Please consider us your partner as you movethrough steps in the application process.Upon successful completion of the Nursing Program,the college will award the candidate an AssociateDegree in Nursing and recommend him/her as aneligible applicant for the National Council LicensureExamination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN).(Except for the Non-Degree option students.)GENERAL INFORMATIONPROGRAM OVERVIEWEnrollment in the San Joaquin Valley CollegeRN program is open to th ose individuals whomeet the entrance requirements, havecompleted the application process, and areselected for the program.NOTE: When applying for licensure to theState of California Board of RegisteredNursing, applicants are required to report anydisciplinary action against a professionallicense and/or misdemeanor or felonyconvictions; certain convictions may result indenial of licensure. Each case is consideredindividually by the BRN.The program is approved by the California Board ofRegistered Nursing (BRN). The complete curriculum isoffered in linear terms. There are several entryopportunities:TUITION AND FEESThe admissions advisor will provide currenttuition information. Included in tuition are labsupplies, library access, parking, membershipin campus-based student organizations, healthassessment, titers and immunizations [as applicable],drug testing, background check, liability insurance,school pin and graduation ceremony, licensureapplication and NCLEX fees.Option 1 - For LVN to RN BridgeThese LVN applicants have taken all their GE coursesfrom another college and are requesting transfercredit for these courses. These courses must havebeen completed by the time of application submission:Human Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Writing andComposition, Intermediate Algebra, Psychology,Sociology, Speech, a Humanities course and GeneralChemistry. Applicants chosen for this program willbegin at the RN 28 Health Promotion course.Not included in tuition are textbooks, uniforms, shoes,watch with second display, BLS certification,transportation, meals, child care, and housing.Option 2 - For the LVN to RN Program- with all prerequisite courses completed except HumanitiesThese applicants have completed all of their prerequisite GE courses with the exception of Humanitiesand may apply for admission. The curriculum beginswith the RN 28 Basic Concepts bridge course andTerm 3 & 4 Nursing courses. PHIL 1C Ethics coursemust be completed at SJVC to fulfill the Humanitiesrequirement for this option.CURRICULUM OVERVIEWThe General Education courses total 34 credit units. Inorder to progress from one term to the next, thestudent must meet all course requirements, includingearning a grade of C or better in each course. Aftercompleting all GE courses, the student may take thenursing courses in the RN Program which arepresented in consecutive, sequential terms. Theprerequisite courses and the RN courses total 71credit units. All these courses are required forlicensure. Humanities is an additional requirement ofSJVC in order for the Associate Degree to be awarded.The PHIL1C Ethics course fulfills this requirement.The Career Services Seminar is also required by SJVC.The RN 44 course fulfills the Career Services Seminarrequirement for Nursing students.Option 3 - For LVN to RN Non Degree (30 Unit Option)ProgramThese LVN applicants have taken Microbiology andPhysiology from another college and are requestingtransfer credit for these courses. These courses musthave been completed by the time of applicationsubmission. LVN Non-Degree applicants elect alimited curriculum as described below. In accordancewith Board of Registered Nursing Policy (section 1429)California Licensed Vocational Nurses may apply forthe 30-unit, non-degree certificate program, whichentitles the graduate to take the NCLEX Examination.Other states may not recognize the 30 unit option asan acceptable preparation for licensure. reliable childcare (if applicable), and an ability to bepunctual to assigned classes and clinical locations.ACCEPTANCEApplicants will be notified of acceptance or nonacceptance by mail or email.Clinical labs may be scheduled for day, evening,and/or weekend shifts. Anyconcerns regarding health status issues should beforwarded to the RN Program Director.CONSIDERATIONSThe demands of the nursing program are many. Moststudents find it difficult to carry the load of the nursingprogram and work more than part time. Clinicalscheduling, assignments, etc. cannot be altered dueto an individual’s outside employment.Personal life issues need to be in balance to besuccessful.
