing people to enjoyuntethered connection to their data. Once I invested the timeto figure out how the web synchronizing technology worked, Iwas able to leverage it to my benefit. I then proceeded tobecome an evangelist for the product and now earned over 7gigabytes of bonus storage space from referral rewards.d. Plan for the management of technology resourceswithin the context of learning activities.Reflective: The candidate should beable to demonstrate critical thinkingskills in the diagnosis and prescriptionfor transformational systemic change.Culturally Sensitive: The candidateshould be able to develop awarenessArtifact: Technology-Connected Lesson PlanCourse: MEDT 7462 – Internet Tools, Resources, and IssuesSemester: Summer / 2011

and understanding of individual andgroup differences when diagnosing andprescribing transformational systemicchange.NETS Reflection: Using a template supplied by Dr. Bray, Iwrote my first technology-connected lesson plan. Since I am adisabled graduate student, I made certain my scenarioincluded special needs students that requiredaccommodations. In this exercise I wrote objectives, curricular connections toQCC/IEP standards, assessment criteria, technology andmaterials required, related URLs, and procedures.Conceptual Framework Reflection: This artifact helped me beProactive in researching and locating free options for onlinestorage and syncing capability for stakeholders to use where amonthly fee to use a similar service would be cost prohibitive. This assignment also shows that I can be Reflective because Iam able to demonstrate critical thinking skills in my researchand apply what I’ve learned toward removing barriers.e. Plan strategies to manage student learning in atechnology-enhanced environment.Inquisitive: The candidate should seekcontinually to improve their knowledge, disposition, and skills to influencetransformational systemic change.Collaborative: The candidate should beable to develop skills to work effectivelywith various stakeholders involved inthe educational process that will bringabout transformational systemicchange.Artifact: Henry County Cooperative Online course ReviewProject – Review of: thLuella Middle School 7 Grade Science ClassthLuella Middle School 8 Grade Business TechnologyClassCourse: MEDT 7472 – Introduction to Distance EducationSemester: Spring / 2011NETS Reflection: It’s hard to overstate the importance of thisproject in my personal development as an instructionaltechnology specialist. Dr. Jason Huett assembled a masterfulcollection of assignments that stretched his students so muchso that we couldn’t help but grow, adapt, and learn innovativenew ways to create and collaborate. I felt my contribution inthis assignment, which is more accurately described asmultiple assignments, was significant in that I was having adirect positive impact on helping two actual teachers at LuellaMiddle School improve their online classes. I had never usedwikis or Voicethread technology prior to this assignment, and itblasted open an entire new world of outside the classroom

innovations for me personally. Time will tell but I feel this isone of the most important projects in one of the most importantclasses learning from one of the finest teachers I have everstudied under.Conceptual Framework Reflection: This challenging projectforced me to be Inquisitive and highly Collaborative. I was ontwo teams that performed remote reviews in the context of awiki environment plus e-learning modules of Luella MiddleSchool in Henry County. The assignment required that weexplore everything the two online instructors proposed to teachtheir students in a virtual environment. The collaboration levelin the Henry County Project represents one of the richestexperiences in online collaboration I have had to date in myacademic career.f. Identify and apply instructional design principlesassociated with the development of technologyresources.Empathetic: The candidate should beable to develop the sensitivity forindividual, family, and institutionalneeds that will embracetransformational systemic change.Artifact: Internet Tool PresentationCourse: MEDT 7462 – Internet Tools, Resources, and IssuesSemester: Summer / 2011Reflective: The candidate should beable to demonstrate critical thinkingskills in the diagnosis and prescriptionfor transformational systemic change.NETS Reflection: Thus far in my degree program I havelearned the value of Jing or Camtasia tutorials that myprofessors have kindly provided. Whether they are assigned oroptional, I made a practice of watching them because of theirincredible capacity to help students learn by observationinvolving multiple senses. In the same way, I wanted to learnhow to create for my future students a Camtasia tutorialintroducing a new innovation that is equally utilitarian –Voicethread. This project required me to hone my skill atlearning the nuances of video recording and editing as well asuploaded a PowerPoint presentation to Voicethread andrecord narrations for viewers to have an interactive learningexperience.Conceptual Framework Reflection: This artifact demonstratedthat I can be Empathetic to others as I am engaging ininstructional design. I learned how valuable and useful videotutorials can be for students during the Henry County Project. The Reflective COE indicator was apparent for me in this

