REGISTERED NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAMSas of October 30, 2019The Board of Nursing regulates nursing education programs in Ohio that prepare students for initial licensureas a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. The Board accomplishes this regulation by assuring that newand existing programs meet and maintain the requirements set forth in Chapter 4723-5 Ohio AdministrativeCode, as evidenced by the Board’s granting of its approval. This is a list of each nursing education programapproved by the Board and its current approval status. An explanation of each type of Board approval isprovided below.APPROVAL STATUSEXPLANATIONConditional ApprovalThe initial approval status granted to a newly established program that meets therequirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code. ConditionalApproval authorizes implementation of the program and is required prior to thefinal acceptance of a student into the program.Full ApprovalThe approval status granted by the Board to a program that meets and continuesto comply with the requirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code.A program with Conditional Approval must complete its first class of studentswho entered the program immediately after the Conditional Approval wasgranted in order for that program to be eligible for Full Approval status. Aprogram with existing Full Approval that has continued to meet and comply withthe requirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code or a program thatwas previously granted Provisional Approval is granted Full Approval if it hasbeen determined by the Board to meet and maintain the requirements of Chapter4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code.Provisional ApprovalThe approval status granted by the Board to a program that was previouslygranted Full Approval and that either failed to meet and maintain therequirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code, or did not meet theNCLEX pass rate benchmark required by Rule 4723-5-23, OAC. ProvisionalApproval is for a specified period of time if it results from a requirement(s) thatwas not met or maintained. A Program with Provisional Approval for LowNCLEX pass rates must meet the NCLEX pass rate benchmark for twoconsecutive years to be restored to Full Approval.10/20191
