Part 1—Education, Qualification, and Currency SystemIntroductionThe Interagency Aviation Training (IAT) Education, Qualification, and Currency System(https://www.iat.gov/) contains established aviation training standards and records for naturalresource and firefighting employees within the Department of the Interior (DOI), USDepartment of Agriculture's Forest Service (USDA-FS), and recognized partners. TheInteragency Aviation Training Subcommittee (IATS), Executive Aviation Committee (EAC) andthe Executive Aviation Subcommittee (EAS), in conjunction with its partners, provides nationalleadership to establish and disseminate interagency aviation training standards for naturalresource agency personnel in support of safe, effective, and efficient use of aviation resources.Aviation training is the primary, proactive method of improving efficiency and safety throughincreased employee awareness of agency policy, procedures, and safe practices. The IATsystem is managed by the Office of the Secretary's Office of Aviation Services (OAS) and is forall DOI, USDA-FS, and recognized partners, which may include contractors, states, and otherfederal agencies.The objectives of this system are: Establish minimum training, skills, knowledge, and currency requirements for agencypersonnel who work with aircraft, or have aviation duties, including managers andsupervisors, to accomplish fire and resource (non-fire) missions. Provide a forum for interagency coordination in the development and implementation ofaviation education, training, and qualification standards. Recommend standards and guidelines for aviation training in relation to theInteragency Aviation Training (IAT) Education, Qualification, and Currency System.