project in that I became sensitive to the fact that somestudents need a variety of ways to interpret course objectivesand fully understand the rubric for grading. Video tutorials helpbring directions into sharper focus and I determined that Iwould carry that forward in my own teaching style.TL-III. Teaching, Learning, and the CurriculumEducational technology leaders model, design, and disseminate plans that include methods andstrategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Educational technology leaders:Performance Indicatora. Facilitate technology-enhanced experiences thataddress content standards and student technologystandards.COE Conceptual FrameworkIndicatorKnowledgeable: The candidate shouldbe able to demonstrate generalknowledge inherent in a liberal artscurriculum, advanced knowledge incontent areas, and specific knowledgein professional education for theimplementation of transformationalsystemic change.Collaborative: The candidate should beable to develop skills to work effectivelywith various stakeholders involved inthe educational process that will bringabout transformational systemicchange.Artifacts and ReflectionsArtifact: Henry County Cooperative Online course ReviewProject – Standards-based review in Excel including: Individual ReviewGroup ReviewCourse: MEDT 7472 – Introduction to Distance EducationSemester: Spring / 2011NETS Reflection: The Individual Review Excel spreadsheet isone of two assignments that I completed for this project.Using standards created by iNACOL, I used the Angel loginsystem to access Jason Watts’ Business Technology onlinecourse. I examined his course content, instructional design, ststudent assessments, technology use, and 21 century skills. Ithen awarded a numeric rating on 0-4 scale with 4 being thehighest. I had to justify in writing any score 2 or less. I thensummarized course strengths and student interactionthopportunities. I performed a similar evaluation for a 7 gradeScience class at Luella Middle School – all remotely throughAngel. The second supplemental artifact in this reflectionshows our Group Review which we collaborated extensivelyon and submitted for grading.

Conceptual Framework Reflection: Knowledgeable andCollaborative were COE indicators that were prevalent in thisartifact. This was my first exposure to the fairly exhaustivestandards policy that online course in Georgia must undergo. Iexpanded my knowledge base and gained an entirely newperspective of how online courses in general are constructed. This exercise also required me to be on two teams of threepersons to form group reviews, average our combined scores, and generate a group review as well as an individual review.b. Use technology to support learner-centeredstrategies that address the diverse needs of students.Leading: The candidate should be ableto demonstrate effective leadershipskills to initiate and facilitatetransformational systemic change.Collaborative: The candidate should beable to develop skills to work effectivelywith various stakeholders involved inthe educational process that will bringabout transformational systemicchange.Artifact: Stakeholders InterviewCourse: MEDT 8461 – Diffusion of InnovationsSemester: Summer / 2011NETS Reflection: This collaborative project consisted ofcreating a Voicethread questionnaire for the stakeholders inmy organization to respond to the technology integration that Ihave been primarily responsible for rolling out. I polled thesehigh level leaders on: General technology integration issuesOur new cloud-based contact management Softwareas a Service (SaaS)Our use of multiple wikis from Wikispaces.comOur online webinars using Cisco’s WebExOur web based curriculum (video & MP3 formats)Our integration with Android and iPhone/iPad OSHow this relates to public schoolThe interview process, the format, and the responses allhelped me to better understand student-centered learningstrategies and how we can leverage technology enterprisewise to meet the diverse needs of stakeholders.Conceptual Framework Reflection: This exercise required meto use my Leadership skills and organize a Collaborative (andinnovative) online poll using Voicethread. This was a verysuccessful learning assignment and my professor rewarded

