PLC-5 MIGRATIONPROGRAM OVERVIEW
Program objectivesAfter more than 30 years of life, the Allen-Bradley PLC-5 control platform from Rockwell Automationwas discontinued in 2017 and is no longer available for sale. During its lifetime, Rockwell Automationcontinuously invested to make the platform available for a large and very diverse customer base in manydifferent applications.The PLC-5 Migration Program is an incentive to accelerate migrationsfrom the PLC-5 control platform to the ControlLogix platform. MigratingPLC-5 controllers to ControlLogix controllers is achieved by removingworking PLC-5 platform controllers and replacing them with theControlLogix platform. This program is not open to end-user customerswho may have department level system integration services. The goalof the PLC-5 Migration Program is to accelerate the migration of PLC-5systems to ControlLogix systems.Note: Throughout this document, PLC-5 control systems refers to BulletinNumbers 1785 and 1771. ControlLogix control systems refers to BulletinNumber 1756.The PLC-5 Migration Program is available to help address design,specification, conversion and installation of ControlLogix control systems to replace PLC-5 systems.The migration etools for hardware selection, code conversion and hardware conversion described in thePLC-5 Migration Profile, available at no charge.Rockwell Automation also offers an additional discount on the purchase of ControlLogix and the I/O wiringconversion equipment needed for the PLC-5 migration to ControlLogix.Purpose of the program guideThis program guide should be used as a “how-to” reference. Logistics and program rules One identifies the working PLC-5 equipment being removed from service in the end user’s application andthe new ControlLogix equipment to be installed in the end user’s application. (A local Rockwell Automationor authorized distributor sales person verifies the opportunity as being a migration from a working PLC-5platform to ControlLogix. The name and phone number of the Rockwell Automation or authorized AllenBradley distributor sales person must be documented in the notes section of the order.) One purchases new ControlLogix equipment and receives an additional PLC-5 Migration discount on theControlLogix (Bulletin 1756) equipment and Wiring Conversion System hardware (Bulletin 1492) at the timeof purchase. (The availability and application of additional PLC-5 Migration discount requires approval ofproject validity from Rockwell Automation sales or distributor sales.) The PLC-5 Migration discount is an additional discount of 15% off of their current agreement pricing.The discount applies to the agreement pricing on the ControlLogix (Bulletin 1756) and Wiring ConversionSystem hardware (Bulletin 1492) at the time of purchase and is requested via Special Price Requestand identified as “PLC-5MIG” in the Project Description field on the Additional Data tab. In the generaldescription field the agreement classification must be selected as “Marketing Program”. Notes should alsoconfirm who within Rockwell Automation sales or distributor sales has verified the migration opportunity.Contact your pricing manager with any questions regarding entering the SPA request. The use of“Marketing Program” in the agreement classification description and “PLC-5MIG” must be entered into theproject description. The PLC-5 migration discount is limited to PLC-5 conversions and is not applicable for maintenance,spares or expansion related purchases. One returns the working condition legacy PLC-5 equipment which was removed from the end userapplication via Return Material Authorization (RMA) as outlined in Appendix A. (The legacy PLC-5 returnsmust be in working condition as they are candidates for remanufacture and recertification.) PLC-5 productsreturned must be of the same class of product as new product replacement (i.e. controller for a controller.) Products traded-in must be in working condition. (Note: products that have been damaged or repaired arenot eligible for the incentives outlined in this guide.) One has 180 days from the date they receive the new ControlLogix product to request return authorizationand return the old PLC-5 hardware. (In locations in which return of legacy equipment is not permitted,verification of the decommissioning and destruction of the PLC-5 equipment by local Rockwell Automationsales may be considered in lieu of return. Requests for non-return decommissioning will be managed throughthe local sales office. Closure of these pre-approved requests requires photographic confirmation ofdestruction of decommissioned PLC-5 with reference to ControlLogix P.O.) Requests for extending the 180-day return period will be considered on a case by case basis. STEP 7Select Marketing Program.STEP 8In the customer request box: Indicate “PLC-5MIG” first. Enter the short term pricing agreement number. Enter the Trade-in catalog number with seriesand quantity.PLC-5MIG Then, enter the new product catalog number withseries and quantity. And finally, enter the invoice number of the newproduct.Take Note: For each Trade-in product or returningproduct listed on the request, the new product,quantity and invoice must be indicated in theCustomer Request box, line-by-line.STEP 9Enter the Trade-In (Returning) Product & Quantity.STEP 10 AWhat if Returning Product is Obsolete?In the customer request field: Enter the actual catalog number with series for theobsolete product. STEP 10 BEnter returning obsolete quantity.STEP 11Review and save the questionnaire.Review the questionnaire qualifications.As a reminder, under the PLC-5 Migration Programthe product cannot be damaged or repaired.Stop and Review: If the Distributor selects “yes” forquestion 4 or 5, then this product does not qualifyfor return under the PLC-5 Migration Programreturn.Now, click Save.STEP 12And then select, Back.PLC-5 Migration Program Overview 13
STEP 13Save the request.Select Save.Upon selecting save, the request number willappear.Note: The request is in “Created” status. During thistime, changes are not permitted to the request.Allow SAP at least 2 minutes before selecting edit.Now, click Edit.STEP 14Update the status.In the status field, update the status to Submittedfor Review.Click Save.Customer Care will review and act on the request.STEP 15If the request is approved by Customer Care, theReturn Material Authorization (RMA) along withthe questionnaire responses will be sent to thedistributor contact listed on the request.Key Points to Remember about returning product:1. RMA must accompany all product returns.2. The product must be returned to RA within45 business days to allow sufficient time forprocessing and before the RMA expires.3.
