For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has satimmobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the masterof mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a millionworlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is arotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the DarkAge of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperiumfor whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day so that hemay never truly die.Yet in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternalvigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infestedmiasma of the warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomicon, the psychic manifestationof the Emperor’s will. Vast armies give battle in his nameon uncounted worlds, but for all their multitudes, they arebarely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants, and worse. To be a man in such times is be one amongst untoldbillions. It is to live in the cruellest and most bloody regimeimaginable. Yet you are not just any individual—you are aHeretic, a follower of forbidden gods and dangerousschools of thought, cast out by the rulers of theImperium and their cursed corpse-god for the calling youhave chosen. And yet both glory and revenge can be yoursas you tread the path to greatness and take your place amongthe champions of the Dark Gods themselves!Pre-Generated CharactersThe following sample characters have been specificallydesigned for the Broken Chains preview adventure thatbegins on page 16 of this booklet. Four different charactersare provided, although this adventure can accommodatelarger player groups by adding additional Chosen orRenegade characters. What is Black Crusade?Black Crusade is a roleplaying game in whichyou take on the role of a renegade from theImperium—a follower of dark godsor master of forbidden powers. In your thirst for power, revenge, or carnage youhave chosen to walk thepath to glory, beseechingthe Powers of Chaos fortheir favour so that you mightrise up above those around you andbecome one of their favoured few. Itis however, a path that is fraught withperil, and for every mortal that rises highenough to bask in the light of the godsa million more die screaming, their fleshtwisted and their minds broken by the cruelmalevolence and pitiless indifference of thevery powers they hoped to consort with. The gods and their fickle ways are farfrom the only dangers a Heretic mustcontend with, and as outcasts from theImperium, much of humanity countsitself as your foe. The Inquisition isespecially relentless in its hunt forHeretics across the Imperium’s3Broken ChainsIt is the 41stMillenniumcountless worlds and beyond, and as long as a Heretic drawsbreath he will never be free of these most hated agents of theGod-Emperor. Despite these perils, for those who can survivelong enough, glory and power awaits and the chance to livefree from the shadow of the Imperium.

Instead, he genuinely believes in theresearch he performed, and regrets his exile. Now he wishes toescape to perfect his designs, believing that should he succeed,he can convince his fellow Tech-Priests that he was right allalong. Bore is a friendly and helpful individual, especially for aTech-Priest. However, his idea of helping often involves potential“improvements.” After all, the flesh of a daemon is superior tothat of a human, so once it’s grafted onto their skin.SKILLSAwareness (Per)Charm (Fel)Dodge (Ag)Forbidden Lore (Warp)Medicae (Int)Security (Int)Stealth (Ag)Tech-Use (Int) 30Playing Hephastius Bore32 2034 42 31 50 32 Integral armoured plating, luminen capacitor nodes, las-rifle (Bore doesnot begin play with his las-rifle, but does begin play with his armouredplating, and luminen capacitor nodes, as they are built into his body).TALENTS AND SPECIAL RULES