me for it.c. Apply technology to demonstrate students' higherorder skills and creativity.Leading: The candidate should be ableto demonstrate effective leadershipskills to initiate and facilitatetransformational systemic change.Proactive: The candidate should beable to advocate for the removal ofbarriers that impede lifelong learningand hinder transformational systemicchange.Artifact: Hands-On Technology ProjectCourse: MEDT 8461 – Diffusion of InnovationsSemester: Summer / 2011NETS Reflection: This project was well received by myclassmates because I designed it to help them prepare fortheir exit electronic portfolio. I produced a narrated PowerPointwalking students through the MIT EdS Program Resource Wikiwhich provides all the necessary information to fulfill ourgraduation requirement of building an electronic portfoliodisplaying our work. I produced an 8:53 Camtasia tutorial ofmy own electronic portfolio that I am systematically andincrementally building using a wiki under the My UWG externalresources link to Wikispaces. This was a helpful exercise forme to complete in that it confirmed the importance of startingto compile my own exit portfolio from my very first semester. This ease at which I am able to locate appropriate artifactsfrom my electronic portfolio wiki to complete this midpointassessment is proof that having an organized system ofinstant information access is vitally important.Conceptual Framework Reflection: I employed the Leadingand Proactive COE indicators in this artifact. First, I cast visionto my fellow graduate students at UWG to start now preparingtheir exit electronic portfolio. Using my own exit portfolio wikias an example, I became an advocate for using a wiki toproduce a simple yet effective presentation of their entiredegree materials.d. Manage student learning activities in a technologyenhanced environment.Leading: The candidate should be ableto demonstrate effective leadershipskills to initiate and facilitatetransformational systemic change.Knowledgeable: The candidate shouldbe able to demonstrate generalknowledge inherent in a liberal artsArtifact: Video Walkthrough of Henry County Online CourseReviews including: thLuella Middle School 7 Grade Science ClassthLuella Middle School 8 Grade Business TechnologyClass

curriculum, advanced knowledge incontent areas, and specific knowledgein professional education for theimplementation of transformationalsystemic change.Course: MEDT 7472 – Introduction to Distance EducationSemester: Spring / 2011NETS Reflection: This artifact provides narrated video reviewsththof a 7 Grade Science class and an 8 Grade BusinessTechnology class at Luella Middle School. I purposely choseto use Jing from Techsmith (makers of Camtasia) to produce ashort but helpful visual summary of the courses because Iwanted to experiment with using a free, less sophisticatedvideo capture product than Camtasia. I feel this experimentwas successful in that it provided experience with a freeproduct that also has tremendous screen capture capabilities. Ikeep Jing up in memory on my Windows 7 PC and have usedthe product countless time for effortless screen capture. Iobserved that Jason Watts, the teacher of the BusinessTechnology class, also used Jing to produce 5 minute (or less)training videos for his students. Providing exposure to studentsand faculty of low or no cost web tools is part of my corephilosophy as an emerging media specialist.Conceptual Framework Reflection: In this exercise, I used theLeading and Knowledgeable indicators. I was the unofficial“team leader” on both review teams in the Henry CountyProject. I used my Voicethread account, I created templatesfor the PowerPoint, I researched supplemental resources andlinks that I posted on our collaborative wiki, and I was first toturn in my assignments and offered to help my team matescomplete their assignments. I gained so much knowledge inthe Henry County Project that definitely has the potential toeffect transformational systemic change at some opportunity inmy future.e. Use current research and district/state/nationalcontent and technology standards to build lessons andunits of instruction.Inquisitive: The candidate should seekcontinually to improve their knowledge, disposition, and skills to influencetransformational systemic change.Artifact: Impact on Student Learning AssessmentCourse: MEDT 8480 – Program EvaluationSemester: Spring / 2012NETS Reflection: This assessment assignment displays a richunderstanding of how to use standards to build lessons and

