REGISTERED NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAMSas of May 19, 2021The Board of Nursing regulates nursing education programs in Ohio that prepare students for initiallicensure as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. The Board accomplishes this regulation byassuring that new and existing programs meet and maintain the requirements set forth in Chapter 4723-5,Ohio Administrative Code, as evidenced by the Board’s granting of its approval. This is a list of eachnursing education program approved by the Board and its current approval status. An explanation of eachtype of Board approval is provided below.APPROVAL STATUSEXPLANATIONConditional ApprovalThe initial approval status granted to a newly established program that meetsthe requirements of Chapter 4723-5, Ohio Administrative Code. ConditionalApproval authorizes implementation of the program and is required prior tothe final acceptance of a student into the program.Full ApprovalThe approval status granted by the Board to a program that meets andcontinues to comply with the requirements of Chapter 4723-5, OhioAdministrative Code. A program with Conditional Approval must complete itsfirst class of students who entered the program immediately after theConditional Approval was granted in order for that program to be eligible forFull Approval status. A program with existing Full Approval that has continuedto meet and comply with the requirements of Chapter 4723-5, OhioAdministrative Code or a program that was previously granted ProvisionalApproval is granted Full Approval if it has been determined by the Board tomeet and maintain the requirements of Chapter 4723-5, Ohio AdministrativeCode.Provisional ApprovalThe approval status granted by the Board to a program that was previouslygranted Full Approval and that either failed to meet and maintain therequirements of Chapter 4723-5, Ohio Administrative Code, or did not meetthe NCLEX pass rate benchmark required by Rule 4723-5-23, OAC.Provisional Approval is for a specified period of time if it results from arequirement(s) that was not met or maintained. A Program with ProvisionalApproval for Low NCLEX pass rates must meet the NCLEX pass ratebenchmark for two consecutive years to be restored to Full Approval.05/2021
