FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORSomething for EveryoneImportance of a Strong, Flexible MembershipSomething for everyone – that’s our approach for best supportingour diverse membership. Whether it’s new physicians relocating fromelsewhere, established physicians looking for family-friendly events, physicians running small practices, or those employed by large organizationslooking to improve leadership skills, we strive to provide resources for all. When I meet member physicians, I ask “What benefitsdo you use and value the most?” Usually it’s social gatherings, educationaland entertaining dinner meetings, and most recently, the monthlymagazine. Last month, in fact, I received an email from long-time member,Dr. Catherine York about the magazine (see page 7).Unfortunately, I still hear many physicians don’t even know abouttheir LCMS membership- although the reason isn’t clear. New to the area?Employer paid dues? Communication breakdown? Conversely, others knowabout membership, but jokingly ask, “Isn’t that just the Golf Tournament?”Obviously, we have more work to do to get the word out.Certainly, there are many benefits to membership, but one veryimportant one is CAMARADERIE. There’s a mutual understanding thatothers are dealing with many of the same challenges you are challengesnon-physicians can’t truly comprehend. You may even notice a few new programs and resources. At different pointsin your personal or professional life, these benefitscan be enjoyable, helpful – maybe even necessary. WeWILL move forward, meet challenges head on, andstand together as a strong, unified membership. Notonly will physician membersbe supported, but communitymembers as well.AdvocacyStrong membershipallows a unified voiceon important issuesat local and statelevelsWebsitewww.lcmedsociety.comwPhysician and PatientResourceswPay Dues OnlinewRegister for EventswCOVID-19 ResourceswAccess to memberdatabase (w/ loginfrom LCMS)PublicationsProvider WellnessProgram8 FREE visits per member per yearConfidential Counseling: flexibleappointment times, telehealth availability,no insurance billed, no EMR createdCoaching: helps physicians assessobstacles and possibilities, while guidingtoward desired outcomesMindfulness Training: 8-weekprogram of mindfulness-basedstress reduction for physiciansand “Lunch & Learn”for office staffGroups& ProgramswWomen Physicians GroupwPrivate Member FB GroupNEW!!!wPeer Mentorship ProgramwPractice Manager GroupwDiversity, Equity, andInclusion GroupEventsMedical Matters: A genuineand informative read for medicaland business professionals alike.Learn more about the impact LaneCounty physicians and localorganizations are making inour community.Directory: Published annually, listing members by group, specialty, and photosectionswAnnual MeetingwEducational ProgramswMonthly SocialswAnnual Golf TournamentwVineyard EventwFamily Eventswand more!FinancialDiscountswOregon Pacific BankwFavorite HealthcareStaffingEducationwFinancial HealthwPPP Loan GuidancewLiability IssueswCMEwand more!CommunityConnectionsWe work to build meaningfulconnections with localorganizations such as:wCommunity Supported ShelterswFOOD for Lane CountywPositive Community KitchenwBags of LovewShelterCarewand more!

The content was very contemporary and topical.I appreciated the articles taking on the tough and timely topics of theCOVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism. I loved the juxtapositionof the articles featuring both a primary care physician and a specialist.I enjoyed the patient advocacy expressed in the article about patient/visitor experience during COVID-19. The advertisements wereapplicable to me as a physician, and even the Advertiser Spotlightfeaturing a wealth management company felt genuine. Finally, thephoto collage on the back cover including doctors from across thecommunity made me feel bonded to my medical colleagues.”– Catherine York, MD“I love your magazine and look forward to receiving every issue. Lovedyour September 2019 cover story, ‘Compassion in the ER.’ You areproviding a great value to your members! Medical Matters is one ofthe very best county medical society publications I receive. Since Ireceive over sixty similar group publications, I have standing when Isay that you deserve a gold star for excellence!”– Shirley, The Doctors Company“My favorite member benefit is the Directory with pictures, it’s niceputting a face to a name. I’ve always been a bit of a loner so being partof a professional organization that facilitates activities, such as gettingtogether to go see Wicked at the Hult, is a big plus for me.I’m still singing, ‘I’m so popular ’”– Lisandra Guzman, MD“I think it is important to learn about the breadth of professionaland personal experiences that exist in our robust medicalcommunity. Sometimes, the introductions of new physicians orphysician services to our community are presented in the magazineand that is the only route I hear about them.”– Chris Poulsen, MD“I now look forward to receiving the magazine monthly. It is soattractive with color and an excellent layout. The articles are timely, inform me of what is important in this medical community. I like toreward advertisers with my business given their support of mymedical community.”– Douglas Austin, MD“Whenever the LCMS Magazine arrives in the mail my wife and Ihave to argue over who reads it first. There are always articles that areof great interest and relate to both our community in general as wellas to physicians specifically.”– Paul Chavin, MD, retired memberSO FAR IN2020, WE.worked withour members andpractice offices tohelp respond to thepandemic: Surveyed practicesand visited to discussgoals moving forward Created a list ofCOVID-19 resources Applied for grants tohelp continue PWPservices.have started andrestarted a numberof groups andprograms: Practice ManagerGroup Outdoor Group Diversity, Equity, &Inclusion Group Mentorship Program.hosted multiplevirtual events: Partnered with theLC Dental Society fora presentation fromKernutt Stokes onPPP Loans Women PhysiciansGroup Meetings First PracticeManager Meeting.expanded ourmembership Over 30 newmembers so far thisyear with a goal of 80MEDICA L M ATTERS SEPTEMBER 2020 7