units of instruction. The Impact on Student Learningassessment showcases the Journey Discipleship Program, and carefully engineered and innovative teaching system. It isa new wineskin, so to speak, invented to deliver content to anynumber of adults in a web-based context. Using audio, video,an interactive web site, password protection, and mobilecomputing integration technologies, the Journey is a modernmarvel in the world of Christian education. The assessmentdescribes in great detail (with table after table of live hyperlinksto artifacts stored on a UWG server) the methodology andimpact to student learning of the faith-based teaching program.Conceptual Framework Reflection: Systemic change is theoperative phrase in this assignment. Being inquisitive, asking alot of the right questions to a large number of peoplecontinually over time yielded better results with eachsuccessive iteration of the program. I have not been afraid toask the hard questions as to whether or not the program wasworking. It is this core value to be inquisitive that, to my view, guarantees that the Journey Discipleship Program willcontinue to improve with age.TL-IV. Assessment and EvaluationEducational technology leaders communicate research on the use of technology to implementeffective assessment and evaluation strategies. Educational technology leaders:Performance Indicatora. Apply technology in assessing student learning ofsubject matter using a variety of assessmenttechniques.COE Conceptual FrameworkIndicatorKnowledgeable: The candidate shouldbe able to demonstrate generalknowledge inherent in a liberal artscurriculum, advanced knowledge incontent areas, and specific knowledgein professional education for theimplementation of transformationalsystemic change.Artifacts and ReflectionsArtifact: Constructing a quiz. Develop Quiz QuestionsQuizlet.comCourse: MEDT 7472 – Introduction to Distance EducationSemester: Spring / 2011NETS Reflection: Every teacher should have skills and

practical experience putting together quizzes and tests toassess student learning. Dr. Huett created a graded exerciseto hone out skills in this foundational tool. The “Develop QuizQuestions” link above demonstrates my ability to constructtrue/false and multiple choice questions.A classmate introduced me to a wonderful web site that helpseducators create extremely utilitarian quizzes, flashcards, andpractice exams on www.quizlet.com. The free Web 2.0 quizsite offers a simple and effective resource to create shareablequizzes quickly with a low learning curve. I have since createdseveral flashcards sets and learned how to train others intaking practice tests from the material. This web site is a greataddition to any teacher’s toolbox. Finally, I successfully built a quiz in CourseDen whiledeveloping my own learning module. Although not nearly aseasy as quizlet.com, the CourseDen version seamlesslyintegrates with the learning management system making it theobvious choice for educators who use the Blackboard Vistaproduct.Conceptual Framework Reflection: The conceptual frameworkdescriptor Knowledgeable immediately comes to mindregarding this artifact. I learned not just how to put a quiztogether for assessment purposes but how to put together aneffective quiz. Further, a fellow classmate told me aboutquizlet.com which brought transformation systemic change tome personally!b. Use technology resources to collect and analyzedata, interpret results, and communicate findings toimprove instructional practice and maximize studentlearning.Leading: The candidate should be ableto demonstrate effective leadershipskills to initiate and facilitatetransformational systemic change.Adaptive: The candidate should beable to demonstrate flexibility andstrategic planning appropriate to a widevariety of learners for effectivetransformational systemic change.Artifact: Assignment 3.16 – Google FormsCourse: MEDT 7462 – Internet Tools, Resources, and IssuesSemester: Summer / 2011NETS Reflection: Google has invested tens of millions ofresearch and development dollars to bring real-world Web 2.0tools to billions of people at no cost. One of the most usefultools that I encountered in this class that changed the way Iuse technology is Google Forms. This exercise introduced me

to the backstory of Google Forms and the variety of ways that Ican collect and report data. While the class exercise was a fun exercise in collaboratingwith fellow classmates on building the perfect ice creamsundae, the after effects of this exercise have been farreaching. I have integrated Google Forms into the datacollection protocol for the organization of which I am a seniorleader and it has provide an efficient new way to collect datathat literally made the old system defunct and obsolete.Conceptual Framework Reflection: Leading and Ad

NETS-TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP STANDARDS (hot-linked for your convenience) Instructions: For each standard indicator below, name and hyperlink to an artifact that demonstrates performance of the standard; list . of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE NETS for Teachers 2000).
