WI DECA will follow this guideline forSCDC 2020!SBE ACADEMYThe format of the SBE Academy will be similar to last year where students will beable to opt into a session that will provide them with tips and tricks forpresenting a successful SBE. Students will be given time to make adjustments totheir presentation before they see a judge. The goal of the academy is to help students create a winning SBE presentation for ICDC.DRESS CODEAt the July 2019 WI DECA board meeting, the board voted on the following inUPDATEregards to the dress code at SCDC: DECA blazers/suit coats are not required for SCDC, this is not a change, justa reminder that this is not a requirement at SCDC, but DECA blazers AREREQUIRED for ICDC. WI DECA will not require females with a collared shirt to wear a scarf/ascot atSCDC. Males are still required to wear a necktie. Please note: Make sure yourfemale students attending ICDC know that the scarf/ascot IS REQUIRED forICDC.COMPETITIVENational DECA has released the 2019-20 competitive update changes and DRAFTEVENTTopics. TheseUPDATEchanges can also be found in the DECA Guide.PROJECTSWI DECA has received feedback from advisors that members would like to seeSCORED UNDER more feedback from project judges. The WI DECA Board has created a feedback70%form that each project judge will receive at SCDC and be asked to complete foreach project and will be returned to members. We hope the increase in feedbackwill be valuable to your students. If an approved service associate cancels or is unable to attend after SCDCregistration has closed, the chapter is responsible to fill the role of that ServiceAssociate with another student in their chapter. The chapter can also reach outto Terri Mackey to determine if any other chapters are able to fill that spot. ONLINE PROJECT SUBMISSIONProjects that require a manual will still be submitted in hard copy format per DECAguidelines. Projects (one copy in DECA Binder and two photocopies) must be postmarked(in the mail) to WI DECA by January 30, 2020.In addition, to submitting hard copies of the project, you will also need to submit DECA,Inc. projects online (You do NOT need to submit Wisconsin DECA Special Events: GoldStudent, Gold Chapter, Marketing Education and Training Event). Similar to last year, wewill be using software called Turn It In to check all projects for plagiarism. Turn It In willcompare projects submit this year to all projects submitted in the last 2 years as well asthe Internet. Any projected flagged for plagiarism will then by double checked by ChristieGrochowski. If there is still concern of plagiarism, Christie will recommend that the WIDECA Board review the project. If the board determines there is plagiarism, the project willnot be allowed to advance to SCDC and the students will not be allowed to attend SCDC.The chapter would then lose these spots to SCDC.For complete instructions on how to submit youronline project, click here!hereWe suggest advisors have students submit their online project. If you have a lot ofprojects, you could have all your students presenting a project meet at the same time soyou can help trouble shoot with them all at the same time. Advisors can upload projects, however, you will need to login as a student with the process listed in the step by stepinstructions.A few important notes we learned from last year:1. Do NOT include all the statement of assurances with the online project.2. SCANNED PDF documents are NOT accepted by Turn it In. The file must be saved as aPDF.3. A word document is the easiest way to submit a paper to Turn It in. Page numbers, formatting do NOT matter for this version as a judge will not see this copy! You must submit your project ONLINE by January 30th at 5pm.Failure to submit by the deadline may result in members not being able to present theirproject at SCDC. WI DECA will send many reminders about online submissions prior to thedeadline and will be flexible if any issues arise. However, please do not wait until the lastminute to submit your projects! The project you submit online will NOT be seen by a judge and they will NOT be sharedwith other DECA advisors! At this time, WI DECA will use online project submissions3onlyto check for plagiarism.
