PRACTICAL NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAMSas of January 13, 2021The Board of Nursing regulates nursing education programs in Ohio that prepare students forinitial licensure as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. The Board accomplishes thisregulation by assuring that new and existing programs meet and maintain the requirements setforth in Chapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code, as evidenced by the Board’s granting of itsapproval. This is a list of each nursing education program approved by the Board and itscurrent approval status. An explanation of each type of Board approval is provided below.APPROVAL STATUSEXPLANATIONConditional ApprovalThe initial approval status granted to a newly established program thatmeets the requirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code.Conditional Approval authorizes implementation of the program and isrequired prior to the final acceptance of a student into the program.Full ApprovalThe approval status granted by the Board to a program that meetsand continues to comply with the requirements of Chapter 4723-5Ohio Administrative Code. A program with Conditional Approval mustcomplete its first class of students who entered the programimmediately after the Conditional Approval was granted in order forthat program to be eligible for Full Approval status. A program withexisting Full Approval that has continued to meet and comply with therequirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code or aprogram that was previously granted Provisional Approval is grantedFull Approval if it has been determined by the Board to meet andmaintain the requirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio AdministrativeCode.Provisional ApprovalThe approval status granted by the Board to a program that waspreviously granted Full Approval and that either failed to meet andmaintain the requirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio AdministrativeCode, or did not meet the NCLEX pass rate benchmark required byRule 4723-5-23, OAC. Provisional Approval is for a specified periodof time if it results from a requirement(s) that was not met ormaintained. A Program with Provisional Approval for Low NCLEXpass rates must meet the NCLEX pass rate benchmark for twoconsecutive years to be restored to Full Approval.101/2021
